The Pittsburgh Steelers' defense was expected to come out and be a box office in Week 1 against the New York Jets and Justin Fields. Many assumed TJ Watt, Cam Heyward, and the rest of the Steelers’ high-paid defenders would make life extremely difficult for Fields and the Jets’ offense. Early on, however, it was clear that those expectations were far from reality. The Jets consistently moved the ball, exploiting gaps and using Fields’ mobility to extend plays. The Steelers’ defense struggled to adjust, giving up crucial first downs and big plays that left fans frustrated and concerned about the unit’s ability to perform at a high level this season.
