If a poll were taken before the first preseason game for who the biggest rookie standout would be, it is very likely Mason Rudolph or Terrell Edmunds would have come out on top. It is also very likely Damoun Patterson would not have been featured in that poll. As a Steelers fan it is not […]

Patterson was outstanding.

Right now, Eli Rodgers, DHB, and Justin Hunter should be VERY worried.

Will take this all day anyday.

I think teams like Cleveland will be watching to see who the Steelers cut.

Was fun seeing a player that wanted to make plays.

Loved his college highlight tape at Youngstown State. He played in a heavy run first offense but made greta plays downfield and was a good blocker. Guy has much more upside than mediocre to poor players in Hunter, DHB and Rogers.

To me even if he plays ok in the next few games he should make it. Frankly, Hunter, Rogers have no upside. As much of a special teams leader/ good in the community guy DHB is lets face it. He is an Arthur Moats player. You might as well take the guy with big hills and valleys. If he figures out the valleys he could be something.

I'd think Rogers is the most likely to be losing his spot. Remember, Rogers just signed after tearing his knee up last season.
This was just one preseason game, so we should temper our expectations some. Remember last pre-season, Hunter was doing well against vanilla "UPS-driver paper or plastic" defense

Cope, I've seen a lot of things and nothing surprises me, even you not being surprised doesn't surprise me.
Just letting you know that surprising fact about me.

If the kid keeps it up during pre-season he's definitely a keeper. 6-2 and has run a 40 as low as 4.42, aggressive and fights for the ball. One of those talented small school receivers the Steelers like. Liking what I see so far.

I know he's good on special teams, and reportedly "a good guy in the locker room," but keeping Heyward-Bey is a luxury at this point.

As was discussed on Pittsburgh radio last night and today, his and Matakevich's spots - and even Chickillo's - should be up for grabs.

I agree on all 3 spots. I love Chickillo but his training cam phenom status does not translate to the actual games and he is just a guy.

Funny enough, DHB now has the worst hands on the team. He's not terrible, and was always above former receivers like Cobi Hamilton, Sammie Coates, and Martavious Bryant. But now that they're all gone, he's the one dropping passes, and there's no other receivers making him look better.

DHBs only chance to make the roster is special teams. I'm surprised with his top end speed, that he never became a returner, but it has to be due to his questionable hands.

He is going to have a much tougher time fending off Patterson, Tucker, and even Henderson when these younger players are showing how good they can catch.

I think you've got to probably keep DHB, and especially Matekevich because of their special teams value. They're the two consistent performers on an otherwise below average squad (not count Boz of course). Rodgers I think is the odd man out.

I'll never understand the fascination with Chickillo, he's just a guy out there. He could be EASILY replaced with better talent.

Cope, would it be incredulous that Eli gets put on the PUP list and sits out the first 6 games? There by having a player who knows the system and is then available if someone gets hurt during that time?

I could be wrong but I think you want to use I instead of it. But I am no English major. (I actually spoke German first) (And still don't write either accurately all the time lol)

But no reason to doubt it, when it very well could happen reasonably.

That might have to do with more what these rookie WRs can do consistently , and less what Eli is doing physically.

Lol...thanks Slash, keying to fast to include “to think”. It’s just curious how the PUP is used by teams. I wasn’t sure if it was too late to use it since camp already started.

I thought you had to pull them off the PUP a certain date to avoid it carrying over to the regular season?

someone can chime in on this if known..
