Steelers vs. Raiders - Week 3 Game Day Thread

This ^^ When the defense has 7 or 8 in the box, and the offense has just 6 guys to block, a running play is doomed to failure. In that format, either Pickens or Austin III or likely both are single covered. Send one Austin on a short crossing pattern that takes very little time to run, Kenny gets the ball out fast, Austin now is running in the secondary with maybe one defender available to bring him down.

Punish teams for putting 8 in the box. Stop ******* running up the A-gap and expecting Najee Harris to break 11 tackles to gain 4 yards.
Or a quick hitter to, wait for it..... one of our good TE's. Muth or Washington could easily get right behind the bunch of Defenders at the line and have field day. I guess that simple concept is far too complex for Crayon boy.

The TE's are far too good to be ignored in the passing game like they have been so far, but my concern is that if you send the TE out on a pattern, that leaves 5 guys to block 7 or 8 defenders. Knowing Cana-DUH, he will have the TE run a fly pattern that takes 4 seconds to develop, guaranteeing Kenny gets hammered.

For whatever reason the play mix with Warren in is a whole lot more well, mixed. With Najee it is almost always run and they never seem to throw to him anymore. I just don't understand why the **** the bed so badly in using Najee. It's like they forget what he did in the passing game his rookie year. It would be huge in loosening up the stacked defenses.
Over 60 receptions and he caught that huge sideline TD from KP to win the Rats game at the end of last year. You need to get him in space so he can run over guys with a head of steam and they aren't doing it. His runs are almost always against an 8+ man front and/or a run blitz.

The only quick passes he seems to call are to the sideline. Look what happens when we throw quick passes over the middle. Can't wait for this bozo to be gone. I like Tomlin but if he doesn't make a change I will be less of a supporter.

Pickett is more accurate over the middle of the field. Think about the strike to Sims against Baltimore last year, the laser to Pickens to beat the Raiders, the multiple strikes last night.

This makes perfect sense since passes to the sidelines take much longer to get to the target. Kenny has a good arm, but not elite arm strength. ******* Cana-DUH should be punched in the face until he alters the passing approach to focus on passes over the middle of the field - crossing routes to Pickens and Austin, passes to his two massive TE's.

On second thought, Cana-DUH should be punched in the face then fired and the new OC should implement the better passing attack.

You had me at punched in the face.

Another thing. Broadcast showed Cana-DUH in the booth on Steelers penultimate possession in the 4th quarter (the one before the kneel-down). He was so nervous he was visibly shaking.

I don't want the people in charge shaking like some guy called in from the parking lot to make the decisions. The leaders should look like the calmest people in the stadium in that situation. Seriously, does Andy Reid look nervous when calling plays? Hungry, sure, but nervous?

And therein lies the problem. Not Najee v Warren. Just bad blocking.

At what point does Pat Meyer get some of the blame placed on him? Two years straight we’ve brought in starting-caliber OL (Cole, Daniels, Seumalo), gotten rid of the worst Steelers OL (Green) since ever, and 3 games in to a new season with a #1 OT sitting on the bench, our OL, which was thought to be one of the most improved units going into the new season, has struggled greatly. Is Meyer just as much to blame as Canada for our woes on offense? Can he not get these guys to put fundamentals and their talents to use in a cohesive way? Despite Canada’s propensity to glean much of his knowledge from the “offensive play calling for dummies” book, perhaps Meyer isn’t up to the job either?

I think Meyer's blocking techniques/system don't work well with either of our top 2 RBs in that it has our OL "thinking/reacting" before responding ... This takes time; and that time is what is allowing DL to stop up any holes that might have been there for our backs. Also, it is a "one size fits all" scheme. Listening to Foster earlier in the year and he said one of the things that was great about Munch was that, as much as possible, he took your individual playing/blocking style into account and coached you up on how you could refine and improve your style and still get the results that the playbook called for.
