The Coronavirus thread

Well isn't this interesting. Fear mongers screaming and yelling about college students being super spreaders of COVID, killing the world!

More evidence all of this is over-hyped. Nearly 70,000 college students with COVID, 3 hospitalizations, 0 deaths. It isn't EVEN the flu for the young.

Point to where I'm promoting not wearing them?

I'm questioning their effectiveness. Don't expect you to appreciate the difference between promoting not wearing them and questioning their effectiveness.

Here's another idea you can noodle on...my son got COVID. His first symptoms were on Saturday. Didn't tell anyone because he thought they were nothing. He got tested/confirmed on a Tuesday. During those 3 days, I was around him a couple/few hours a day. Inside...the most dangerous place to be. No masks. Sometimes sitting shoulder to shoulder on a couch.

After he got it, I entered his room 6 times to deliver meds for his ear ache, to deliver food, remove plates...sometimes with nothing more than my hand over my mouth.

My wife entered several times as well.

We had the air conditioning on. The intake is just outside his bedroom door...sucking all of his foul COVID infected air into the central air system.

We let him leave to take isolated walks in isolated areas. Or to go to the deck to lay in the sun.

Not one of us got it but him.

We know COVID is your new religion flog.

I give. What IS your point???

It’s not contagious? It’s random?

Would you not take offense to someone coughing or sneezing in your company and not covering their mouth? I mean, it’s not guaranteed to get you sick, right?

Nothing an airlift to the hospital, an experimental anti-body treatment, supplemental oxygen and steroids can’t cure.
Geez, that is a big deal!

Hope you are better!!

Does locking your Covid positive kid in his room prevent Covid from spreading? You didn’t have any problem doing that!

TSF cited information about the efficacy or lack thereof of masks for the non-infected population. Your analogy has nothing to do with anything.

Because they implemented mask mandates when cases started to rise and continued to see cases rise, doesn’t prove anything, Tim.

Actually, given the time span for the 8 graphs covering 10 large areas referenced, it most certainly does. Specifically, if masks reduced the spread of the Chinese flu (say it, Flog, SAY IT!! Chinese flu - SAY IT!), then at least one large area referenced - covering cities, states, even countries - would be expected to show a continued uptick in cases for about 15 days following the mask mandate while those previously infected due to no masks were tested and diagnosed, followed by a leveling or lowering of that rate at day 16 and beyond. Instead, every example showed an upward curve following the mask mandate that was unchanged compared to the increase prior to the mask orders. The same. No different. No variation. None. At all. In any example.

Get it?

13 countries had less Covid cases than the White House last week.

False. Countries had less positive tests, which is NOT the same as Covid cases.

If Los Angeles County stops testing for AIDS, is the disease cured? Think before you type, idiot.

But you and Trump go on promoting not wearing masks, I think it’s really beginning to resonate with people. I mean, why wouldn’t it?

Flog, nobody is surprised that you have been duped, like a good little quisling kitten chasing a piece of yarn, since you are not bright. Okay, you're stupid. Really, you would have been a role model in the old Soviet Union. "Flogman met quota this month, he good worker." You have lapped up and swallowed every lie foisted on us. You need clarification, because of how dumb you are? Sure, no problem:

  • You supported closing schools, including colleges.
  • Grade school kids are showing demonstrable declines in learning, and a retardation of social skills that has generated depression, anxiety, even suicide.
  • 20% of adults - twice the normal rate - now say they are depressed, due to the moronic panic-driven, stupid lockdown.
  • The lockdown is going to cause a massive increase in adolescent depression, likely for many years to come.
  • Tim posted a chart showing that of more than 69,000 college students who caught the Chinese flu, a grand total of THREE required hospitalization, and ZERO died. ZERO. NONE. BUPKUS. NADA, NICHT.
  • Millions are out of work due to the stupid lockdown, and the vast, VAST majority are under age 50 and not high risk.
  • You think throwing millions who face almost no risk of death out of work, closing their businesses by the thousands, ruining savings, and lives, is okey-*******-dokey.
  • And harming children's mental health, academic development, and doubling depression among adults, while destroying lives, is all worth it because the survival rate for those under age 70 is a mere 99.8%.
  • So the lockdown is mandatory.
  • But of course Flogman continues his work and wages unabated.
  • So if the ******* lockdown is so ******* great, why don't you lock yourself down and quit going to ******* work, you despicable, lying superspreader?
  • Oh, right, you matter and should keep earning a living while the unimportant should just go bankrupt and kill themselves.
  • Meanwhile, cloth masks will NOT - repeat, dipshit, WILL NOT - prevent you from contracting the Chinese flu.
  • "But the CDC does note, 'A cloth face covering may not protect the wearer ...'"
  • Let me explain this to you, you dumb, ignorant, preening, preaching, lecturing **** - Trump did not get the Chinese flu because he failed to wear a mask. His wearing of the mask would have made NO ******* DIFFERENCE in his getting the goddamn flu. Get it?

Nothing an airlift to the hospital, an experimental anti-body treatment, supplemental oxygen and steroids can’t cure.

Apparently, 99.9% of those under age 30 received that care and we just did not hear about it.

Right?

P.S. It's "antibody." "Anti-body" means "opposed to the body."

I give. What IS your point???

It’s not contagious? It’s random?

Would you not take offense to someone coughing or sneezing in your company and not covering their mouth? I mean, it’s not guaranteed to get you sick, right?

maybe its me not being as "open minded" as you, but anytime someone sneezes or coughs in my presence I assume my body's immune system can overcome. Now, unlike you, I won't screech, clutch my pearls and run for the hills. Nor will I stick my face closer to that person. However, the human body is able to defend itself. If it wasn't, none of us would be here.

I give. What IS your point???

Daft and dense.

You can't read the original post and infer the point? Hell, I'm not sure you need to infer it. It's stated....masks...may...not...work.

"Hey man, I listen to the science."

It's right there...in front of your face.

It’s not contagious? It’s random?

Clearly you follow Joe Biden's scientists and you fancy yourself a doctor, so you tell me. I explained my exposure to my son for 3 days while he had the virus and my wife's and my subsequent interactions with him and living in the same house using the same HVAC system and we didn't wear masks and we didn't get it.

Explain Dr. Flogged.

We wait.

A tip on masks since most of us are forced to wear them now. If you want a more comfortable mask, search for Cone face mask. That will bring up masks that go up over the nose but are lower under the eyes as opposed to the regular mask that just goes straight across and will sit close to your eyes and be in your field of vision. I had been looking for masks like that and figured out the key is searching for Cone.

But you and Trump go on promoting not wearing masks, I think it’s really beginning to resonate with people. I mean, why wouldn’t it?

Neither Tim or Trump ever promoted not wearing masks, but now that you mention masks, perhaps you missed this:

Here it is from the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons on wearing masks:

https://aapsonline.org/mask-facts/

It's very thorough and cites an incredible amount of sources, but for anyone who doesn't want to read all of that, they concluded:

• Conclusion: Wearing masks (other than N95) will not be effective at preventing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, whether worn as source control or as PPE.

• N95s protect health care workers, but are not recommended for source control transmission.

• Surgical masks are better than cloth but not very efficient at preventing emissions from infected patients. Cloth masks must be 3 layers, plus adding static electricity by rubbing with rubber glove.

• The cloth that serves as the filtration for the mask is meant to trap particles being breathed in and out. But it also serves as a barrier to air movement because it forces the air to take the path of least resistance, resulting in the aerosols going in and out at the sides of the mask.

• An August 2020 UCSF study suggested that the mask would decrease the absolute volume of the inoculum. (The concentrations of bacteria upstream and downstream of the test devices were measured with an aerodynamic size spectrometer)

And Flog, about those lockdowns that put lead in your pencil ... care to take a stab at why the anti-lockdown nation of Sweden has a lower per capita death rate than 12 lockdown countries?

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

And for the love of God, please don't say, "Yeah, but compared to Norway ..."

If the goddamn lockdowns worked and failure to have a lockdown had the disastrous consequences your ilk promised, then why in the hell does Sweden have such a low per capita fatality rate? And why is Sweden now not experiencing a "return" of the Chinese flu?

Time to admit the lockdowns did not have much effect, other than to delay the spread of the disease for a while, and made no sense at all, ever, for those not at risk such as people under 50, grade schools, high schools, colleges, etc.

Flog, you have been lied to and duped. Your insistence that lockdowns and self-destruction of the economy were the best choice, indeed the only choice, calls to mind Mark Twain's comment, "It's a lot easier to fool people than convince people they've been fooled."

The cure is worse than the virus

Declaration Calling for an End to Lockdowns Signed by Thousands of Medical and Public Health Experts

Thousands of medical and public health experts have signed on to a declaration calling for an end to lockdown policies in favor of a more targeted approach to combatting the coronavirus pandemic.

Harvard University professor Dr. Martin Kulldorff, Oxford University epidemiologist Dr. Sunetra Gupta, and Stanford University physician and epidemiologist Dr. Jay Bhattacharya wrote and published “The Great Barrington Declaration” on Sunday. It has since drawn tens of thousands of signatories.

By Wednesday morning, nearly 3,200 medical and public health scientists, nearly 4,800 medical practitioners, and over 73,100 others had signed onto the declaration. The declaration comes as some elected officials in the U.S., such as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, are cracking down again on their states with renewed lockdown measures.

“As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection,” the declaration begins.

“Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings, and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice,” it continues.

The doctors say that the current approach to fighting the pandemic — locking down wide swaths of the economy and barring people from gathering in places such as schools and churches — “will cause irreparable damage” if continued until a vaccine is readily available to the public.

Instead, the doctors recommend a targeted approach that protects high-risk populations, such as the elderly and those with co-morbidities. The doctors also point out that for many people, especially the young, “COVID-19 is less dangerous than many other harms, including influenza.”

The doctors endorse the same strategy followed by Sweden’s government in fighting the virus, known as herd immunity. As more people from less at-risk populations get the virus and build up an immunity, the threat of the virus to society at large falls.

“As immunity builds in the population, the risk of infection to all – including the vulnerable – falls,” the declaration says. “We know that all populations will eventually reach herd immunity – i.e. the point at which the rate of new infections is stable – and that this can be assisted by (but is not dependent upon) a vaccine. Our goal should therefore be to minimize mortality and social harm until we reach herd immunity.”

The doctors recommend special protections be put in place for people that live in nursing homes, for example. Staff at such facilities should have immunity to the disease and rotating staff should be done as little as possible.

The vast majority of people should be “be allowed to resume life as normal,” the doctors say.

“Simple hygiene measures, such as hand washing and staying home when sick should be practiced by everyone to reduce the herd immunity threshold. Schools and universities should be open for in-person teaching. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, should be resumed. Young low-risk adults should work normally, rather than from home,” the declaration says. “Restaurants and other businesses should open. Arts, music, sport and other cultural activities should resume. People who are more at risk may participate if they wish, while society as a whole enjoys the protection conferred upon the vulnerable by those who have built up herd immunity.”

That's the one person (don't think she even deserves that title) my dad and most Vietnam Veterans (I'd assume), would gladly go to jail on homicide for.

MSN will no doubt generate a headline stating 50% increase in COVID deaths in one day.

Well done, sir. You have your finger on the pulse of our brave and unbiased media.

If I saw her on the street, I would punch her in the face. I am not proud of that. I wouldn't be able to physically resist, and I would take the legal consequences.
