The Coronavirus thread

And Tim, I would imagine that you understand the gravity of this entire thing a little more than just about all of us here (I know Sarge had a loved one who got it I think, and maybe a couple others?) because it touched you personally. It's a very contagious virus. It becomes severe to fatal in people with certain underlying conditions.

All good stuff man.

And yes it is very contagious. My personal case though? It makes no sense. Kid had it, went to the beach and brought it home. It was like a cold for him. 3 days of mild symptoms. But as I've written, I, my other son and wife were around him. He had his first symptoms 3 days before being tested. We were with him for 3 days. Next to him, On couches. Eating together. I entered his room countless times after he was diagnosed with just a hand over my mouth.

The other 3 of us didn't contract it.

One would think if it is that contagious, we were bound to get it from him - and did not.

As Flogged would say - "Can't figure out."

Interesting, I didn't realize that. Could he have had a false positive test and just had a mild cold? How many times was he tested? IIRC I thought you mentioned he was tested like 3 times though. Or am I just seeing the 3 days etc. and mixing stuff up?

Thanks man, it's just what we're all feeling though I imagine. Speaking of that, just a bit ago:

Ya think? Amen, Brit.

Oh he had it, yes. Took 3 tests up front (all positive - two rapid, one the longer term one, all 3 different labs). He then took a test towards the end, after the CDC called him and said he should be clear 3 days after symptoms disappeared. The 4th day after the symptoms were gone he took another test, it was negative.

Steel. I’m certain our whole fam had it. This was early March so testing wasn’t being done to confirm. That said, I know my body, I know what I get. Once/twice tops I get a head/sinus thing. Nothing crazy. Been this way for decade plus. March 2020, kid had a sneezing fit for a couple days, then wife is sick and knocked da **** out(she is always sick so nothing new. She has immune system like a .....). Two days later I worked out and my chest felt like it’s was on fire. Not a typical thing for me given I work out everyday. Next day, sneezing dry cough. The following wham!!! Mini fever, and chills like I can even express. The thing that was the craziest was (and it’s hard to explain) my head was floating, like out of body ****. Like back in college days when I did some “stuff”. That’s when I called the doc. Zpack and within 2days back to norm.

Well, no symptoms. My body was so drained for energy.

It’ was the worst I’ve been sick in forever. BUT, my body did it’s job with a little help. And myself and my fam are still here.

My son and his wife had it in New Hampshire three weeks ago. My sister and her husband and had it two weeks ago in Utah.

Mrs. Fan and I get tested for it at work regularly - she's been tested four times, while I have been tested only three.

It's highly contagious, and has little effect.

Matthew McConaughey was on Fox and Friends and I really don't even watch Fox but I caught this video on YouTube of him talking with them, and him talking about living constructively right now. And that's be aware and be responsible and use common sense, but don't stop living your life. And he was real vocal re: people in power and in the media to stop politicizing this ****. Everything he said made perfect sense and he seems like quite the articulate and intelligent guy. But he was on Fox and Friends.

That's basically me. I wear a mask where I have to but otherwise I don't worry about it. The virus is getting weaker and 99.5% of people recover.
1. Worst-case scenario I get the 'Rona and die and my problems will be over.
2. I'm not that lucky.
So I wear one of my stupid piece of cloth masks that don't do jack ****, one says 2nd Amendment, one says Trump 2020, one says Masking Under Protest, so I can get into Walmart or Giant Eagle, go about my business, and the mask comes off the second I walk out the door.

My nursing home is getting hit hard with it right now. What is weird though is residents who are testing positive dont really have a fever and it is more of a stomach issue than the coughing / breathing issues you would think. My one housekeeper is 65 has COPD smokes, sinus issues, and just had to have a bypass done in her legs a few months ago. She tested positive and the day before she actually brought me to work and I did not get it She did have some breathing issues and was in the hospital for 2-3 days. In my GFs home the people who tested positive had more the coughing breathing troubles. The state is already talking about shutting all schools in my county and will probably recommend it on Monday. My county was down to 20 or so cases every 3 days and lately have been in tripe digits daily. Some schools are already closed for the month, luckily it is up to the individual school board to decide. So far my daughter's elementary school has not had any cases or been forced to close yet.

Last I heard, they were going to be locked out until they retracted the story.

Unreal. Just out in the open freedom of speech/press tyranny. The same media giant who's perfectly fine not censoring the Ayatollah of Iran or the propaganda of the CCP (among so many others it would take a day to list). And WTF can be done? A lot needs to change here.

My uncle just died Thursday from corona. **** you China.
My dad died 2 hours later, he had cancer.
That's strange that they passed almost together. It's like they "knew".
It's not been a good week.

The story basically goes like this... My dad had been declining in health for a few years, he was 81. It started with his mental state. Confusion, forgetfulness. He fell a few weeks ago and was found the next day when my uncle stopped to check on him. He went to the hospital where they found a mass on his liver. They said it wasn't good so transferred him to a nursing home and called hospice.
My uncle was essentially his caretaker with power of attorney over dad.
I had been talking to my uncle almost daily while myself and my brothers were cleaning out dad's apartment.
Last week my uncle went to the hospital after thinking he had pneumonia which turned out to be Covid.
He was doing well (no ventilator) and was improving quick.
Thursday, for whatever reason, his blood pressure dropped and his heart stopped. I was shocked because I had talked to him the day before and he told me he was doing great and going home Friday.
2 hours after I got the call that he had suddenly died, I got the call that my dad just passed. I had visited dad on Monday, and I knew he didn't have much time.
Due to his mental state, he didn't remember who I was. That was extremely difficult to take as you could imagine.

Crazy ****. I'm just numb.

Wow! Sorry for your loss, Steeler.

Really sorry to hear that Steeler. Glad you were able to visit your Dad. Easy to say and tough to do at this point but take some solace in knowing your uncle was able to fulfill his internal drive at the time which was to take care of his brother in his time of need.

I know it was tough to see your dad in that state, and it will be a tough memory. Been through it after seeing my dad linger for 3 years. If there's any consolation, at least they didn't have to just exist in a nursing home and unable to see family indefinitely. Hang in there Steeler.

Condolences to you and your family Steeler.
Tough times.
