The Bus Has A Message.....

only other option 8s trade him for a top notch MLB and sign DeMarco murray

Let the man(Bell) play the year out and then we can move on next year. If he waits until a week before the season to sign the tag you just ease him into the game plan over the next 2 or 3 weeks. Giving the starts to the guy that put the time in. Conner? Depending how that goes the first few weeks will depend on the snap counts for the rest of the season. That's how I would deal with the issue, but I see the Steelers handing Bell a full workload week 1 just like last season. Then again Conner will have a year of experience. Maybe that will change the way the Steelers approach the whole thing. Maybe.

Bettis is 100% correct. Put Bell on an average team, and nobody is paying him close to the franchise tag.

The weird thing is it happens all the time. A player hits FA and then goes to a team that pays him a boatload of money and he never does what he did before. Why exactly will Bell not get $14.5 mill from another team....especially ones that have large amount of cap space available. I would bet if the Steelers had more space available a deal would be done by now. We don't have a bunch of space so we have to look into future. And rightly so.

That is the reason we remain so CONSISTANTLY competitive through out time. We do look ahead and fair value our players. Really, think about it, how many super stars have left in their "PRIME" ???

It happens a lot, but I've seen good players stuck on bad teams, doing better once he moves in free agency.

In my opinion, Bell goes down a peg in terms of his performance on an average team. Sure, pay a guy on a loaded team with failed drugs tests, injuries and a 4.0 average yards per carry last season 14.5M and tolerate his cheap shots on social media during the process where he likely skips camp and starts rusty.

I guess I'll never know, but a sign and trade if Bell wanted it to do it would have helped this team. My guess is a few teams would have taken that deal, freeing up 14.5 Million in cap space for us to re-load the defense, and likely picking up draft picks as part of the trade. We could have purchased the super bowl winning back field for far less than what it would cost to keep Bell for one year. Just saying...look at what Miami got for Jarvis Landry!

Well I think its all Ben and Kevin Colbert doing the drafting that keeps the team winning.

In free agency, sometimes the Steelers make the wrong moves. Giving Worlds a tag amount, then watching him retire, giving Woodley a new deal only to see him get too heavy, or keeping older expensive vets a year or two too long ( Hampton, Ike, Troy ) when we could have cut them and saved $$$ on the cap. The Cortez Allen deal was pretty bad. However the Steelers do a good job at keeping our A list players with the team in general.

Once again, Bell has never held out or skipped camp. He is not under contract, and chose to sign week 4 of preseason. I think it is a smart move for anyone who is tagged, to do the same. He was healthy all last year, and I will take that over him breaking down in December any year.

Another team will pay him that money. It's going to happen. It just has to come down to Bell, if he wants to play with talent and a chance to win, or chase that dollar?

I don't have a problem with him coming in late but he should sign no later than the day after the first preseason game so he can get into a grove with the offense, but I still think he is a greedy ******* and I was the first person on this board to even mention Bells name; two years before the draft.
