She was appointed by a judge to defend the man. The prosecution screwed up when it discarded evidence. The guy went to jail after a plea bargain.

I take all this with a grain of salt. The "whistleblower" track record has not been great. As much as Trump and Comey go back and forth I still believe Comey swayed the election toward Trump vs Hillary with the whole last minute email scandal.
