the 4000 lb Elephant in the Room

Tomlin always puts it on the players, never says they need to make adjustments or the scheme wasn't well planned. Look at McDermott during our game, they're up 9-7 going into the half and he says we have alot of adjustments to make
And Tomlin stated they made zero game adjustments at halftime. That they just started to execute the plays. Blah blah blah. Everyone deserves blame. Ben. Tomlin. Fichtner. Wrs. OL. Defense at times. Bulter. Rooney's....etc.

Time to relieve him of the play calling.

Fichtner needs the DJ Jazzy Jeff treatment.

Reminds me of the time Ben was supposedly making up plays on the spot telling guys what routes to run in the huddle. I am more inclined to believe JuJu in this instance. I doubt a speech from Ben telling guys to have fun after several abysmal weeks magically worked. There had to be some other changes under the hood.

Sounds like folks want to lay the blame at Fichtner’s feet (and he certainly deserves some of the blame), but I’m not buying that he is the sole reason for our ills. I watched the Ravens, Bengals, Bills, and first half of the Colts games and saw Ben struggle mightily to make throws that he normally makes.

BTW, Ben also got away with a couple passes yesterday that should have been intercepted,,including a pic six. Ben’s not the sole problem, but I’m also not buying the narrative that this is all in Fichtner and we just need to let Ben make the calls.

Not going to defend the players...their performance has been lackluster to say the least including Ben. However, when the offense is so predictable that the defense is calling the play out on the field then the players are not being put in a position to succeed. At some point, the OC needs to try something different and somethign different that makes some sense to try to give the guys on the field a chance. Truth is, no one reason is the magic bullet reason, but when the defense knows what is coming at them something is terribly wrong.

Wow...

Just like the bengals jumping jujus short crossing route. This is the problem.

Accurate. I think formation/Alignment and pre snap motion is tipping play. That and they cannot run so like that one play dude instinctively blitzed. He knew he couldn't stop run but had a 35 percent or more chance of a free sack if it was PA.

If a defense is recognizing a play by motion/formation, that is actually useful IF the OC picks up on it and has/calls a complementary play. I used to run a lot of presnap jet motion to set up my misdirection plays. What I don't see is OCRF exploiting the over commitment by the defense.

Well Hell! What are we supposed to believe? JuJu says they were running plays that they hadn't practiced. But Ebron says (via DKPS) that all the plays called in the second half were plays they've run in practice. Maybe JuJu was off dancing while they practiced those plays?

well they could be plays they ran in practice just not in practice this week preparing for the colts....so maybe both are accurate...or it is all bullshit

Why Does Fichtner Have A Job?

So in the first half, the Colts D was literally calling out the Steelers plays pre-snap. It wasn't until halftime and a 21 point deficit that Ben said to hell with it and started running his own plays on the fly and voila, the offense looked good again.

If Fichtner is this inept at playcalling, why is he still here when that's literally his only job? This is a legitimate question.

Another question, with 6+ weeks of this same stagnant offense, why did it take until halftime of the 7th game before a change was made?? That is just idiotic.

Interested to see if we go right back to Fichtner's offense in the playoffs or if Ben is allowed free reign to do his thing from the opening possession. It would likely mean the difference between a potentially deep run or another one-and-done.

"Silver said. “Smith-Schuster told me, ‘Ben was great. The Colts’ defense was great early on. They were calling out plays they knew we were running. Ben’s mind is super-creative. He was calling plays in the second half that we did not practice — just pulling things from the past.

After all that public debacle how does randy still have a job?

So Tomlin says we were calling out their plays also in the first half, were we calling out the wrong ones? Colts scored 21 points on our defense in the first half.

First off, you can't take anything Ben says post-game seriously. After the whole AB thing where Ben was thrown under the bus for being a "bad leader" he has done nothing but take ALL the blame EVERY TIME for anything that goes wrong. Conversely, whenever something goes well, Ben goes out of his way to point to the offensive line, the receivers, the RBs, even the coaches.

Ben is 100% determined to be seen as a consummate teammate.

I suspect that both Ebron and JuJu were right. JuJu said Ben was pulling up stuff from the past that they hadn't practiced. I take this to mean they didn't practice it this week, but clearly have over the season.

Can't blame the guy for wanting to try to repair his image, the media did everything they could to paint him the villain. But the reasoning does make sense on Juju-Ebron's take.

Do you guys remember early on in the seasons, when the WR and TE were saying the same thing. I believe it was like 3 weeks in a row that Ben was drawing up plays in the dirt(as they called it) when Randy's **** didn't work. Tomlin pretty much scuffed at that notion. after that we pretty much didn't see anymore of it. and the offense became so predictable.

John Elway beat the Steelers in a playoff game with Shannon Sharpe doing literally that. He drew up a play in the dirt and hit Shannon for a 1st and put the game away.

After the game Horseface told the media that Elway literally drew a few routes in the dirt for Sharpe and said, "You run this!" Other routes were assigned to other guys.
