Steven Nelson on the trade block, wtf?

Let the media spin this. We re-signed Sutton for a reason!

Can we now agree that spending money to keep Ben made no sense, at all?

Why? To go 7-9 instead of 4-12?

Go 4-12, get out of cap hell in 2022, get a great draft spot, and return to dominance in 2022.

we only would've saved an extra 4 million if Ben didn't come back.
 
Probably nelson wanted an extension and couldn't agree on terms with the front office and Steelers decided to get some value from him rather than lose him next season

Wow! What’s this crap all about Steven Nelson! Coryea probably correct with refused pay cut or extension. He had a really good 2019 season but last year was not nearly as good. What can we get for him?
 
Sucks, this era of the NFL you need 3 good CB's, we lose Nelson, we have Haden, Sutton, Layne, and St. Pierre or whatever his name is.
This is probably our best CB duo since Woodson played.
 
Now that sucks. With Haden declining, he was our best CB and I was expecting them to extend him. They probably won't get any better than a 3rd for him, not with his cap hit. That sucks. The Steelers can't draft CB's to save their lives. If he goes, who the **** do we even have. An aging and slowing Haden and Sutton who really isn't a starting 2 CB. This will hurt bad. Hopefully, they can find a FA that can start.
 
Gonna have to hope Haden doesn't lose a step and can stay healthy this year. Not sure what we will get in a trade for Nelson. R3-5? Really hard to say.

A good portion of Nelson's cap hit is dead money which only effects the Steelers, his base salary is around 8 million which wouldn't be a problem with any trading partners. Plus any trade would likely involve a new contract so we should do better than a 3rd if a trade happens.
 
The only comfort I can find in losing him, is thinking of the ****** game he had against Diggs & the Bills. Other than that, he was pretty solid over two seasons, finally stablizing our secondary. So I'll just focus on that Bills game some more...

The Steelers apparently told him he could seak a trade. If no trade, they will cut him to save $7 million per the PG. This makes little sense to let him go and keep Haden. Haden has one huge cap hit and year left here and then is probably done. Unless they plan to extend Haden. If either were to be cut, you would figure it would have been Haden - although I'm not a huge Nelson fan. ****, if Haden gets hurt this year, we have no real legit starting CB. Sutton is a nickel or dime or backup on the outside. Damn! Since it is out there they will cut him, we'll be lucky to get even a 5th for him. This sucks.
 
so I guess we are trading/cutting Nelson to sign JuJu...sure makes no sense to me
 
Yeah it sounds as if its nelson driving this....
it could be the new db coach not sitting well with him or he could legitimately be chasing a championship....
 
Nelson isn’t really looking to stack another 8-8 season in his resume, it’s crazy but maybe he wants to do something in the playoffs?
