What Atholon's Pro Football Magazine thinks of our DB's

If you go grocery shopping or to book store, you cannot avoid the football magazines on the shelf. I took time out to look at Atholon's who usually offers solid macro analysis on all 32 teams.

While thumbing through it, I noticed they had a players ratings per position.

At quarterback, Ben was 5th overall. Okay's that's fair. But where do our DB's rate? IMO this has been our weakest unit for years, and one that significantly benefits from one of the best pass rushes in football. With an average pass rush, our DB's would closer to burnt toast.

At Cornerback neither Haden or Nelson rate...in the top 30. I think Haden should rate in the top 30, maybe Atholon's think he's on the decline.

At Safety, Sean Davis, a player I'd like to see replaced makes the cut as the 27th best safety. At least Davis is a very cap friendly player....for now.

Nelson, who was brought in via free agency ranked 2nd overall among corners for yardage surrendered last season did not rate.

This brings me to Edmunds ( Who did not rate in the top 30 either ) and Layne. These two young players must pan out, because Haden isn't going to be around at his cap number for long, and Davis will be either overpaid for free agency or need to be replaced.

There were a few upside safeties the Steelers could have picked later in the draft. They choose none.

got it. Davis sucks. and has since he was our Rookie of the year. He will never ever be spoken of in a positive way no matter what. if he makes the pro bowl this year it will be due to other safeties sucking. if he leads the league in Ints this year it will be due to QBs throwing his way to much.

No need to worry, none of those things will happen, I guarantee it. He was a bad draft pick, as was Artie Burnt.

Didn't he lead the team in missed tackles too? And drop more interceptions that he caught? The Steelers rookie of the year often means a player had a chance to play a lot as a rookie and the others didn't. We've had punter win Joe Greene rookie of the year award.

All I ask he stops missing tackles 17+ tackles a season and makes a few plays while surrendering less yardage. Is that too much to ask? His coverage is poor. Davis allows to much space; the receiver catches it, then he closes on the ball.

In all actuality, Atholon's thinks Davis is a lot better than some other magazine and 3rd party rating systems. For example pro football focus has him much further back.

how many Steeler games do you watch? pats and Steelers typically both play at 1pm so you probs only watch Steelers on sun/mon nights or when pats play Steelers

Not surprising. It will take a herculean effort for the defensive backfield to accomplish significant improvement. Thank God for the pass rush.

Migas when I make it I always fry the corn tortillas cut into 1 inch strips in oil first so they are extra crunchy, then I remove them cook the eggs and add the pico the last 30 seconds with the tortillas. Sometimes I like to add precooked chorizo.

Unless you’ve visited or lived in the Southwest, you probably haven’t heard of Migas, a delightfully flavorful scrambled egg dish made fabulous with the addition of bell peppers, jalapenos, onions, cheese, and—the best part—fried, chopped corn tortillas. The corn tortillas absolutely make the dish, and while some more, ahem, “health conscious” eaters elect simply to warm or grill the tortillas prior to adding them to the skillet, I find they’re best when fried in oil, then chopped. Once they’re stirred into the egg mixture, they soften and take on the beautiful flavors of the eggs, onions, and peppers. It’s enough to make a person moan, which is what you’ll do as soon as you sink your teeth into this wonderful breakfast dish.

Coach giving advice. I am not the put on ignore type. I am the you know where I stand type for better or worse. No worries the back n forth's won't last too long, imagine the Patriot puffs days are numbered. In the meantime I tell you what you can do if the back n forth's rattle you. You can just ignore it.[emoji3]

Is he a Patriots fan? Proof? The back and forth stuff becomes a problem when its the majority of the page in thread. That's what I'm saying. I do agree with you, his days are numbered.

If the mods followed and enforced the rules on personal attacks, we's have less of it and the board would be better off.

How about some sources. Burns won't be on this team for long...and he was never a sub 4.4 guy. Try 4.46

Haden is not fast. Over 4.5 Nelson is not fast. 4.49 was his best time at the combine, and that was a while a ago. Layne was a 4.5 guy. If you want to throw in Hilton, he isn't fast either.

If you're going to quote numbers sources first, then you'll be more accurate. Yes you are confused. Research it for yourself, then comment. The 2nd reply from you will be interesting.

As for our WR's, 3 of our top 4 guys are 4.5+ types. Only Moncreif has what I would call good speed for his position.

Not trying to to clown you or anyone else here...just calling it as it is.

So, you want us to find the 40 times of each player???

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

In other words, you know I'm right and can't respond with factual 40 yard dash times. You made several errors Bermuda. I hope you're happy playing in the pink sand where people won't call you out on BS.

The way I see it the trolls can be thankful the mods are lenient. Give them praise.

40 times: AB? Not fast. Ward? Not Fast. Jerry Rice? Not fast. WTF really do 40 times mean coach? JuJu. Not fast. On the field? all of them fast enough.

Jerry rice 4.71 40 but in Sunday Ronnie Lott said he ran 4.2 with pads on. 40 time means nothing with shirts and track shoes. Go ahead and take the fastest 40 time guy from each year then look how great they never became.

The Ismail brothers should be on this list too...

We'll see his 'allegiance' Game 1 this year. Can't wait to see his posts in the Game Day thread (if he's still here)...

Again - 40 times DO NOT MATTER ON THE GAME FIELD. This is a TEAM SPORT and when you put the players in the right position (and they execute) SPEED IS A LUXURY, but POSITIONING IS KEY.

I befuddles me that you claim to be a football coach.

Ask Al Davis how well his 'speed choices' worked out for the Raiders' organization. Too much speed and no strategy is STUPID.

Done talking now...

And Coach, does Google.com not work on your 'puter??? You always want us to do the research to prove your asinine comments are wrong. I suggest you get another search engine...

If speed doesn't matter why do NFL coaches/scouts/front offices care about it so much? You are being obtuse. Is it the ONLY thing that is important? No. Is it crucial at certain positions like WR, CB, S, LB, edge, RB? Of course.
