The Coaching Decision We SHOULD Be Talking About Today

I just can't come up with any logical reason for not using a timeout in that situation. Belichick couldn't possibly think NE would stop them when Sea was 2nd and goal from the 1. I wanted the Seahawks to win but even I was saying to call a timeout at that time. Just odd given the circumstances.

I think Belichek thought he had a better chance to stop them with a FG than to move the ball after a score. Saw an interesting stat that Lynch was 1-6 during the season and 1-4 postseason inside the 2. If that is true I'd bet both coaches knew it and it played in their decisions.

Everyone is going to beat the final play call to death and rightfully so. But, pretend for a minute that Seattle doesn't try to out-think the world.

So Seattle runs it with Lynch on 1st and goal down to the 1. At that point there's just under 1:00 left. With 2 timeouts left, the Pats decide NOT to take a timeout and let the clock run all the way down under :30. Why?? Even the announcers were saying they should just "let him score" to preserve time. They had 2 timeouts to "preserve time", they didn't need to let him score. Should the Seahawks run it with Lynch on 2nd down and get a TD, they have over :50 left to try to get in FG range if they take a timeout there. Instead, they would've been left with under :25. If Seattle scores, I feel like this would be the questionable coaching decision that would be talked about today.

I would've been screaming at the TV for Tomlin to take a timeout in that situation. Am I missing something here?

Indeed, I was surprised that the Pats didn't take an immediate TO when Lynch ran it to the one and then coming out of the TO they immediately allow the Seahawks to score leaving approximately 45-50 seconds for Brady and the offense to tie, but also try to win. It certainly worked out for them, almost as if they knew exactly which play the Seahawks would run.

The play I think the Pats screwed up was the TD pass with 2 seconds left in the 1st half. I tell my players to tackle every reveiver at the LOS , take the penalty and make the Hags kick the FG, why give up 7 ?

Good point. Penalty would be half the distance, but the clock would be expired. If they get just one play, they kick.

for those of you who don't know how to spell it

"billicheat" got it?

No, you are not missing anything. The **Pats had 2 timeouts left.

If they call a TO with 50 seconds left, the Chickens run the ball. Stop them, and call TO.

They score, you get the kickoff with 45 seconds and a TO, needing only a field goal. Field goal Tommy can do that.
