Steelers hiring McCarthy

We hired McCarthy and I'm still so happy that Tomlick is GONE and that I can watch an actual offense that I had some homemade wings and a cold Paulaner Hefeweizen to celebrate. To the future without Tomchump!

@bermudasteel
Where's your cousin sister mother in law??? You're creepy...

Absolutely sucky day to have the moniker of SteelBuckeye. First McCarthy is hired as the Steelers HC. Then, Art Smith, who couldn't get hired in the NFL, is hired to be the Buckeye's OC.:mad:
You can have Coach Deboer if that makes you feel better???

If you're upset over McCarthy, ask yourself. Who did you want? It seems to me the answer is the Rams coaches either Shula or Scheelhaas. Steelers spoke to both. What if they both said No?

Aside from those 2 hot names, who else?

Giants - Harbaugh, defensive minded coach
Ravens - Jesse Minter, defensive coach
Atlanta - Stefanski - offense
Dolphins - Jeff Hafley, defensive coach
Titans - Robert Salah, defensive coach

What other names are being throws around?
Raheem Morris
Mike LaFleur
Matt Nagy
Brian Daboll
Vance Joseph
Klint Kubiak

Would anybody be throwing a parade for Robert Salah or Jeff Hafley or Brian Daboll?

I'll take McCarthy over those guys. McCarthy is more proven. He's worked well with QBs and his offensive systems are still in use.

Kentucky didn't mention ICE.....so you would be wrong. Keep the political slant in the proper forum. Not hard. Rather simple actually. That is why we have a political forum.
Not arguing that. But he brought up DEI, again. That is politics as well. Leave it all in the other forum.

I'll live with McCarthy even though I'm more than a little surprised. I think it signals Rodgers coming back. There's really nothing we can draft and why overpay for a recycled FA.

Hopefully Rodgers mentors Howard another year and Howard is given an opportunity to play some. It can't hurt to learn a couple of seasons behind one of the all time greats. Meanwhile we draft to fill our many other holes so when and if we finally draft a franchise QB (if it isn't Howard) he has a fighting chance.

One of my (and many other people's) biggest problems with Tomlin was his lack of quality assistant coaches. Also his influence on the defense. McCarthy will have a clean slate. Hopefully he does better.

Had I known we were looking for a fired, older HC I’d have preferred McDermott.

No parades, just hope something would change over the next 5-10 years. Some of us feel like we’ve wasted enough of our lives living through the nightmare and now the surprise gift that was generously granted by MT has been squandered.

Not even a serious process was performed. I think Tomlin announced the same date.

What a coincidence.

I am glad Tomlin is gone, nothing to do with DEI, everything to do with his "body of work." As far as Karma...your point is like the religious person who points at their baby surviving a collapsed building after an earthquake....they tell you it's a miracle their baby survived, but ignore the other 38 people who were crushed and mangled to death in the same building.

In other words what about the fans who didn't want him gone?
Comment had nothing to do with the fans that wanted him gone thats why reading is fundamental and understanding context is not to be taken for granted.

Does hiring McCarthy make it easier to retain Weidl? Maybe Weidl has a foot out the door because he was anticipating a coach who'd want to control personnel.
I thought Weidl was interviewing for Falcons GM position. Im sure by this time next week we'll know if he got it.

If you think each of those names is better than McCarthy, that's fine, but I feel you're proving my point. There's no awesome home run hire sitting out there this year.

When the Steelers hired Tomlin, they could afford to roll the dice on an unknown. They had a Super Bowl winning roster plus a great coaching staff with Lebeau and Arians and others to act as training wheels. Now they need a whole new staff while the roster is being rebuilt.

I like the McCarthy hire the more I think about it.

My point is that any of those names are better and some had big upside with minimal risk when you compare to a McCarthy selection. Feel free to feel good about the selection though. It’s, thankfully, still a free country.

If they said no, we can't blame them. We have no QB worth a **** in house, but to assume they did is conjecture. Nobody was hiring McCarthy before the SB plays out to play devil's advocate, even if that's the case. IF they said no. I'd take a chance on Kubiak over who we got though, he won't be 70 years old in a few years. The Rooney's in charge now suck.

It’s weird. I’m not even a little bit excited by this hire. In fact, I’m incredibly disappointed. That said, I was already pretty much checked out on the Steelers with Tomlin and this does nothing to change that. I’ll be in Kuwait for the entirety of next football season, so at least I don’t have to watch it week to week. As a fan, all I can do is hope for the best, but my expectations remain pretty low.

You believe that the fans who disrespected Tomlin "reaped what they sowed" or got "karma'... whatever. You fail to understand all fans reaped the same thing in McCarthy whether they screamed those three letters, disrespected him, loved him, hated him, were lukewarm about him....

Logic is not to be taken for granted.

No, reading and comprehension is not to be taken for granted. I said specifically who my comment was for and whether you want to acknowledge it or not its still true that what was reaped was sowed regarding those specific fans. In other words i dont feel sorry for those fans regarding this decision. As far as im concerned they got exactly what they wanted and what they deserve. Everybody who is a Steelers fan being impacted is not even a question, but for certain this coaching decision is not as much of a shock to some people's psyche/ego as it is to others. You dont get where im coming from maybe have your special ed teacher explain it to you.

You're not wrong. Good post @NoKap#7.

The zinger at the end was a bit unwarranted but, again, for those who know understand the context of the entire situation, it is absolutely bitter sweet.

I slept on the decision and I'm not as vexed as I was yesterday. Let's hope for a better day today and see what Coach McCarthy brings to the table.

*NOTE* - I pray to God that the Rams do not lose tonight because the fallout from the nuclear explosion on Monday morning is going to be EPIC...

Mccarthy already knows his way around town, so Rooney didn't have to show him around. Rooney liked that.

I suppose there won't be any plans for a new burger or sammich to honor the new coach. Or, does " **** on a shingle" count?
Yes Primanti bros. They are coming out with the mediocre Mike burger. As the title suggests you bite into it and immediately think meh I have had better. Much like the restaurant so the two will go well together.

The burger comes with a teaspoon of coleslaw ,one soggy french fry ,one slice of unmelted provolone, one slice of tomato, well done with a tinge of bomb-a sauce.

Eat up

Here is a tidbit I dug up and it is even worse than I expected.

“offensive coordinator for New Orleans and San Francisco. Steelers general manager Omar Khan and assistant GM Andy Weidl worked in the Saints front office when McCarthy was there”

So they subscribe to the buddy buddy rule of hiring over what is best for the team. Wonderful.
