steelers select Javon Hargrave DT south Carolina st

damn solid pick........

Why's the thread title say Jacob Hargrave?

LOL....he's a good DT who can get around the corner and had great sack numbers in the FCS. Still, like the other picks in this draft he is raw.

I sure hope one of these 3 pan out....none of these picks have me excited at all.

Sat there for an hour and their pick got taken up talking to ****** Braxton Miller. That is Bullshit.

Thinking same thing! You sit there for so long and expect your teams pick, your teams Walter Paton selected announcer to get the same coverage as the previous 20 some odd picks n then I have to try n decipher from background who Steelers took, cause Myer is BS'ing with one of his boys. ******* scum bags! Same **** with 1st pick, getting cut out because of Broncos Trade?!!! I hope Rich Eison snaps both his knees during his '17 half hour running a 40!!!

Well it's pretty clear Billings is hurt. There are a couple people who's draft analysis I respect. Mayock and TMC being some. TMC had a first round grade on Billings. Doubt he would be that off. Too bad but hopefully Hargrave is the man.

It probably is an injury thing, impossible for tmc or others to know about it

where we are drafting at and with our needs im not complaining. they can all play some now and have some upside. but it is like everyone else is drafting in the round and we seem a round behind. burns should be a middle second round, davis a middle upper third, hargrave a forth. just seems that way... thats what you get for winning

Hargrave was way under the radar for most. Addressed a need at DT, first 3 picks all on the defensive side, I'm good with it. I may be reaching, but the last SC State guy we had was the legendary Donnie Shell......Go Steelers!

They were no reaches, especially Sean Davis

Real talk. We got great value, potential starters, and a ton of size/speed in our secondary. The days of Blake getting roasted over a spitfire 2-3 times per game look to be over. Hargrave fits the new mold of single gap DL that we want now. Penetrators, not space eaters. Dudes with nifty feet that won't get cut blocked like Billings and McCullers. Guys who can get after the QB like Tuitt and Heyward. Hargrave fits that mold nicely.

My issue is that with Shilique Calhoun off the board, there are no more pass rushers to be had, and we have a huge hole on our team wearing #95. Just goes to show how one bad pick can set team back for years at a given position.

Steelers wanted a versatile guy who could play NT, but also be athletic enough to rush the passer and play DE to sub for Heyward and Tuitt. Hargrave can stand up to double teams and has the quickness to rush the passer.

At over 300 lbs, he ran 4.91 in the 40.

The combine measured Edge Speed for pass rushers, which is just how fast you can turn the corner. They measure from the left and the right sides. Most are faster on one side, whichever they are used to lining up at.

Here some edge speed times
Joey Bosa ...........left 2.56 right 2.13
DeForest Buckner left 1.83 right 1.77
Emanuel Ogbah ...left 2.71 right 1.99
Shaq Lawson ...... left 2.15 right 2.12
Noah Spence....... left 1.89 right 1.97

Javon Hargrave..... left 1.80 right 2.04

That's pretty damn impressive for a guy over 300 Lbs
