With Trades.
Steelers trade #25(720 value) overall to Donkeys for #31(600 value) and #94 (124 value). Elways uses that pick for Paxton Lynch QB Memphis.
Steelers trade #31(600 value) to '9ers for #37(530 value), #145(33 value) and 2017 4th(37 value). San Fran drafts QB Christian Hackenberg.
RD2(#37)- Jason Spriggs OT Indiana
I know but we have Villanueva. Well, he did play well but not great. We have Adams and Harris right now as the other OT's. Harris only got 675k in bonus. Not that you want to throw that money away but could. Adams is set to make 875k and could easily be cut. Spriggs is a perfect zone blocking LT with quick feet, long arms, and huge hands.
RD2(#58)- Justin Simmons S/DB Boston College
I know I see him falling in mocks to rounds 3, 4, 7. But that is not going to happen. I honestly believe if he falls to us in the second we got a helluva steal. Simmons is sneaky athletic, good burst, nice hops, loose hips, and is a read and react player. There's not a lot of wasted motion, doesn't bite on play action, he is a better tackler than given credit for.
RD3(#89)- Kendall Fuller CB Virginia Tech
Yes, we waited until round 3 to get our CB. But Fuller played a lot of zone in college, he has maybe the best hands at the position in the draft, and wouldn't be around in the 3rd if he wouldn't have hurt his knee. His tape last year looks bad but dude was playing with a torn meniscus. As a Sophomore he played with a broken hand. I think he's a steal here as long as the medical is cleared.
RD3(#94)- Jatavis Brown LB Akron
I pull the trigger on Brown maybe a little early. But here's my thought process. We lost Spence and Garvin in free agency. Timmons is going into the last year of his contract. Shazier is good but often injured. If you like this kid do you cross your fingers he's around in the late 4th? Just like Simmons I go get the guy I want. Brown is a smart kid who called the defensive plays at Akron, he is always chasing the ball (to a fault sometimes) loves contact, special teams demon (replace Garvin) and has some coverage ability. He seems like a guy you want on your team because he will raise the bar for the rest of the team.
RD4(#123)- Tyler Ervin RB San Jose State
Ervin just fits what Hailey has tried with Rainey and Archer. He's a little taller but about the same frame. Has some awesome production numbers and did return punts and kicks in college. With Bell being banged up every year having a guy to spell him or Williams might be advantageous. I could see Ervin being the #3 back on game day and playing on some third downs while being our primary punt and kick return man.
RD5(#145)- Dean Lowry DE Northwestern
Lowry has everything you look for except tyrannosaurus arms. He was very productive in the big ten against good competition and is a smart kid obviously going to Northwestern. I think he could be a nice rotational guy and give us some depth at DE.
RD6(#220)- Dadi Nicolas OLB Virginia Tech
To me Nicolas is a poor mans JPP. He needs to bulk up but he has a great burst and can get the edge on a tackle. I feel he could use some technique and weight training and perhaps could be our Harrison replacement in 2017.
RD7(#229)- Cody Kessler QB USC
Kessler reminds me of a poor mans Drew Brees. Very savvy in the pocket, goes thru his reads, moves his feet well, not a great arm but enough with his anticipation. I feel he would at least pressure Landry Jones and would not surprise me to beat him out.
RD7(246)- Jake Brendel OC UCLA
Thought about going DT but losing McLendon only lost 30% of our defensive snaps so I am hoping McCullers and some sub packages can fill that void. One void we continue to end up with is Pouncey on the IR. Brendel is a quick interior lineman who is a very good technician. He's undersized and that will scare off a lot of teams but in the zone blocking scheme he should be a nice addition and I feel would probably beat out Hubbard for a roster spot.
And remember I still have the 49ers 2017 4th round pick.
