By Brandon Wallace SteelerNation.com PITTSBURGH, PA – “Amazing progress” are the words of Pittsburgh Steelers‘ president, Art Rooney II*regarding linebacker*Ryan Shazier.*Shazier (26), who suffered the widely known spinal injury in 2017 against the Cincinnati Bengals, stated that his “dream” was to once again play football, and everyday is looking more and more promising for him. Nice gesture by Art II but I just don’t see him playing again but I admire Ryan’s determination and perseverance and would be a great story if he can come back.

At last, something positive!

I am never one to shatter someones dreams, but even in our wildest imagination that the could, he shouldn't.

Just the same probably as said just a nice gesture.

I believe this is a case of the Steelers doing the classy thing and basically pay him to rehab and/or work out since he was hurt playing. He’ll be placed on the IR and collect a check. It won’t affect our roster space. It’s a win all around. I’d love to see him on the field again, and I hope I get to.

Isn't it a little selfish wanting to see him play again? I would rather see him live a long healthy life.

Classy move by the Steelers. Football is a business, but it is a business based on people and the Steelers are showing that with Shazier.

Yeah, I don’t want to see him jeopardize his long term health for football, that’s foolish. He’s made some money, he’s able to walk again and hold and play with his kids. Sure, would be great story if he could play again but just don’t see it and just don’t want to see him risk his long term health. Besides, he’s never going to be cleared medically to return. Especially the position he plays, I can’t see him being cleared.
Art II is keeping him as part of the team and hopefully a coaching internship with the Steelers will come into play.

this is a great move by steelers…. he will never play again but he will always be a steeler

Excellent move by the STEELERS and this reminds me of the many a many things over the years the CLASS of the NFL STEELERS have done for the "human" side of things. Always best of luck to Ryan and the STEELERS.

My thinking is if that’s his driving force to get back to a normal life, cool. If it comes to the point he truly wants to play I’m sure he’s going to have to pass with the Doctors first, and if they say no go, at least he was able to push hard to get back to close to normal safe life as possible. He seems like a genuinely good dude.

If he can get back into playing condition and the doctors clear him, why shouldn't he play? Big ifs, but I wish him the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do.

If he does play again, and I do not think he should, he better learn how to tackle. He may not get up the next time he leads with his head.

I heard somewhere that it was tricky to pay an "active" player as an assistant or whatever. This was probably the easiest way around it while keeping Ryan happy. Still a classy move

The smart move is to sign him as a coach, so he doesn't count against the cap. Then when he's ready to play, fire him and activate him as a player. Win win...

I don't think so. I would like to see him to play again only because HE wants to play again.

Even though Shazier understands our intentions are good, I bet he'd get a little peeved of SN constantly telling him he shouldn't or will never be able to play again.

I want whatever he wants. He's a grown man and can make his own choices. People decide to put on uniforms of all kinds and go to work every day knowing there is a chance they won't come home, and none of them make anywhere NEAR what a pro football player does. I'm a little passionate about this topic because I both ride a motorcycle and bicycle on the roads here and I've heard all kinds of "that's so risky" etc. All I can tell you is if you love doing something, you're willing to take a risk to do it, period, and no one has a right to tell you that you shouldn't love doing it, or want to do it. So, no, it's not selfish wanting to see him play again, as long as HE wants to play again. If he doesn't, I hope he never takes the field again and lives a long and healthy life.

The anti AB

Well if for some crazy chance he ever could play again he could be the voice the Steelers have desperately needed in the locker room and field - he instantly becomes the team voice. Can you imagine how ******* fired up the team would be with him doing the pregame speech? Jesus I'd hate to be the opposing offense on their first drive. Heinz Field would need to give out tissues

l;et him re hab and practiocte wit the team what he can rest help young LB's and once camp starts put him on IR, he can start running and get clearance for contact by next year then same deal.
