Steelers acquired TE Vance McDonald and a fifth-round pick from the 49ers in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

The 49ers seemed content to stick with McDonald after attempting to trade him this offseason, but they are essentially giving him away for free. It is a great move for the Steelers, who lacked real weapons at the position. It will take him some time to settle in, but McDonald should push Jesse James for targets at some point this season.

The guy can fly....not a bad deal at all.
 
Well after that Green debacle, I would have thought they would be gun shy. And while he hasn't shown so well this pre-season, I thought James did well enough last year.
 
Last year he had 24 catches for 391 yards 4TDs and a 16.3 average
JJ last year had 39 catches for 338 yards 3TDs and a 8.7 average

Vance McDonald has dropped 15.8% of his catchable targets in his career, highest among qualifying TEs in that time frame. #49ers #Steelers
 
I like it! Vance would've easily scored a TD against the Patriots when James got tackled at the goaline. James is a very mediocre TE.

keep in mind our TE's have been prone to dropping passes as well.Thing is 49ers have a ****** QB situation, so he had somewhat of a small excuse.........

a former 2nd round pick and gave up nothing for him. Maybe he can live up to his pedigree and click with Ben. Nice size and potential speed, but apparently can't catch a cold.
 
Great pick up. He is a threat in the open field and will be our #1 TE immediately.

had more TDs last year than Jesse James.....
 
If the Steelers do well and pick at the end part of the 4th and if the '9ers do what they normally do and suck they should pick early 5th. Meaning we got a decent TE for a few spots in the 2018 draft between our 4th and their 5th.
