Steelers player tests positive for Covid per KDKA

For what it's worth, the Rats had close contacts on the 5 day Covid list and none of them came back positive. Same with Stafford last week. Lets hope Ben doesn't test positive and we can have him back at home on Sunday to beat the Bungles.

Is your work administering rapid tests every day? Like I said, if you can't trust the results of these tests then what is the point? End the season then.

The tests are mostly window dressing, but also can weed out asymptomatic positive cases. My son missed a week of school and football with a cold in September. When we went to the test site they refused to test him until his symptoms presented for 48 hours because any results are unreliable.

Like i said, then they need to end the season if it is that dangerous to these player's lives. No way should anyone even be around other people, mask or no mask if this thing is that deadly.

So what you are kinda saying in a backhanded kinda dicked way is that they shouldn't worry about it because its a political thing to you. You don't honestly believe they should cancel the season. You think they shouldn't care so much. When the reality is while the vast majority will be just fine, some will have long term effects and yes some could get very sick. More importantly it is just exceptionally contagious and will just run rampage through a roster to the point of they will not be able to play for three or four weeks which will **** the schedule.

I think they are doing enough to prevent the virus spread, you can't just stop players from playing cause they have a cold and assume its the virus.. that's what I'm saying.

The schedule has already been messed up and I'm sure it will again.

If you can accurately determine if it is indeed a cold. Which unfortunately, you cannot for a certain period of time. So in reality he needed to be quarantined from the rest of the team when he came down with symptoms. This idea that everyone has a cold all winter is false. The rosters needed to be greatly increased and anyone exhibiting needed to be removed until you could accurately assess. And maybe every week yes you might be missing a guy. I can tell you if what happened with MacDonald is the standard, if they followed protocol, then they are going to be ****** because the protocol is ****.

Colds/flu is spread through out a team too. What makes you think it'll be just a player or two that shows signs of illness? So far, this virus hasn't been spread through out entire teams even with how contagious it is.

Aren't we suppose to trust the doctors who put the protocol in place for the NFL? Do you think the NFL isn't taking medical advice on this stuff?

Yes that is exactly what I'm saying cause it is exactly what happened. He reported ill on Friday. He shouldn't have played Sunday, because even a higher quality test is unreliable in less than 48 hours of symptom onset. If he had reported ill on say Tuesday he could have had a chance to play Sunday.

They're following what doctors tell them.. sorry, that doesn't jive with your belief.

Its not my belief it is scientific fact. Tests done within 48 hours are unreliable. That fact came from the testing center we went to and my family doctor. The NFL protocol is based upon convenience and trying to keep the train running. Not strict scientific protocol.

Like if you honestly believe this is just about science an player safety explain to me why on earth you would want the results of your most definitive swab testing to come Monday, the day after you play. And in between you get cleared to play via a spit test less than 48 hours after you exhibit symptoms. C'mon.

Well I guess the Dr. Sills, the chief doctor for the NFL is just making up his own rules for this. Steelers can only do what they're told to do

A 49ers WR (Bourne I believe) tested positive last Wednesday prior to their Thursday night game. He was subsequently added to the covid list along with the rest of their regular receiving corp as "close contacts" so 4 of their receivers missed Thursdays game against the Packers. I have Aiyuk on my fantasy team and thought it was odd he lost his IR tag on Friday already despite being one of the close contact covid adds. Turns out Bourne's positive test was a false positive since he then tested negative Thursday and Friday so their WRs missed a game for no reason and were all activated the day after their Thursday night game. I have yet to see this anywhere other than in ESPNs weekly blurb about Aiyuk.

So is Vance actually sick...aka a potential spreader, or did he just test "positive" but has no symptoms? There is a difference even though it's not treated as one for whatever reason.

According to Tomlin, Vance was sick but didn't have covid symptoms or a positive covid test before traveling, so they thought it was a cold.

Fort what its worth

@AdamSchefter
To be clear, Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger has tested negative and was placed on the Reserve/COVID list for close contacts, per source. Roethlisberger is said to have “been diligent” with his behavior around others.

I think it would be wise to force players and staff with cold symptoms to miss the game until they are symptom free. 2 weeks in a row a player had symptoms, tested negative and then popped for a positive test on game day.

No. But they came up with a protocol that was an attempt to be safe and still expeditious about not removing players last minute. Clearly. I'm not blaming the Steelers anymore than I blame the Ravens last week. It was the EXACT same circumstance. Its the NFL protocol.

But there in lies the deal. And I'm not blaming Tomlin or the Steelers. They aren't making up their rules in a vacuum that is for damn sure. But cold symptoms ARE COVID SYMPTOMS. And the tests that follow for the next 48 hours are unreliable. There will be a new Steelers rule within a week. It will be called the Cold MacDonald Rule.

Sask is right. I deal with this every day as we employ 1000 people. There is an incubation period during which negative tests can occur falsely. The NFL is testing more often, but to say a contact is cleared after 5 days due to a negative test is NOT based on science.
