The Steelers trade the 220th overall pick in the seventh round, plus their 79th overall pick in he third round to move up to draft Mason Rudolph.

I don't like this pick. For the record the Steelers need to address our Defense which collapsed down the stretch last season especially after the loss of Shazier. I know they drafted Edmunds and signed Bostic & Burnett from the Packers but I am bothered by the fact that they haven't addressed the ILB position and they also need a true DT in the middle because we got gashed in the running game last season.

So far I like the James Washington pick but not a fan of Rudolph especially when this team needs Defense!

UGH! Cmon Colbert & Tomlin....draft us a good DT & ILB!

another pick coming up

Why would The steelers need to improve on defense? It's not likely they have to play a Blake bortles caliber q.b every year in the playoffs?:der:

The Steelers always look at the long term. This is why we have a team that competes every year, as opposed to one of those teams that has a 3-4 year run, then fades back into the land of the 4-12 record. This is a small gamble that they might have found Ben's successor without having to mortgage half of a draft. He'll have two years to convince them that he's the guy. If he's not, they'll then have to spend a first round pick in 2020. Considering how late we're likely to be picking, they'll likely have to give up multiple high draft picks to move into position to draft a potential stud. This pick gives us a chance to avoid that scenario. I'm more than willing to gamble a third round pick to avoid maybe having to give up 2 first rounders, plus more in 2020.

with jefferson gone, take ilb joswell

Great way to look at it. Ben isn't going to be around forever and I thin 2 years, this and next are his limit. Add in one, possibly two SBs and he is gone. I wonder who (QB) WILL GET CUT before the season??? Can he beat out Laundry???

Rudolph the hard nosed QB
Tomlin loves the way he throws
And if you ever saw him
You would even say he glows

All of the other GM's
Laughed and didn't call his name
They didn't watch poor Rudolph
Play in any college games

Then one foggy NFL draft
Colbert came to say
Rudolph with your future so bright
Wont you guide our team tonight

Then all the other QB's
Will all become busts you'll see
Rudolph the Pittsburgh Steeler
You'll go down in history

Old laundry gets thrown out. We is Dobbin in the Rudolph

you have been waiting on this for awhile

Actually Coolieman gave me the idea in post #2

What I've really been waiting on is for Rudolph to get picked by us!
Ecstatic that he's in Black and Gold....thought he might go to the Cheats.

Also, keep in mind that this was a qb heavy draft. 5 in the first round. Rudolph was the sixth qb taken. In a normal year, he might be an early second round pick. This was the perfect time to take a gamble on him.

low risk to take him that late in the draft. i like it. if he busts it's only a 3rd round pick

Very keen on Rudolph, not sure about his accuracy but he seems to have a QB mentality. He's determined and pissed that he was left like an afterthought. We'll see how he turns out, personally I think he's the best QB pick since Ben. Not saying a ton, just pleased with the pick.

Great value in the 3rd, some mocks had him going in the first. Big strong arm pocket passer with good downfield vision, just needs grooming with his progressions. Let him develop behind Ben for a couple of seasons, the potential is there if he's developed properly.

Yeah, but at 6'5", 240 bs. he should be able to fire the ball through a carwash without getting the damn thing wet - like Ben. He can't. He is a very large guy with surprisingly little arm strength. Get him to one of those baseball camps that improve fastball velocity by 10 MLB.

Mayock, who knows more than most of the other draftniks, rated him the No. 37 talent overall. Why he slid, I have no idea. But I'm glad he did.
