The Pittsburgh Steelers made the huge decision to part ways with safety Minkah Fitzpatrick when they traded him to the Miami Dolphins. In return, the Steelers received two Pro Bowl players in tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, a bold move by General Manager Omar Khan. While the trade brought star talent to Pittsburgh, it also raised immediate concerns about the future of the safety position.

It will be interesting to see what the contract is. Probably not a break the bank deal…

At least it addresses the depth

Might be the vet minimum. Regardless he is the much needed FS depth.

Omar isn’t sitting on his hands.

Maybe a cut down WR? Or a vet T?

Probably not glaring needs but would help solidify depth.

I think another versatile backup oline guy who can play tackle, but also guard in a pinch is critical, even before Seumalo’s injury.

It’s entirely in the realm of possibility that one of our young starting tackles needs to be spelled by a vet for a variety of reasons

I don't care if Killebrew is second coming of Steve Tasker. If he doesn't have ability to be depth at two safety positions at this point........send the Turk to his room.

Coach Tomlin is comfortable with guys like Killebrew, he’s here for this year. I’m not sure how long his contract is for but I think he will be here till it expires.

I hear what you are saying, earlier in FA, there had to be better and I’d think near same cost.

Salute the nation

That would be undervaluing special teams.

They can help a team get over the hump here and there…

When the goal are Tomlinships guys like Killebrew are essential.

The conservative Tomcepts the Steelers operate under aim to keep games close. A block punt or kick can swing the entire game when the margin of error is razor thin.

Killebrew has been a valuable contributor to past Tomlinships for his blocking acumen and should be recognized as the champion he is…

You sir are correct, STs are quite necessary to get over the hump

Can never be at expense of ability to play a position in a viable way. Not worth it.
That is where you have to have capable talent. They all have their purpose, you have crappy STs it can cost you a game here and there.

If the unit as whole is bad yes. Killers probably makes a few extra tackles sone wouldn't. To me that does not justify someone that you clearly have very little faith as a reasonable back up for half a season or so. The guys been with team for at least 4 seasons.

I am with the philosophy you keep your best players. That includes their best special teams players. If he is a part of that I see no reason not to keep him.

Fair. I'm of mind that players play. If it's kind of a tie......special teams breaks that. But not many guys who are better positional players can't tackle. They are all fast. Skoronek was a better sp. Teamer then Killebrew last year.

bubble player like jr heyward and WR/kr Patterson are more on the cliff as well as Killerbrew esp if they want Kirk, Davis or Cooper or trade for Aiyuk or Terry

No way Patterson should make 53. None. And every year you draft new guys. Guys like Heyward got his few years of essentially a roster exemption. But there is a new crop of that. So show you have key depth ability/consistent flashes in games or goodbye.

I like this signing. Nothing splashy but a guy who knows AFC North ball and isn't afraid to tackle. Solid depth signing for sure. Hopefully he's fully recovered from his ACL from last season.
