Su'a Cravens anyone?

Next year will be interesting in the secondary to see who gets a hat each week - assuming guys are healthy. We have some young guys that lost their rookie seasons due to injuries and should have an advantage over anyone picked this year. Plus, Golden will be in the mix for playing time at safety. He looked good at times this year and is very young also.

Dumb as I am, Gay may not be back????? This coming season???

Salute the nation

Keanu Neal (S-Florida) will be a HAMMER at Safety... He's decent in coverage and is the hardest hitting safety I've seen at Florida since Jarvis Williams. Not sure if the Steelers will want to take a Safety that high, but the kid is going to be a good one. I like Su'a, but would rather have Kendall Fuller (CB-VaTech) in the 1st round.

I think this hits home the idea of "not many."

It also makes the point that the ones that made it are some of the best ever to play the position. The reason there aren't many at that height is most are made into receivers. Doesn't mean the Clemson kid can't be good because he is tall.

You could always try Grant at Safety, or Gay? I know Gay is one of our better cb's, but with his limited speed he may, eventually, be a good FS. Mitchell can play both ss and fs

I know it seems a little semetrical with Troy being from USC and all, but a few mocks have us taking him.

Anyone got a good scout on him?

There's a lot to like about him. He's from USC ( A school known for producing good NFL DB's ) and has excellent stats. See below:

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/sua-cravens-1.html

That's high round one production!

My one worry is I want to see him work out. He's a little heavy for a DB. They list him at 225 pounds. Very few NFL DB's can play over that weight. Craven will need to show good agility and flexibility at the NFL level for coverage in addition to enough speed to be trusted in coverage.

So his 20 yard shuffle time, cone drills, and 10 and 40 yard times are very important.

20-yard shuttle ( change of direction drill ) should be better than 4.4. 40 yards needs to be at least 4.54 The numbers I listed are borderline round one numbers for a saftey.

Then again if he aces these drill's we'll never see him at pick #25.

But heck yes I like him!

I read he Craven only wants to play OLB. If he was open to playing any position and didn't make that statement I'd be more interested but if he is set at playing OLB and we draft him for SS who knows if he even tries and ends up being a bust.

The guy I like is Karl Joseph from WVU. Probably not on too many radars as a top guy but he hits like a truck, can play the pass, and blitzes and stops the run.

And he's too small to play 3-4 OLB. He'd get eaten alive by left tackles in the NFL trying to be a pure edge rusher in our system. He needs a 4-3 pass rush end in front of him, so he can attack TEs and HBs in blitz pickup. It could work, but that makes him useless to us as a draft pick.

Hopefully we can convince him to stay at SS by selling him on the fact that Troy became a Hall of Famer at that position.

Golson projects to play inside in the nickel and dime and not outside. Maybe he will get a shot to play outside but in his first year I would bet against it. I definitely see us taking some DBs in this draft, but I also would like to see us find another UFA to come in and play there as well. Can't just hope a draft pick is going to get the job done.

Walter has us taking an OT in the first with both Fuller and Alexander on the board....it is Taylor Decker. Don't know anything about him, but I'd hope he comes with a Lombardi already shoved up his ***.

Thompson, S, Boise State in the second.

Campbell from the same site has Tre'Davious White in the first (not declared yet?) in the first with Canady in the second.

That is an assumption based on Golson's height, one that doesn't reflect his draft position, and is unfair at any rate.

Scouting report says the ONLY reason this guy wasn't a top 15 pick is because of his height. I think he can start outside.

No, it is based on what Colbert, Tomlin and Lake all said after they drafted the guy. Im not saying he couldn't eventually be the #1 or #2 CB and start on the outside, but as far as next year i wouldn't expect more than what the coaching staff has stated previously, especially given how they (under) utilized Boykin this year.

I'd much rather draft a S in the first round than a CB (assuming equal value available at our draft position)

And I'd much rather draft a FS and move Mitchell to SS

I actually don't think we're as bad off at CB as we think. We just had Blake playing far too many snaps and getting burned like it was his job. Boink and Gay played above the line, Cockrell below but better than Blake, and Blake just terrible. With Golson entering the fold, I think he has a chance to lock down one of the outside spots. I just sincerely hope we bring Boink and Gay both back, although I doubt it actually happens

Blake and Allen are both a waste of roster spots. God damned shame that Allen flashed some talent and then went to ****. We were much better off paying Keenan Lewis than Allen. Now we've got to throw draft picks at the position and hope someone sticks. They'll still sign one or two guys to come in and try to win a spot.

I'm going to beat this drum loud if Foster is not brought back and I'm not advocating bringing him back unless its a team friendly deal. Foster walks, most important position of need just switched to LG and that's where my $$ is for round 1. You draft a LG and hope he can become your next Faneca to go with a healthy Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert (who had a good year besides that facemask that cost us scoring position) and I bring back Villanueva to play LT. Beachum is not a guy I want to put a big contract out there for.

There's nothing I enjoy more than pre-draft cornerback & safety talk. Going through all the high pedigree guys; the taller, more athletic DB's with all the measurables. Each and every year I short-list the players I hope the Steelers are keying on and get my hopes up.

Then the draft rolls around and of course they'll pick some 5-9 player none of us ever talked about, or even mentioned in these threads. But the dream never dies, that one of these years we'll get it right with a corner or safety prospect. :)
