The day I would have fired CMT.

For me the last straw would have been after the embarrassing home playoff loss to the ******* Blake Bortles led Jaguars.
Tomlin was looking ahead to the following week against the Pats but totally disregarded the upcoming opponent Jaguars.
He should have been shown the door then.
I could have gone also for the first time he said "we're not looking for style points.."

That was a real clue and harbinger. Basically, "I could care less if we never click on all cylinders as a team."

Who would want to regularly drive a car down a cylinder under load? We've been driving the equivalent for over the past decade with him at the helm.

I agree with you all he should have been fired years ago. I can't point to one particular moment, for me is just the "body of work" as he likes to say.

But where I take issue with your complaint is that I have never figured out why anyone listens to anything a coach says. Any coach. It's mostly bullshiit, just get them through the press conference with as few challenges as possible.

For me is the game he left his starting tackle and army vet stand alone on the field while the national anthem was played at of all places… Soldier Field!
Irony is wicked sometimes..
First time I was embarrassed to be a Steeler fan..

If Big Al wouldn't have come out of the tunnel I would have never watched another game. They would have been dead to me.

I mean it’s because he’s our coach. I don’t really listen to other coaches talk. So naturally we follow the team and listen to the press conferences. And because he’s been here so long we get quite sick and tired of him preaching his BS…..yet doing the total opposite on the field. The never live in our fears BS he spreads all the time, then ******* out in the offensive scheme, rarely blitzes aggressively in the D….i mean I could go on and on.

I don’t dislike CMT. I have posted interviews/podcasts where I am quite proud of the way he treats young men. I thought his best coaching season was when Ben went down and Rudy and the Duck took over. He’s a guy I’d love to shoot the **** with hoisting a couple beers.
As a coach he has gone stale. A long time ago. We need a breath of fresh air. For those that still advocate for him……it’s not like he hasn’t been given every opportunity to get us over this hump. It’s been years and years. And yes,I would love to eat these words watching him hoist a trophy.

I've been a fan since the '70s. I read the book "Three Bricks Shy of a Load" when I was in high school. In the book Roy Blount talked about how Noll was so resistant to telling the press, and by extension the fans, anything of substance. Since then I have never listened to a press conference except for injury updates. I just figure coaches are kind of like kids, they will say anything to get them through the moment.

I also don't blame coaches for that. 5 people can be in a room listening and each interpret comments differently. Look at the comment in question that Tomlin said about not looking for style points. I would interpret that as who cares how we won this particular game, as long as we won. Others take it as a statement of philosophy. That is a pretty big difference in interpretation.

How 'bout when he said "games aren't decided in the first quarter" or to that effect? Anybody watching his teams know his offenses are/were known for slow starts/no sense of urgency and more recently on top of that the whole "shorten the game" and win 18-17 philosophy.

He loves to ugly it up. His teams have never been known for being sharp or crisp.

The problem is that we aren't supposed to take his comments and Tomlinisms seriously, but they're easily interpreted by the mediocre product he puts out there year after year now.

You’re right that 90% of what coaches in the spotlight say to the media is BS

However a coach has to be careful what BS he says to get through the press conference, the wrong thing said can turn people against him and get him fired. The whole “games aren’t won in the first quarter” and “establishing physicality over scoring touchdowns” set of comments turns people against him.

The luxury Tomlin has is he works for an owner that would rather cut his big toe off with a rusty butter knife than fire a head coach. Tomlin knows this, so I believe he’s become more indignant towards criticism of him in the last few years and now we see the “that’s why I’m highly compensated” quote last year, which has just alienated more people.

However, this fan base is on edge more than I’ve ever seen it before, people are absolutely fed up with Tomlins approach and results. If fire Tomlin echoes thru the stadium multiple games this season even he might not survive it, Rooney doesn’t like to be embarrassed

Dayum!! DJ just went off!!! How long have you been holding that in dear sir?? :ROFLMAO:
/rant on (your fault)

About 15 years. I have had to grow indifferent in order to survive this trash show. I have really enjoyed the extra hunting I got in while not caring, but not sure how to survive this oven I live in with little hunting. So, it should be an interesting season.

Seriously, I am in a holding pattern only. Until McDoof is gone, we get no picks, and no post season anything. It's retardoville.

/rantoff

Oh yeah, go Steelers. Yup

Get to know rhe Superstitions. You will see amazing things. So much life in the desert

I don't remember the precise circumstances, but I remember Tomlin going for two against Jacksonville one year fairly early on in his tenure here and it was totally unnecessary. We got penalized and lost 5-10 yards, and he still went for two. I was like WTF. That may have been a playoff game, but I can't remember.

Fishing out that way?
Canyon lake for bass.
Apache lake for trout
Roosevelt lake for bigger bass.
If you like a good hike before fishing
Look up fish creek. It is a hike to get there, but I have never seen anyone else there. Good trout.
*** have not been to fish creek in 11 years.

Is Apache Lake safe to swim in?

AI Overview

No, Apache Lake is not currently safe to swim in due to a publicly warned, harmful algae bloom. Rangers in the Tonto National Forest have issued an advisory urging people and pets to stay out of the water, as contact with the algae can cause sickness. The bloom looks like green paint on the water's surface.

You are taking seriously what he says. I don't. You see his statements deeper than I do. You see his statements as a reflection of his philosophy. I see his statements as convenient to eliminate possible questions over bad play and coaching. If a press guy asks, "Why did the team appear flat at the beginning of the game?," instead of addressing the question he says "games aren't decided in the first quarter," as a that press guy, where do you go with that? Do you keep hammering it, knowing you aren't gonna get anything more? Tomlin and other coaches do it because it works.

I made a post early in the summer about this, there is no excitement anymore around this team, Tomlin has sucked all the excitement and optimism out of this fan base because we've seen the same idiotic crap for over a decade now and listening to his same stupid Tomlinisms.

Coaches do not care about all that. It is about getting through that press conference. Because by Tuesday and Wednesday, it's on to the next opponent, and what was said at the press conference is largely forgotten. Tomlin has been saying the same crap for 18 or whatever years, and it hasn't impacted him yet. It only bothers people that listen to what he says. Coaches are like politicians. You gotta go into it knowing you are gonna hear some bullshiit.

I agree the fan base is fed up. But it's more about the results than what he says. If the results were better, no one would care what his little go to sayings were. All that being said, the highly compensated comment, even though I rarely listen to anything he says outside of injuries, rubbed me the wrong way in the moment I heard it. It's just arrogance from a guy that should have some humility and gratitude for the job based on the results since 2010.

I try to focus in on the players so I can get some excitement but it isn’t easy. Just being a diehard it is hard not to watch, I do have a friend that we have been to plenty of games that isn’t watching this year for the first time. I was surprised but everyone has their limits..

You’re not alone. Every time I get a modicum of hope about the season, I remember well-coached teams will run circles around them, especially in the playoffs. I’ve never been less excited about a new season, especially with such a good roster, because I know how it’s going to end.

Oh, I still watch every game, but it used to be so exciting at the beginning of the season, you always thought if things went right we had a shot at being there in January, now it's are we going to sneak into the playoffs, who do we have to hope loses to help us get in, and how bad are we going to get embarrassed if we do make it.

No time like the present

Today I would fire Mike Tomlin
Woulda done it yesterday too
Would still do it tomorrow
Heck would even do it on Sunday at 12:59
Might really wanna do it about 4:20 on Sunday

Anytime would be a good time though

but, but, but he shouldn't be expected to do anything in the post season, he doesn't have a QB(Arthur Moats and the National Media's take). I don't think any coach in the history of the NFL has ever won a playoff game without a HOF QB.
