Steelers were going to sign Fred Jackson

I read that yesterday - I think we got the better of the two veteran runners in Williams...but, before Vader has a fit about "hindsight" - let me say, "it is MY OPINION" that we got the better of the two veteran RB's...

I should pay rent for living in your head so much.

So far so good with Williams. He looks rejuvenated here in Pittsburgh. Of course the 15 pounds he lost didn't hurt. Lets go DeAngelo.

RB is a position you can find high end value at late in the draft or even undrafted. There is no real excuse for not having a high quality backup ready by now. signing 30+ year old vets is a terribad idea at this position. you may luck into a guy, but for the most part they are washed up by then. Seriously, since Fast Willie, how many quality backs have we found late? Dwyer was ok, I guess... Mendy and Bell were premium picks... who am I missing?

No one...

Im not sure if we just cant find Talent, or just cant develop it... our RB position has not been the same since Hoak retired

I have a hard time answering this as well. When you look some of our drafts recently, there have been a lot of picks that were well received by the experts, but never panned out in terms of development. Then again, we've had those picks that you knew were bad from the instant their name was called.

We've also had our Antonio Browns, Beachums, Vince Williamses ... Guys that we all thought were camp fodder who have developed quite nicely. I'll say it again, some of the development process is on the players themselves. Brown, Beachum and Williams were determined to put in the work to succeed as NFL players. Note I did not say "Stars" as only AB fits that description.

Brown and Brown are the best two players that this regime has drafted. The problem is none of the first-round picks have been remotely close to this quality. You have some good-very good players (Timmons, Pouncey, Heyward, DeCastro), some average-below average players (Mendenhall, Hood) and some still unknowns (Jones, Shazier, Dupree). The only player that I consider potentially great in that group is Pouncey. At some point you need your top picks to be the guys carrying your team. Obviously more leeway with the later draft picks, but our lack of depth illustrates poor drafting/developing in that area as well.

I guess Bell hasn't impressed you?

Take stuff out of context much? read the rest of the thread...
