The agents had a huge part in this... especially Bell's agent. I am annoyed that a player can go to a team that he is being traded to and tell them he isn't going to play for them when he has three years left and has a no trade clause. They Steelers should be able to go after Brown and his agent for damages and get some of their money back from Brown.
Yeah I'm with you here, this seems screwy to me. As you say, a player under contact that does not include a no trade clause but yet he is able to dictate the terms of the trade. This makes the Steelers ownership and executive management look very weak as they did exactly that and got fleeced by Oakland.
I was so afraid of this when Art II took over since I never got the feeling that this was never anything more for Art II than just a business and an inheritance and not a passion like his father and grandfather. He always seemed to meek as substantiated by this debacle, and when he posed with Brown in Florida with Brown's arm around him. Geez! Thats when Rooney should have told Brown and his agent you aren't going anywhere except Pittsburgh since we cannot receive fair value after you Brown have managed to devalue yourself. Your options are play here or retire, but if you retire we want money back from you. Call that idiot and his money grubbing agent's bluff. Thats what a strong owner would have done. I think now we all know for sure where the problems begin with this team now.
