Steelers new OC hire.

Oh look…..another former coach hired by big Mike. The big Mike alumni tour continues.
So it's like Shades then. Does not immediately inspire confidence.

We have been asking for change for 10 years or more. All of this is exciting.

New names new philosophy.

Hell we might pass over the middlen of the field.
we could pass on 1st down

We might not be as predictable

My kid might not be able to call run or pass with a 95% correct guess rate.

Our opponents might not know our defensive plays because they might just change a bit.

We might utilize TJ in a bit of a different manner
Dare I say theirbis hope?

Are you saying no 3rd & long routes way short of the sticks? Are you saying there's a chance?

what is this passing over the middle of the field that you speak of. is it some type of witchy witchy secret play.

Did you expect him to scour the four corners of the earth and do dozens of interviews to build a staff? Who does that? Senior bowl week is gone, Combine is next, then the draft.

Everybody in this position hires guys he knows.
Yes. I did expect more effort. Every hire has been people that worked for him. It’s like he settled. It smacks of laziness and no due diligence. Many of the people he hired hardly progressed in their careers. Excuse me for expecting the best person for the job. Not just hiring your old buddies. You can settle for that crap all you want.

Not sure I agree. My assumption is that he had the vast majority of these guys lined up and ready to go over the last year as he'd planned what he'd do when he returned to coaching. I'm wondering whether his first choice OC already took a job elsewhere which is why he's taken longer to go through his black book for this job.

If I was him I'd want to be damn sure going into a year with potentially Rudolph/Howard/rookie/??? at QB then you need people that know how you work and what you want to do in advance so that you have every chance of making it work. Even if Rodgers comes back it's a toss-up whether you can get him to accept the changes that you want to make to the offense. And I don't think Rodgers being back is a given in any way shape or form because if he's still going to throw everything short and not want to get hit then it's so limiting to what you can do that it might be worth taking a punt on someone else (Kyler Murray..?).

Murray is an injury waiting to happen.

Please not him..

Also notice we have enlarged our coaching staff to include many update pins not before represented. That also means we will be paying more on our coaching staff, not just because of the increased number but also mmyb side of the quality of coaching being brought in.

I don’t know what coach McCarthy is going to be paid, but it would imagine less than the 16mil the tomlin was making. That differential may lower the total pay cost of the coaching staff. None the less, we are getting that change and I feel it is for the way better.

Plus he is a midget. He hasn’t done anything lately and highly doubt he suddenly is promise land material now.

Respectfully disagree. Go google all the coaches he hired. 90% worked for him in the past. That doesn’t mean they were the best coaches….just that they worked for him. When you google them, many of them have had long careers and have hardly advanced beyond their positional coaching. Many have been fired several times. Obviously I understand familiarity. But every single one of them? I think it’s called settling. Laziness. All these same old retreads. Talk about an old boys network.

Hey….i will cheer them on regardless. By the way the thought of Kyle Murray wearing the B&G plus his salary would make me puke. Imagine that being the big trade on draft night in Pittsburgh.

We'll see if familiarity brings cohesion or if it's jobs for the boys. It's just a relief to see a staff coming together nicely with a number of people like Patrick Graham that I really like.

Will be interesting to see what they decide to do at QB. That's going to be absolutely pivotal.

I get it QB is the most important position. I do want this team attacking free agency. They need a WR, CB, G, FS and a RB. Pretty much what I am hoping for in addition to a QB. This team isn’t a player away from winning something significant. I hope the act like it.

So far the coaching staff hasnt been expanded. They're still officially missing a TE and OLB coach. They also had an Offensive Assistant and Defensive Quality Control unfilled. However, they are likely spending more because of the addition of Cignetti as Senior Offensive Assistant (and improved title over the offensive assistant from last year) and Whitt listed as Secondary/Assistant Head Coach.
