Landry dodges another bullet

He was a long shot to make the team, especially given that he played in neither of the team’s preseason games to date. And with Bruce Gradkowski emerging from the PUP list the Steelers no longer needed Boyd as a camp arm.

To fill the roster spot created by the departure of Boyd, the Steelers signed undrafted rookie free agent receiver Jarrod West.

He was unable to show anything compared to Laundry Jones, that is sad

Not really. He was just an arm in camp, but go ahead and turn it into something to hammer on LJ if you want. That might just be the real sad part about it though.

Who?
10 char

The token black QB invited to camp.

Tyler Murphy (officially listed as a WR) is also black and was a QB at both Boston College and Florida...and should replace Landry Jones at #3

So what did he show compared to Landry Jones? yeah that's what I thought. What has Landry shown? Very little so far, even the homers that report on the team are not able to find much good to say about him. He could be a very nice guy and great team mate. He does not look like he will develop into a good back up and by keeping him on the active roster we placed other players on the practice squad. Last year 2 players with promise were lost to other teams. That is my issue with Landry Jones. As to hammering on him not near as much as the process that keeps him on the active roster instead of the practice squad.

I would like to see the steelers spend a first rounder on a qb that could at least become a good back up and a stop gap when Ben retires. Picking guys and then letting them go after 4 years is wasting a space that could be filled with a better player. Granted that can still happen with talent in the first round we have seen that over the years as well.

You had me until a first rounder spent part.

We have no idea how long Ben will play, but I don't see him retiring any time soon. Just don't have the luxury of drafting a first round player with bigger needs.

Like at SS, CB, and OLBer.

LOL...We all know the guy is below the line.....Do you really need to put it into another thread when we already have one going. I swear some people just like to ***** about some players. Everyone knows he hasn't developed. Do you understand. Yeah. That's what I thought.

Take it with a grain of salt as it also comes from Steeler Depot

But one writer wrote this

Tajh Boyd - While many fans are clamoring for more Boyd and less Landry Jones, Boyd has been having major ball security issues in practice. Boyd got some reps as recently as Monday and botched yet another snap from the center. Not a good sign for a player who has yet to smell game action in the 2015 preseason.

He was never used properly in the black and gold!

Would you rather have a young solid qb on the team or JJ. How many years did the present Green Bay QB play as the second qb behind Farve? It can be done and can be done well. A franchise qb is a major need on every team. It would be a good idea to find Ben's replacement soon. I list the Packers because they seem to have done it right. If I remember correctly it was close to five seasons they had to develop Rodgers. If we look at all of our recent number ones are there any you would not trade for a franchise qb.

You made a comment and when it gets a response you wish to complain about the response, have a nice day

Boyd couldn't make the jets how the hell is he going to make any other team

Rodgers started his fourth year

not even so much what would do or want. Just don't think the FO would fly that way.

three then he started the fourth

... do you feel Ben has only three good years left?

I understand what you are saying though. Have a plan when it gets close. Just not sure he is 4 years from retiring.

no we need to have a plan in place asap for Ben... you cannot plan when a guy is done... it can happen in his early 30's or not till his 40's... look at how Bradshaw ended.. look what we had when he was gone... worse case is you get a guy and he doesn't pan out and you try again... best case is a guy turns out great and Ben isn't done and his value climbs enough that you get enough assets for the young guy to get another protégé ready and maybe fill another spot or two... QBs are valuable. get one any chance you get... even if it means one day we have to Favre or Montana Ben...

Someone starts a thread about a player getting cut and you want to use it to cut on another player....get called out on it and get in a tiffy about it. Umm. OK. You have a nice day/evening also.

Jones is at best mediocre against a third-team defense. If the light hasn't clicked on by now playing with and against starters, I don't think it will (at least with the Steelers). I'm still hoping they scour the market for a veteran after cuts if they really want to carry three.

This is true, however the alarming part is Jones has played well vs our defense ( mostly 2nd and 3rd string ) in practices. 66.8% completions, 25TD's, 7 INT's. That is Landry Jones " Stats " in camp. That could speak volumes about our pass defense. I think Jones did just enough to stick for another year, but would not mind two QB's and giving a spot to the other player then moving Jones to the Practice Squad.

I think everyone knew Boyd was going to be cut. It is a little surprising at how early.

Time seems about right. Right after Gradkowski came back.

I'm not. Boyd was bad. With Gradkowski hurt, the Steelers might as well see if Jones improved. I think Jones would ground the best offense in football, but Tomlin for some reason likes him.

He is grounding the best offense in football. :victorious:
