Welcome to the Steelers, Mr. Davis - BLOW 'EM UP!!!

Woo hoo, another D from the pricks at PFF. **** these guys, our secondary is gonna rock! I'm starting to lose all respect for this site, they seem to be so out of it. Their focus on analytics and blind faith in their fancy formulas has led them down the rabbit hole. Clearly the Steelers view Davis as a safety next to Mitchell.

27 (58). Pittsburgh Steelers: Sean Davis | Grade: D

And yet another size/speed pick, Davis has played both cornerback and safety for Maryland with mixed results. His -3.6 overall grade in 2015 ranked 96th among cornerbacks including a -6.7 coverage grade that ranked 112th. The Steelers may see if he can stick at cornerback, and while his movement skills stood out positively when we saw him at the Senior Bowl, the on-field production just hasn’t been there to this point.

Steelers Will Start New DB Sean Davis Off At Strong Safety
http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...ll-start-new-db-sean-davis-off-strong-safety/

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued to address their secondary in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Friday with the selection of Maryland defensive back Sean Davis. After the pick was made, Steelers defensive backs coach Carnell Lake addressed the media to talk about his newest player.

“Really a very productive player at two positions, safety and corner,” said Lake of Davis, who had over 300 total tackles during his college career. “He has been very productive in the tackling department and has a good eye for playing the ball in the passing game and we really look forward to having him in the building. He’s going to provide us with a lot of versatility and depth at a needed position at safety for us, that’s where we plan to play him and I think he’ll do an outstanding job there.”

Lake was asked if Davis is better suited to play strong or free safety and the Steelers defensive backs coach said that while he will start off being used as a strong safety, he will eventually be asked to play both positions.

“Right now, primarily, we should plug him in at strong safety as Mike Mitchell’s primarily our free safety, said Lake. “That’s where we’ll start and I’m assuming that he’ll wind up playing both positions at some point.”

Lake was later asked about Davis’ cover skills.

“His cover skills, in my opinion, are very good,” said Lake. “He’s had a lot of experience not only covering slots and tight ends at safety, but he also played a year at corner which gives him even more experience. You take a player like that who last year played corner that’s going to move in inside to play safety, the game will slow down quite a bit for him inside.”

Davis, who started 40 games at Maryland, recorded 318 total tackles and 5 interceptions in addition to 6 forced fumbles. Lake said that Davis had 36 special teams tackles and that he didn’t take that job lightly.

I know like me you realize profootballfocus is a bunch of amateurs with a website, but this analysis is exactly why I automatically dismiss anyones opinion who seriously quote them as experts, they just don't understand the game. He is not picked as a CB, yet they act like he is.

Hopefully he's not related to Bruce Davis.

you have to be able to pick up man2man with a safety now. on third and long you absolutely have to get off the field. davis can do that.. he needs work no doubt but with three saftey three bd schemes he will come in handy.

Way to go, another good pick.....looks good on paper now get him on the field to produce!

The song for that highlight video sucks as bad as just about any song I've ever heard. Couldn't even watch it.

Does this mean we're finished with Shamarko?

Davis is more of a round there pick. I see a trend. The Steelers are an abandoning their BPA and reaching a little for needs, while at the same timing ignoring an offers to trade down in round one. But the natives are happy.

LOL, force feeding us your narrow-minded POV, as usual. Lake said yesterday Sean Davis was the #1 Safety on their board. You read that right, number one. Artie Burns was a top 4 CB they got at the end of the 1st round. No one knows for sure, but it's likely Burns was ranked above WJIII on their board. Colbert said they were 'fortunate' Burns was available @25. Burns was slotted to be picked 25, 25, 28, 29, 30 by nfl.com draft experts. And based on John Mitchell's comments yesterday, it's clear they identified Hargave early on as a top target to add to their D-line. Not a single reach pick among them.

But keep buying into the fraudulent analysis spoon fed to you by Pro Football Focus. Write it down, looking back at these players in this draft will be what finally bankrupts that site for good.
