Steelers safety Sean Davis sued for snapchat video allegedly disparaging Chick-fil-A*

Actual statement from the Trib. Sorry didn’t have the link.

Plaintiff

The family is seeking financial compensation on claims of slander, libel, intentional infliction of emotional distress and cyber bullying. The release from MBK Sports indicated that negotiations before the lawsuit was filed were unsuccessful.

The family claims that those “false and defamatory statements in the video” have caused the teen “severe emotional distress” including humiliation, embarrassment and physical ailments, such as headaches, depression, sleeplessness and anxiety.

The video and Davis' reaction “were made with malice and without any reason to believe that the information conveyed had any basis in truth,” according to the suit.”

It’s serious that the kid got bullied at school, that is something that needs addressed. Davis chose poorly to post whatever he did. Malicious? I doubt it, the 20 somethings nowadays use social media, like kids in the 80s used MTV for their social life.

This thread is useless without the video link...

Newsflash go find something to do besides make up ****. Did you even read the article? Or is that like the games just too much to be expected. Davis mocked how young the guy looked and the service he recieved Hardly mocking the less fortunate

Nice of you to be so sure without video! Look man, if the video was worthless, Davis could sue for slander of character. I'm not seeing that reported, are you?

Nope just seeing he said she said by lawyers

While I dont think Davis was bullying the kid I think it was a stupid thing to do. I can definitely see the kids classmates making fun of the kid because kids are punks now a days. Davis could have made the post without the video or better yet not say anything. Making fun of a young mas looks / size is not something a pro athlete should be doing.

Well Antdrewjosh,

It's all fun and games until Roger Goodell acts, right?

News flash: The NFL has an image problem ( ratings down, millennials not watching the games in the percentages they used to ), and with bullying being a significant issue right these days, the last thing we need is an NFL player mocking some poor teenager on his social media.

So maybe this is more serious than you realize. Has anyone seen the video? I think we can judge for ourselves.

As for Davis, I think he's the BEST safety on the team right now, by default.

If I'm an owner and the video is pretty bad, I want Goodell to act for the financial well being of the game, and punish Davis with the famous conduct detrimental to league clause.

The NFL does not need millionaires mocking the less fortunate. .

You ever buy a jersey? Attend a game and order food and a drink. Newsflash, the NFL has BILLIONAIRES mocking the less fortunate.

Kids and parents are so pathetically ******* weak and helpless that it disgusts me. And this is coming from somebody who works with kids and their parents every day.

So, what's the actual monetary or pecuniary harm the kid is alleging resulted from the alleged slander/libel? If I'm not mistaken, under PA law he'd have to be able to prove damages other than emotional distress or embarrassment.
Any PA lawyers care to weigh in?

Kid and their parents had labia bruising resulting from soft shoulder trauma causing multiple vaginal convulsions. Resulted in a hospital stay Inpatient long term, with their diagnosis present on admission.

Very stupid, immature, and unprofessional act from Sean Davis.

Dont think it is a "sueable" offense....but that doesn't change the fact he should of NOT done that.

Whatever happened to the Donnie Shells, Mel Blounts, and the Pittsburgh Steelers professional football team I used to know, admire, and respect?!?!
Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy...

I don't see where the family asked for money.
They asked a pseudo-celebrity and athlete to do a PSA regarding bullying.
Davis and his attorney rejected that offer and countered with free tickets to training camp and a football camp for him and a friend.

Maybe the kid isn't a football fan?
Maybe the kid/family want actual punishment rather than someone well-off just throwing money at something to make it go away?
If this was a Raven player at a McDonald's, would you have the same opinion?

i'd speak slower and point to the images I wanted to purchase.

Remember, Mel sued Chuck and the Steelers for being included in the “criminal element” case.

I think he made a silly joke and somebody got offended. In 2018 that is justification enough to make a huge court case out of it. These are the exact same kids and parents who come flying into school like their ***** are on fire screaming about bullying every time a 5th grader calls their 5th grader a stupidhead and they want ACTION!

In 9 cases out of 10 when those meetings happen it comes out that their own kid initiated it by calling somebody a stupidhead first and then got called a stupidhead in return....which caused them and their parent to be absolutely traumatized. They are going to sue the school and everybody in it for allowing precious angel to be bullied.

Davis does not deny it happened, and the fact that the family won't take him speaking about bullying leads me to believe he said something stupid on video.

I suppose Davis can write the family a check to make it go away, which might be best for the Steelers. You never know what Roger Goodell is going to do.

Let's see the video.

You're right about the players. For whatever reason, the class of the players' isn't as good as it used to be, and the Steelers seems to have more social media issues/distractions than most teams.

Someone commented on jersey. Yes, I have quite a few, and no I won't wear a thug's number that was arrested by the police on charges or from a player who acted like a real jerk.

If someone gave me a Sean Davis jersey last month for free, of course, I'd take it. Now I would not..

A silly joke, okay. Putting it on his social media to bully a teenager, not okay.

Theyve already quoted what was said in the video multiple times. He said the worker looked like a 8 year old kid and that the service was slow because they have kids working there.

You infer intent here. Maybe his sole intent was to make a silly joke on "SOCIAL" media and the kid just got his feelings hurt. It's possible that there was no intent to bully on his part while there was full intent to bully on the part of the kid's classmates, etc. It's even possible that there was no intent to "bully" on anyone's part; just a little mockery.

Davis does not deny it happened, and the fact that the family won't take him speaking about bullying leads me to believe he said something stupid on video. The media has relayed what was said in the video numerous times. If you choose to believe he said something other than that, it's your choice. Just not backed up by anyone quoted who is actually connected to the case. I'd hate to have you on a jury.
Furthermore, your reasoning is faulty in regards to the family. The fact that the family will not take him speaking about bullying could lead one to believe their main motivation is money. Especially since they allege that they offered to settle by having him speak about bullying. Davis offered more, including speaking out about bullying at a camp he runs.

You're right about the players. For whatever reason, the class of the players' isn't as good as it used to be, and the Steelers seems to have more social media issues/distractions than most teams. Again, delusional thinking. NFL players, even Steelers players have never been choir boys. The Steelers have had freeway shooters, drug dealers and pimps, among others, on their team at one point or another.

Someone commented on jersey. Yes, I have quite a few, and no I won't wear a thug's number that was arrested by the police on charges or from a player who acted like a real jerk.Do you have a Ben jersey?

If someone gave me a Sean Davis jersey last month for free, of course, I'd take it. Now I would not..

Again, what are the monetary damages alleged?

A pro athlete who likely has many " followers " posts a joke mocking a teenager in a fast food restaurant?

That's inexcusable behavior for a grown man. I don't think anyone here condones it.

The video and audio will tell us everything.

Its not what you say, sometimes its how you say it. Let's see it.

There are no monetary amounts discussed that I saw. I simply said that Davis could write the family a check and be done with it.

Also, I'm not sure if Goodell will punish Davis. Its a possibility.

I do not have a Ben jersey.

Yes the Steelers have had drug dealers ( Bam Morris ), but I don't recall any pimps! Who was it? When I look back the players who have had issues with the law or drugs tend to blow their careers.

Cherry pick much? There is also the prospect that he just made a silly joke on social media. And, as we all know, being a pro athlete doesn't come with a guarantee of maturity. Heck, if you, at your age, have never made a joke about someone's appearance, you must be a saint. I can remember being in my early 20's and still "cracking" on folks once in awhile.
Condone the behavior as a full grown adult? Nope. Understand that it was done by a kid in his early 20's? Yep? Hope this teaches Davis a lesson? Sure.
