NFLN has been hyping this, and I am looking forward to seeing it, but my question is this....

How has this been lost? TV was in its toddler stage. The game was carried by 2 networks! How has this been so hard to find? If we have the 1955 broeadcast of Colts Giants, how was this not clearly kept for posterity.

When is it, I would like to watch as well? As to how it is, there wasn't a great concern about keeping stuff like that, just by way of example, only 33 episodes of the tonight show with Johnny Carson exist from 1962-1972 survived due to the rest being erased by NBC.

I've studied that game a lot over the years. Can't wait to see Max McGee's hungover, bobbling TDs in real-time.

I absolutely love watching the old games on Youtube that even show the old commercials with the original broadcast... Really takes me back

What I would like to know is who is uploading those old games with the commercials?
It ant like people had VCR's in 1972. I've watched Super Bowls V, VII, IX, X,XI, & XII... all with original commercials. I was a kid growing up in the 70's and I seem to remember VCR's didn't come out until the later part of the decade. Not only that, they were like $1500 so I don't think the average football fan could even afford one. $1500 was like 2 months pay back then ... Lol

Its great that it seems more and more get added everytime I look.

This also gives eveyone the chance to see the 70s steelers. The younger folk can see what real tough guy football was all about, and the older fans can see they made some terrible decisions and plays as well. Those highlight reel shows tend to make our memory very selective.

My thoughts too. Did someone get bootleg copies of the official NFL film/tape?

More than likely a tech from a local TV Station WIIC or WSTV made a copy of the live broadcast and it eventually got circulated. With the cost of VCR's at the time a TV station would have access to that equipment.

Same here. While the games were not always as exciting, the broadcasts voices were much better than what we have today. I also think the execution of the running plays were a bit better, and it had to be due to the rules which allowed receivers to be mugged and mostly inferior passing skills of the QB's.

It's a pity the Vikings blew that kick this weekend. That game was ready to go directly to ESPN classic. The wrong team won in the cold.

I love watching the old stuff. It's amazing to see how different the game was, not just the rules, but the style of play and the formations teams ran.

When did the NFL have it right? A good question. Perhaps the 1990's as it had modern rules, 16 games, and fewer BS flags and safety issues.

A kickoff used to be a nice play. Now they suck #, kickoff 5 yards back where they used to!
