By Justin McGonigle www.SteelerNation.com The Steelers had a surprise roster move on Saturday ahead of the 4pm deadline. They released veteran guard Stefon Wisniewski, who was just reinstated from injured reserve. Wisniewski had to either be activated on Wednesday or he would be out for the entire season. I am thinking Stefen got knocked down the depth chart. Even if he returns I think Big Dot has his spot. He might be able to overtake backup center, maybe.

I don't think this is so much about Dot than it is Hassenauer. This is basically a roster move to make room for Williamson. They must feel comfortable with his play. It was pretty clear that Dotson is the primary backup at guard. But you need a reliable centre. Pouncey has been a little shaky in the health department this season. I hope they are right on this move.

We brought him back too early from IR, or he reinjured himself in these past 3 weeks.

Why wouldn't you put him on season end IR then instead of outright release.

With the new rules on IR you can bring back any player after 3 weeks. If they start practicing after those 3 weeks, they have another 3 weeks to roster them. If you don't roster them or place them back on IR for the same injury, they are lost for the season. This is a way to give the Steelers a chance to resign him instead of losing him for the season by IRing him again.

Ok that makes sense Cope. So he rehabs away from the teams for say another 4 or 5 weeks or whatever and then they resign him. Cool.

Cope, great explanation on WIZ. Totally makes sense. OUR front office has been amazing these last couple years, it's almost like they were just putting in time until they new it was make or break cause BEN will be gone soon.

Salute the nation

This move also signals that back up center #60 Hassenauer can play.
