Well this could pay off for us. If Rogers signed elsewhere after June 1st and we don't want to match his salary lets say 15M would count in the comp pick formula.
What does that mean?. Apx a 4th round comp pick and I would say for the headache that would be a decent aspirin.
I do not want him here this year for the simple fact if he's playing how do you find out what we got with Howard and Aller.

Maybe this will be just enough to throw off the balance of the sand toe thinker into submitting to retirement, or finding employment elsewhere where.

He wants control of his destiny while this takes a little of play out of it.

I know us fans have ZERO say in anything, but you have to hand it to the FO for taking this step.

Is it just me or is this odd…

“Meaning that he can accept a 10 percent raise off last year’s salary, which would pay him about $15 million this season, and the Steelers also now will have the right to match any offer sheet he would sign with another team”

Thanks for posting this slash, appreciate yaz.

This shows a couple points to ponder.

1) it narrows the confidence in Aaaa-ron to not just taking his word on the return matter.

2) smart thinking on the Steelers side as it gives them a 4th comp pick should Aaaa-Ron sign elsewhere where.

3) bonus: should it come to start training camp and Aaaa-Ron can ONLY sign with the Steelers…. It could give us some trade bait later down the road. Also could force his hand causing sentiment to change amongst the party’s.

I don’t want him to be rostered as QB1.

But, but, but I've been told the Steelers know exactly what Rodgers is doing. Hopefully they're just doing this because Rodgers is being a little ***** and they might as well get something if he signs elsewhere when they really don't want him anymore.

I don't hear any interest from other teams. Only if there is an injury. He isn't " in demand " but he is available.

That was exactly my reaction Drink: I think there’s a good chance this irritates Rodgers just enough to push him to retire

Rodgers was boasting about being a free agent on the McAfee show a few weeks ago…limiting his freedom to bounce to a top team who suddenly has a QB need due to an injury or unforeseen issue leading into camp (which the Steelers have every right to do) might push Rodgers away

No one likes a rebuild but I’m down for rolling with an honest camp battle of Rudolph, Howard, and Aller with the best of the younger two starting week 1 or at minimum Rudy starts the year but the younger 2 play all of the back half of the season and seeing who they are.

If we stink and/or Aller and Howard stink we’re well positioned to draft our long term guy next draft with a top 12 pick

You hit it exactly "if an injury takes place" that could put Rogers on someone's radar. I'm not rooting for someone's injury however that could pay dividends for us.

Excellent post! stick around, Bub!

Steeler look foolish acting like a loved staved high school girl. These old heads are really dillussional pursuing him like this. He’s washed up. Did they not see how afraid of contact he was last year? And his overall play was a “ C” grade at best. But these two guys ( Rooney & McCarthy) are living in their fears of the unknown. Howard can play at a “ C” level .. but he has upside. I’d much rather go with Howard.

This will not make our little Aaron very happy. I think most here including myself wish the Steelers would just tell him thanks for last year but we’re moving forward without you.
I really thought that Rooney and Kahn knew that he was coming back and I said as much, but now I’m not so sure.
What the hell are we gaining if he does come back is my question? The guy can’t move and looked really bad in that playoff loss so what the hell value are we gaining if he comes back?
It’s time to end this nonsense and just go with Rudy, Howard, and Allar.
What’s the worst scenario, we win 3,4, 5 games? So what! The fans won’t stop supporting the team and we position ourselves for next year’s draft.
Come on Art, time to wake up!

Rodgers wont officially sign till camp, like always with him.. this just diverts a couple QB needy teams from tempting him away... there had been some talk teams were poking around, especially cause a couple starters may not be ready week 1... now tgey can match any offer they feel comfortable and may get a pick if someone goes really high on him

I'm beginning to think they did this because he's jerking them around, and they no longer want him, they're just dicking him around now.

I dunno that would seem to be a waste of time. If they feel he is jerking them around just as easy to move on. I think as was mentioned that this just gives other teams something to think about if they are interested.

My goodness just let Howard, Allar and Rudolph compete. I’m sick of this circus and we need to know what we have in Howard and Allar sooner rather than later.

I can't believe we're enduring 2 years of this nonsense,**** or get off the pot.

You either want to play or you don't. If he really wants to play he should be training his *** off to get the most out of the talent he has left. The arm is good, but the legs need some work.

I have no idea what he's doing, but if it's just chilling licking frogs then I think it's time to call it a day.

It's not like he needs the money.

It's an odd move that makes sense. So the Steelers do want Rodgers back and I'd imagine this will not make him happy. There's probably some smoke that he wants to play elsewhere.

The Steelers can't be a team committed to putting together a playoff-caliber team while at the same time not having a QB commit until training camp. That's not the mentality of someone who is playing to win, but rather playing because he still can.

Somewhere in the foothills of the Andes, there is a little less Ayahuasca left in the bowl tonight.

I also think they discussed this with him before dropping the tag on him.

I don’t think there is a doubt that they want him back, this protects that.

My hope is somewhere down the line it gets to botheriing him & he says ****-it, I’m retiring.

Yeah that's kind of what I mean, it doesn't make it as easy for him to go to another team.

Who knows, this guy just needs to go the F away.
