The emergence fo Green.

you are still fighting this fight.

If he doesn't catch them, he doesn't get the attention. The productive part of the equation keeps them guessing.

That is what forces extra looks. His ability to get open and catch it.

As if that was indeed significant Coates would live on the other side of Antonio now, instead of being primarily ST's.
Have a nice evening slash

Thank you I did, and will again if the Steelers manage to win on the road.

You hate to be wrong, one would think you would be used to it by now.

:waving:

Nope just waiting to be proven wrong you now with actual facts and not speculation and feelings

Fact Sammie Coates isn't being played.

Fact which means your theory is wrong.

Fact you were just proven wrong.

Because he is hurt

According to you he can be in there and not even have to catch it. That would force the D's to adjust.

Nothing wrong with his legs, just his ability to catch.

So you have to be able to catch it for teams to give you those looks.

Because he is "hurt" doesn't fly with your earlier claims. That he can be effective even if he doesn't catch it.

You seem to change your stance on the fly and pass it off like you were right all along.

Reality is that isn't the case sport.

How do you know those weren't the reasons he was playing despite the injury to his fingers? I mean what other reason would you play a WR who has two broken fingers. Yes he can only go deep and hopefully he catches it. But it also keeps defenses honest. So if it wasn't having some type of affect why didn't we just sit him down totally. And before you say they have now maybe that has something to do with the emergence of green.. before that emergence Coates was still getting snaps because maybe he will still affecting the opposing defense

Yeah I can see some serious potential there, solid hands after the catch, some size to get the extra yard after the catch but I don't see anything superhuman YET. He lost concentration a couple times. Shake it off and find the crease and I'll sing at his wedding.

If he was keepng D'shonest he would still be in there. He doesn't have a new injury or a aggravated injury, otherwise he would be pulled from ST's.

As far as the emergence of Green it is a different position and has no bearing on Coates,

Coates ins't playing because he isn't producing which makes him ineffective at the position until he is healthy.

Which again blows your ridiculous theory that D's have to account for him right now.

That as almost as silly as your Tomlin assessments.

I give you credt, when I need a good laugh. I just listen to you theorize football.

Well it is early maybe he is the Grey Hulk right now,and will morph into the Green Hulk smash version with repetition.

So because they play different positions that means they don't make defenses account for them.. they played Coates because no one else on the team forced opposing defenses to play Brown without double and triple coverage. That's why Coates even with the injury Coates continued to play.. green has the same affect on defenses despite playing another position. When healthy Coates is a playmaker same as Green is becoming. Play makers get extra attention.. I think everytime Coates comes into the game opposing defenses are aware even with the busted fingers because they know he can run past most CBs

Sure they all have the ability to make a D account for them.

But your theory was Coates didn't have to catch anything to be a detriment.

Which again was easily proven wrong from his non participation.

Thank you be sure to play again.

Then why did he continue to play if the team knew he couldn't catch the ball..that he could only really catch deep balls..why did they not just let him sit... oh I know because he helped keep opposing defenses honest. His presence in the lineup was needed because no one else not Hamilton James Or Rogers after Bey got hurt provided that.

If he kept D's honest he would still be in there goof.

lulz

He was injured then injured now, nothing has changed.

IF your theory had any weight with Greens emergence you still keep him in there, because look out!

But so sarry no fortune cookie for you. Come back tomorrah Daniel-son.

Catcha this fly.

Just a point on Green. The guy is still only in his 3rd game. He is starting to break out because, he is starting to hit game shape. I think he is dropping the ball more due to getting used to game speed. He has the hand placement, and he's making very difficult catches in traffic. His drops will decrease with more playing time. Unlike Coates and Bryant, who drop the ball due to poorer hand placement.

Why would you keep him in there when all he can do is go deep. He isn't going to go deep Every play..Teams know that. He isn't going to play every down because he can't run all the routes because he can't catch all the passes. And even when teams know he still ran by two Colts defenders. Ben admitted he under threw him on both. In sundays game Ben was sacked on a play action pass, Coates was in and was probably the target on a deep pass.

According to you keeping him in there would support your theory.

So now it is Ben underthrew him on this, probably was going to throw to him on that.

Anything and everything but the truth of the matter.

He was pulled for being ineffective and wasn't causing D's to account for him.

See initially they were stubborn and wanted to see if he could be somehow someway effective.

But quickly showed no cigar.

Keep reaching for that fly, you aren't there yet.

Even when healthy he didn't play every down so you have no point. Bey's injury forced them to be stubborn because no one else scared defenses..so that's why he continued to play despite his injury. Because when in he forced defenses to pay attention to him.. greens emergence has helped in that regard. Agree to disagree.

nope simply not true, and proven not true. Not said by anyone in the world but you.( You have to go back before the injury for it to be true)

But yeah you take the not agree approach, that is your norm.

The issue keeping Sammie Coates from playing time on offense is a physical problem, but it’s one that offensive coordinator Todd Haley and the Steelers want Coates to solve mentally.

Coates has two broken fingers on his right hand, which is obviously an issue for a wide receiver trying to catch passes. He has tried to do so and been largely unsuccessful since first injuring his hand in a win over the Jets on Oct. 9. He has just one reception since then after catching 19 passes for 425 yards in the season’s first five games.

“It’s a big injury for a receiver,” Haley said Tuesday. “I’ve seen him out there on special teams making plays, but when you have a couple of broken fingers on your hand and you’re a pass-catcher it’s difficult. We’re just kinda trying to gauge each week. Mentally he’s doing well. Physically he’s doing well other than that, so we gotta just see how the confidence is going, because more than anything, that’s what gets you is confidence. Just trying to get him back to where he’s confident to go out there and make plays for us because we need him.”

What Haley is suggesting is that confidence could help Coates put mind over matter. Instead of waiting for the broken fingers to heal, the Steelers want Coates to learn how to catch the ball in spite of them.

“It’s focus and the mental toughness of blocking that out of your mind,” Haley said. “That you have something there that’s hard to block out when a ball is coming 50 miles an hour that you’re trying to catch. I think it’s just repetition and work like anything else. You have to catch your way back to confidence.”

The Steelers want that to happen quickly, because as long as Coates has been limited, the offense has not been operating at full capacity. Coates caught six passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in that win over the Jets. The Steelers were 4-1 at that point and averaging 27.8 points per game.

They proceeded to lose their next four games after Coates’ injury before beating the 0-11 Browns 24-9 on Sunday to break the streak. They are averaging 19.8 points per game in the five games since Coates was hurt.

With Coates not producing, the Steelers have received little production from the outside receiver position opposite Antonio Brown. Markus Wheaton was expected to get time at the position, but his shoulder landed him on injured reserve after he appeared in just two of the first 10 games and caught four passes for 51 yards. Darrius Heyward-Bey has missed the past two games with a foot sprain after catching five passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for a 60-yard touchdown on a reverse.

Cobi Hamilton, who was on the practice squad at the beginning of the season, has been starting in the place of those men. He has eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown, and he doesn’t have more than three receptions in a game this season.

Eli Rogers has been effective as a slot receiver (27 receptions, 300 yards, two touchdowns). Le’Veon Bell has been a weapon out of the backfield (53-415-1) and the Steelers’ tight ends have produced. However, not having much to draw attention from the No. 2 receiver spot has made Brown’s life difficult. He has 77 receptions for 907 yards and seven touchdowns, but he’s often facing double coverage.

“When guys not named AB aren’t making plays, it means he’s probably getting doubled,” Haley said. “He’s beat plenty of double teams. But there’s more opportunity that he’s going to get double covered. Le’Veon obviously making plays out of the backfield helps, but as I’ve been saying for a couple of months now, other guys need to make plays. When they do, things generally go well for us. We’re going to continue to press the importance of that to these, especially young guys.”

So please tell me the reason for Haley remarks on why they need Coates

I think Bell is an extraordinary runner in traffic but he lacks just a bit of strength to break that last tackle. You rarely see him break really big runs. He'll pick through a crowd with ridiculous regularity for 4 to 7 yards and you can't understand how he finds his way through there, but then when he hits the 2nd level it seems like the last guy always gets the ankle tackle.

Has Bell ever taken one to the house in the NFL? I can't seem to remember him ever breaking away for a long TD run.

they do need Coates.

Thing is he hasn't been effective and Haley is saying he needs to step up in more ways than one.

If anything the article is showing he wasn't effective that is why he was pulled.

Which again mr agree to disagree doesn't support your jibberish.

My wife keeps me around because according to her all i can do well is go deep...go figure, lol

The point that started this was why don't the steelers just sit him til completely healthy or IR him. And I said no because they have no one else to stretch he field. So even though he hasn't caught a pass he still helping some what..is it enough? No but it is something the coaches feel is important enough to to trot his his *** out there for those plays. Otherwise they could of just let Hamilton run those routes
