After the past two seasons as an assistant offensive line coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adrian Klemm has been named the offensive line coach for the Steelers. Klemm will be tasked with replacing former coach Shaun Sarrett,*who had mixed reviews since he took over for the Steelers in 2019. Although the offensive line did well […]

Awful. This screams small time.

The Steelers needed big changes on offense and Canada sort of fits the bill with a new philosophy and a relatively new face, but they still promoted from within. Now they hire the assistant of the guy who they deemed wasn't good enough to be the OL coach and run game coordinator. Either the Steelers are extremely cheap with their assistant coach contracts or Tomlin is impossible to work for. Maybe it's both. However, with the OL about to go through a big transition, they needed to great hire to develop the young lineman and I don't think this was it.

Still polishing turds - are they shiny yet?

It's likely an unfortunate combination of the two. They're cheap and Tomlin is an incompetent *******.

I saw that but I don't hold a lot of stock with anything cheat related. As their rings are tainted. I like that he has played but he sure looks raw for a coach.

Raw for an NFL coach - yes. He has over a decade in college as a line coach. That said, I am not defending the hire, just pointing out he has some credentials. I would have preferred to go outside the org for more NFL experience and perhaps an infusion of new ideas.

Normally I would have been fine let's see what the kid has. Just with Ben teeter totter-ing on the end of a career yeah more NFL experience would have been welcomed. Let's hope he gets that running game some balance with capable line blocking.

You know, thinking back, Kelvin Beachum was one of the better 7th round picks we've made. Started a few games as a Rookie, didn't he? Klemm was his position coach at SMU ... So, there's that.

underwhelming

My god...where else in sports or the business world does anyone hire the 2 assistants under the 2 guys you fired for the same job they got fired for sucking at...

Rooney III isnt even trying anymore

Im not worried about giving this guy a shot... but after making a hugecdeal about getting tge right oline coach this feels like settling after your better choices went elsewhere...

Gheez.....folks just griping for the sake of griping. We aren’t getting Munchak to return, so move on from it.

They’ve looked at over half a dozen coaches. Klemm has a solid resume, and as the Asst OLine coach he is credited with Big Dot’s quick development last year.

Yes, we know Munciak isnt coming back and there's nothing wrong with giving a young up and coming guy a chance, BUT THIS DUDE GOT CANNED AT UCLA, WAS OUT COACHING FOR 3 YEARS AND THEN COACHED OUR TRAIN WRECK OLINE LAST YEAR! That sounds like someone looking to rebound at a small college next year not a NFL hire...

Does no one with at least some track record of success want the job? I understand the idea of a young unknown coach being given a shot-but we are talking about Ben's last year. We are talking three seasons of an embarrassingly horrible run game-and this hire does not look to be without a high degree of risk. Where is the growth going to come from-solely dependent on new players?

Plus this guy appears to be a POS cheater in recruiting who was thrown out of college football by the NCAA for show cause in recruiting violations and was not very concerned with the players he coached at UCLA. https://www.dailynews.com/2019/05/3...taff-bullied-injured-players-lawsuits-allege/

It's the amount of hiring from within . . . or from Arkansas State . . . or from Tidewater, VA that is frustrating. I get that many coaches hire people they are familiar with, but the hires under Tomlin feel so stale. I'm wrong all the time, so I'd admit if I was here too, but over the last decade, the one coach signing that was the most exciting was the one that was the best: Munchak. Personally, beyond Munchak and Haley, they've otherwise been "meh" to groan-worthy for me.

Well Lemon if you are in fact wrong all the time as you typed out then you are 100 percent going to be wrong by that statement.

Better check those rushing rankings for the last two years Munchak was coaching the OL. Might be surprised to learn that they weren't in the top half of the league. 2018 - Rank 31st at 90.3 ypg., 2017 - Rank 20th at 104.2 ypg.

This. They are a gold standard franchise that keeps coaches a long time who are even halfway decent, youd think people would lineup for a coaching job here. Unless Tomlin is the obstacle/problem

Sounds like speculation. Haven't heard that from anyone inside the organization. Even ex-players/coaches who are out of the league/retired and therefore might feel free to say so.

No I dont have any sources, but I'll stick by my position they are fools to promote within a bad area like OC and OL. There must be more qualified people out there to coach at one of the top 5 franchises in the NFL, the fact we got who we got falls on Tomlin
