Texans waived SS D.J. Swearinger.

I suggested him as depth and because I knew Tomlin liked him. It's pretty easy to see that we would have put a waiver claim in on him. I'm comfortable with my level of football knowledge and stand by most of my ideas. Not sure how I am inferior, or why such a comment would be made.

How do you look in a wet t-shirt???

I was here back in 2001 on the old Steelerwatch site, so I have some Seniority over other Zack's...ha, ha

How did we end up with two Zacks and which one is the best should we need to cut one?

Swearinger would be an interesting pick up, but I bet other teams higher on the waiver wire will place a claim. I haven't seen any news on him. Wonder if he made it through waivers??

He made it through without being claimed.

Ok, look...this guy sucks...had high hopes for him entering the League....hits a ton when he doesn't miss, couldn't cover **** with the Sunday Trib.

pass.

Golden is better than this guy....and it's not even close.

Not to replace Golden but to perhaps replace a never will in Sham not so wow.

He's a box safety, IMO - while I like Golden's growth - we need a bit "more" when it comes to stopping the opponents running game...

No we don't... we are in the top dozen rushing defenses in yards allowed, 7th in yards per rush... the pass defense is 30th in the league and really has only been saved by better play in the red zone with a short field.... getting a run stopping no coverage safety is stupid. it would be a massive downgrade for no good reason...

its a passing league, you cant be pass deficient and expect to win anything these days...
the top 10 rushing defenses in yards per attempt this season are 44-49... 6 have losing records.
The top 10 passing defenses are 62-28 and only 2 have losing records...

Great insightful post, AGREE, why hit hard when it's illeagal and need to stop the pass in todays nfl. Lately I've been seeing some pretty good hits, not of the old school, but of the leagal non-head to head type. Even with that, the big hiters are of the past. Sad really

Salute the nation

So we are worried about a position where they have two entrenched starters and at least one fairly promising backup but we arent concerned about running back where they have a 32 year old player and two complete no names behind him. sounds about right.

Butlers D is actually using legal hard hits as well as anyone except Seattle in intimidating WRs into turnovers and incompletions this year... so I wouldn't say its totally gone, but as the stats show, its not quite as effective as it used to be... im cool with Mitchell and even the rather slow Allen... and I think Golden is an actual playmaker who can cover... I just don't want another guy who is totally exposed in coverage trying to make that big hit... we have that in shamarko already. Id say we need another good coverage guy who can handle a big fast TE, but im not sure we would play him anyhow, with the way they used Golden and Boykin thus far, Im thinking they are valuing hits over caverage anyhow. Blake is a pure hitter, Boykins all coverage...

Maybe swearinger can play RB... ;)

Thing is regardless if we like it or not the Steelers brought in two options at RB so it is addressing the situation even if it proves to be ineffective.

What SS has been brought in?

let me count it for yinz

O

a big fat zero

they addressed every other weakness

as they brought in a CB/QB/RB

but at safety in case yinz forgot already

zero

so that is not addressing the situation

Nobody thought anything of Blake and Cockwell but they liked them and brought them in with mixed results.

But still at the end of the day yinz can't sit on your hands and hope Sham not so wow Thomas can show something anything,

as in his career so far he has shown

if yinz guessed zero, I will give you a Steeler merit badge

Stupidity is failing and then doing the same thing again

expecting different results.

sure whoever is brought in might fail

but in that small percent chance that they don't

it was still better than sitting back

and being stupid

I believe if you claim him off waivers you have to add him to the 53 man roster. Who would someone who is not stupid cut?

Interesting point, Slash.

I'll throw one name out...

It's unfortunate but Vince Williams would be my choice - as we're heavy at ILB.

Hell, if we could bring back Holliman to rove the open field move Mitchell over to SS?

Isn't Vince in some of the goal line D formations?

I wouldn't cut him...

If we sign him, just cut Shamarko. There, that was easy
