The Coronavirus thread

Get off your high horse Lebanon, I'm not politicizing anything. The fact is, those four GOP members, all close to Trump, just went into quarantine. That's a fact.

I drew the parallel to Iran, as there too high ranking politicians - all part of the government who dismissed the virus as insignificant - ended up with the virus.

This is not some sort of partisan storyline I'm drawing up to make a point. It just happens to be reality, what is actually happening.

Even though I disagee with 100% of what folks like Collins & Gaetz stand for politically, I wish them nothing but the best health-wise and sincerely hope their tests come back negative.

We are forgetting the one thing that binds us all together. We're Americans and we should be looking out for each other, not tearing down that commonality. We've allowed our government officials to divide us over petty policies and opinions. Its not their government, but ours and somewhere along the line we have forgotten that. The sooner we make peace amongst ourselves the sooner we can start to repair the divide that separates us. Hey look, I am just as guilty of this tribalism as the next guy so I don't want to come across holier than thou. I just want this madness to end, or I fear as Sarge has been saying for a while now, our country is over.

I’m referring to the incessant whining and lying about Donald Trump that you do. I think he’s done a damn good job with us and has tried to keep people calm and people like you and the media and Spike are keeping that from happening. And in your case and in the medias case I see it as nothing but pure partisan politics trying to take political advantage of a bad situation. In spikes case I think he’s just lost it.

I've been pretty ****** to you lately, and that isn't cool. Hell I even bragged about liking to insult you. Also not cool. I apologize for that, it doesn't help anything but further the divide. So here's an olive branch, maybe we can have a little more intellectual honesty and stop going to our prospective corners and pointing fingers and using what about-ism to justify the acts of our elected officials.

Heard from my cousin near Mlian, the actor. He said everything is locked down and everyone is to stay inside except for business purpose. Avoid crowds and wash hands. I used regular PM but he sent me a voice PM so I had to try a voice translation app. He sounds pissed off.

I dunno man, there are no sacred cows as far as elected officials, imo. Trump has not simply 'tried to keep people calm' as you state. That's a huuuuge leap of fate to characterize his words and actions as such. I wish him well. I want him to be a leader, to take charge of the situation, bring people together, be earnest and have a plan in place for what is happening. Thus far, everything I've seen and heard from him has been the opposite.

But if it makes you feel better, I'll stop criticizing Trump and his cabinet. I just hope they figure things out, and do so quickly. More than anything, he's got to stop lying to the American people.

'Unprecedented': Italy expands lockdown to entire country of 60 million

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced Monday that a lockdown already in place for the northern part of the country would be expanded to the entire nation, an “unprecedented” move meant to better contain the growing outbreak.

All travel in the country is now banned except in cases of emergency, and all sporting events have been canceled. Additionally, all public gatherings of any kind are now prohibited.

“There won’t be just a red zone,” Conte said in reference to areas of the country already in lockdown. “There will be Italy.”

The shutdown will extend school closures across the country of 60 million people until April 3.

“This night life...we can’t allow this anymore,” Conte said. All restaurants, bars, and cafes nationwide will have to close at dusk under the new lockdown.

Instead of simply criticizing Trump for what he's not doing, here is a reasonable suggestion on what he could be, or should be doing. I agree on all fronts.

my other cousin near Salerno said everyplace is closed. If the government does not feel it is contained by March 15 they will shut down the entire country for three weeks and one person from each household will be allowed to leave and go to a military checkpoint for supplies.

Well to be honest we are not sure you ever had it.

Spike I go into people's homes almost every day for a couple hours. I have been exposed to **** you could never imagine. Hell I had to sit across from a lady who was two weeks from death and she knew it. She was hacking and coughing while on oxygen all while sitting there with a cigarette writing me a check to fix her bathroom for her son when he inherited the home. Not much scares me as far as germs and disease. I wash my hands and try to stay healthy. This **** out now has very low chance of killing me or even making me all that sick, my dad and father in law we have told to stay out of public places, them I worry about.

Flights continue to land in the U.S. from coronavirus hotspot Italy - Outrage as passengers pass back into America with little or NO screening

Passengers are still not being properly screened as they arrive into the United States from Italy, according to scores of travelers online.

President Donald Trump had vowed on March 1 that anyone returning from 'high risk countries' would be screened both before they boarded planes and once they had returned to the US.

There are still direct flights from Milan to JFK via Emirates available for Tuesday

Many travelers took to Twitter to share stories about returning to America from the high-risk countries with minimal to no screening.

One traveler wrote on Twitter Monday: 'Flew into LAX yesterday out of Heathrow. No checks on either end and flights landing from both China and Italy at the same time. Some context, was in Tanzania and Kenya last week and they even had checks inbound and outbound. How can this be?'

Trina Hayes said Monday: 'We returned from 10 days in southern Italy on Saturday night. Despite US saying no one allowed to board with a fever over 99.5, no one on our flight from Rome to JFK had a temperature check. We were not checked for any symptoms at JFK or O’Hare either.'

And Twitter user Joshua Frank: 'Just had family return from Italy, landed in Atlanta. They had their temperatures taken in Rome before boarding, but nothing upon arrival home. Not even a single question about where they had traveled in Italy. Nada.'
