Sutton shows off football IQ

Coach?

He is annoying from time to time.

Him too, but i was referring to Bud Dupree.

I wont go into threads repeating low football IQ, but i do think he is just bad.

For the money.,, for the pick,, for the performances. Look at his stats from last game. Everyone wants to give him a pass due to the sack. . Ok whatever. doesnt take away from the fact he is performing below the line,,, consistently.

to me he is a glaring weak link in this defense. And with Shazier out , It will become more evident.

The respective tackle is just riding him on past the play, why doesn't Bud throw in a stop and spin move, or a tag fade then plow???
There are a lot of moves to get him freed up but he needs to incorporate them into his reportage. Mr. Watt has more than one move
and Bud Dupree should have more than one too !!!!!!!!

Isnt that what i said play him like a true DE and let him rush with no coverage responsibility

You said

Harrison hasnt played because he cant do what the Steelers are asking their OLB to do
.

The Steelers let their OLB's rush the passer to from an end position.

So unless there is a scheme change where he is used as true DE and strictly rushes Chickillo might still play ahead of him though he will get a hat now with Shaziers injury and Moats moving inside to help there.

The Steelers use Watt and Dupree as ends on likely passing downs, why not Harrison?

But hats of to Mr. KEVIN COLBERT. Watt, Ju-Ju, and what appear to be solid third round picks in Conner and Sutton. Very impressive.

See you dont watch games because the OLBs dont always rush on passing downs. Both have been dropping in coverage on all downs. So AGAIN unless they go to a true 4 man front and the DE is strictly rushing Harrison may not play. The versatility of Dupree and Watt being able to drop is helping diguise what the defense is doing.

Dupree estimated for me that he’s been required to drop back into pass coverage “probably about 75 percent of the time,” and I had that figure independently corroborated by our Christopher Carter, whose season-long film study found the same rate.

“It’s a different role for me, something I hadn’t done in college,” Dupree said. “But I’m OK with it. I need to help the team win. It’s just so great, actually, to be part of all this winning. And I know the coaches see my effort. The coaches see what I’m doing, and they appreciate it. I’m just going to continue to work to get better.”

Dupree’s primary assignment in pass coverage has been the tight end. And to that end, the results are … if not crystal clear because of all the other people involved in coverage, at least compelling: Opposing tight ends have been targeted 79 times for 44 catches, 482 yards — an average of just 43.8 yards per game — and just two touchdowns.

That’s the eighth-fewest yards allowed to tight ends by any NFL defense, and it’s the third-fewest touchdowns.

Stay on narrative, your drifting away into facts and such

Harrison hasnt played because he cant do what the Steelers are asking their OLB to do. Which is also cover. Watt and Dupree allow the defense to disguise their defenses. He cant get the depth those two are able to get in zone coverage and he definitely cant play man to man on any backs or TEs. **** Watt has covered some WRs. Thats why Harrison hasnt been playing. So unless there is a scheme change where he is used as true DE and strictly rushes Chickillo might still play ahead of him though he will get a hat now with Shaziers injury and Moats moving inside to help there. Williams 7 sacks are due to offenses not knowing who is coming. Because they dont know if Watt and Dupree are rushing or dropping.

Then why sign him! Wouldn’t it have been a better move to sign a veteran this past summer that you felt comfortable coming off the bench?
I get all the sentimental feelings that come with James and he surely has earned it, but your not comfortable playing the man then this was a bad signing for the team and isn’t fair to James.

Because of injuries..and secondly they didnt expect Watt to be so good so fast and be able to do the things he has been able to do.. Watts versatility has enabled the steelers to be multi dimensional in their blitzes and coverages. Same for Dupree.. Teams dont know what we are doing, who's coming who's dropping. Its one of the reasons Willaims has a career high in sacks.

They signed him to keep the Ravens or Patriots from grabbing him. #92 does nothing but produce sacks and stuff runs. Hmmmm. Something we need? IDK. Talent management isn’t out coaching staffs strong suit.

Point exactly! I would think the prudent move is to sign a veteran you will not hesitate to insert in the lineup. Whether it be a rookie who has played better than expected, possible injuries, etc. The coach is apparently not comfortable with him in any circumstance in light of James being involved in a whopping 29 snaps throughout 10 games.
The man himself recently said had he known this he would have signed elsewhere.

Then that vet would be sitting too..if his name wasnt James Harrison would anyone be up in arms about him not playing. The team is top 5 in defense 2nd in sacks with the guys who are playing..so again people are only bitching because of the name sitting..

All those stats youre talking about antdrew, are about to change. Big time. No Shazier. Sorry the guy was All -pro and the plan is to replace him with either a a rookie watt,, a serviceable yeoman moats). I don't know the impact of the sacks or pressure on the QB, but shazier is so good, he enables everyone else to do more.

Healthy Harrison needs to come off the bench now. He can contribute. Hes in great shape. He isn't tired. The loss of Shazier will be felt . Steelers need all hands on deck to make up for it.

I know hes probably lost a step. I would be wanting that other vet playing too. Especially in light of some of the play of our other OLB's.

Missing my point. When they need a break or now playing well, why not let Harrison get a chance to rush the passer? Its a Tomlin issue. Stated differently I think Harrison could seal the edge and play the run better than Dupree, and add something to the pass rush.

If healthy give man a hat and 10-15 snaps a game.

Because with the defense they are playing who rushes is dictated by formation. So again unless they go to true four man front you will continue to see Moats and Chickillo play before Harrison

Im not talking about them i just post them to hopefully provide clarity. Dupree is contributing to the defense. I remember alot of anger about TEs killing us. Dupree has been instrumental in stopping that.

Point not well taken! I have no horse in this race.
What I’m trying to get across is why sign him or even keep him for that matter. You’re not going to play him. You’re going to tell us that there was not one guy we could have brought in that couldn’t have at least made a contribution to even ST? Sign your best 53 and if Harrison isn’t among those, don’t waste the ink.
Harrison is pissed and feels like why did they sign me if I can’t get in even in relief. I don’t blame him.

No one is questioning whether James should start and that this defense is a top 5 without him. We get it! But now we need some help from the reserves and you can’t have him contribute anywhere on this defense?

Where exactly are we hurting at OLB?? And just because he isnt playing doesnt mean he hasnt provided something valuable to the team. He is still a leader in the locker room. A vet in the meeting rooms. An inspiration to players in the weight room..

I’m done! You have an opinion a
and so do I. No worries!
I sure as hell wouldn’t be the one to tell James we brought you back to inspire the young guys in the weight room. Oh well!
