Yes, the BAR at QB play has been set historically high. Ben Roethlesberger is nearly impossible to follow up for greatness.

I realize we will struggle to find the QB of the future, but dang we had a GREAT one for many years.

It’s a great watch, “Big Ben’s Clutch Gunslinger Career Highlights”

To many to single out, involved in arguable the greatest play in SB history.

I had a Roethlesberger, in Pittsburgh.!

Any other QB in history would have won the SB MVP after that final drive against the cards....Ben will never get the respect he deserves

Add in that he missed out on League MVP twice (I believe).

Also come back player of the year.

Many accolades gone by the wayside.

BUT he has many that they can't take away, in the record books.

Ben could easily be argued for any position of the top 6 QBs all time.

Imagine if the entire coaching was better the last 1/2 of his career.

Just to remind that t*mmyb*y is not in this conversation, that’s what cheating does for you.

Ben never received the proper respect and accolades he so deserved and I think that it’s attributed to his off the field issues.
Particularly the encounter with the college girl in the bar in Georgia where she made accusations against him.
I know he never got charged but it left a bad taste with many of the sports media and the league.
So bad that Ben never received any endorsement deals and TV commercials.
I hope this doesn’t hurt his HOF election. He should be a first ballot but we shall see.

If Brady, Manning, Brees, etc. would've lead that Super Bowl winning drive, it would get talked about every single year at Super Bowl time, the national media never even brings that play/drive up, hell they talk about John Elway's drive vs Cleveland in an AFCCG way more than that drive, they even gave that drive a name.
Imagine his numbers if he had a legit X's O's coach that gave him more freedom other than when we were trailing, instead of a glorified cheerleader.

3 words
Receivers, receivers, receivers.
Seems like every other play the announcer was yelling “wide open”!!!!
And those diving down low catches.

Ben is probably the best in his generation for his escapability and making the big play.

She was s-faced drunk and flirted with him and he was like "yuck" and boy she got her revenge.

It didn’t slow the vote on rayray the knife wielding LB that had 2-dead invovled. Rayray actually di time behind bars as well.

Ben didn’t get MVP because he played in an era with Manning, Brady, Brees, ARod, Mahomes, Jackson, and they actually gave out a few to RBs during his career.

Which year do we think he should have gotten it?

Totally agree on SB MVP, that was out of pure spite. If that was Holmes first catch of the game he still would have won it.

We were blessed to have been for 18 years. That seldom happens having a franchise qb for that long. We went 20 plus years between Terry and Ben is anyone really surprised they haven't gotten another in 4 years?

Not surprised at all.

Tomlin hasn’t had to deal with the QB position at all his entire time here. It was a given and also pretty common knowledge that he didn’t want anything to do with having to deal with QBs.

His “green-ness” shows as he is trying to duplicate the position back to where is wasn’t a worry for him. Old “vet” QBs seem trouble free until you realize they are way past their prime.

Many here said BEN was done, stick a fork in him……… Yet he engineered 7 come from behind victories. Does that seem washed up? He chose to retire at the right time but even at that he was as good as anything Tomlin had on the roster. He was better than Russel Wilson and will more likely than not, prove to have been better than the invisible rogers.

All this shows is how inept the Tomlin is at the QB position.

PS

Add in the “delay” of the future. This merry-go round approach has us in the same drama, nothing for the future view. Where is the Developement of any QB in the last 4 years?

The same can be said for almost every coach in his position in my opinion. He has his faults but replacing a QB like Ben is almost always a **** show for any franchise unless you get extremely lucky.

I didn't say replace a QB equal to Ben, just we don't even have a QB to build upon. Tomlin has sort of washed his hands with these OLD guys and no future.

We got the best value QB in our 6th round pick this year, after 4 years of trying. KFP was taken in the 1st and yet... where is he? Add in Will H. will be a better QB than Picket.

How many coaches are in "his" position? I don't see that group as being very big. How many coaches are pursuing ancient QBs as their prime starters and letting more age appropriate with up-side abilities go for very little cost?

Sorry, Coach Tomlin needs to be held accountable for the "hostage" mess we are in.

You have to understand offense and value the position. He doesn’t. Remember what Juju said after he was in the Chiefs’s system for a couple weeks?

It isn’t easy in general, that is true, but it’s nigh on impossible if you have a defensive head coach who doesn’t understand offense other than acknowledging that turnovers are bad.

GB had a plan to replace both Favre and Rodgers, KC had a plan to replace Smith, Indy replaced Manning with Luck, SF gets production out of just about anyone they put back there.

The Steelers, after passing on both Lamar and Hurts during Ben’s waning years, arrogantly thought they could simply just pluck a guy from college the year after Ben retired and keep the train running, and then put him in a Matt Canada offense with a bad OL.

Plenty passed on Lamar and Hurts. Hurts is in the perfect system for him. Same with Lamar. Luck was the first overall pick because Indy sucked after Manning and they won nothing to show for him. Hindsight is 20/20 on Hurts and Lamar but they wouldn't have succeeded in every system. Luck is a very bad example, that wasn't planning unless you call actually tanking a good idea, I don't.

Tomlin loves QB mobility and the run game, Hurts or Lamar would seem to be his prototype. Even if they wouldn’t have worked out, would have liked the picks better than Edmunds and Claypool.

Did the Colts tank or did they they lose Manning for the year? When the Steelers lost Ben for the year, they panicked that they might finish below .500 and traded away their 1st round pick for a safety. A first round pick in a draft that has produced five franchise QBs. THAT move set the franchise back five years.

It’s hard finding franchise QBs but the Steelers have had plenty of opportunities to snag one in recent years.

Exactly.

Lose HoF QB to possibly career ending elbow injury, use top pick for a safety. That left a hole that has never been properly filled.

Minkah was a great addition, but like Najee, the wrong guy with that #1 pick.
