Steelers Franchise Tag Bell

If he doesn't show up until week ten, I suspend him for the rest of the season for conduct detrimental to the team. We will have learned to live without him by then.

If he doesn't sign I doubt you can suspend a unsigned player...

Wonder if you can switch the tag from exclusive to non-exclusive before July 16th. I think they need to allow him to negotiate with other
teams, so he can see his value around the league. If someone wants to pay him, take the 2 first round picks and say good luck.

Doubt they would do it even if they could. I would think they could until he signed it though...

If they take someone early in the draft and Bell hasn't signed the tag before or very early in the season, I pull the tag if the draft pick and Connor are holding their own.

Bells tweets shows his stance, he wants Ben and Brown's money. He is a running back whos time keeps ticking and yet he can't see this. If he wants to sit at home let him and let him go on, maybe work at Dairy Queen as he wanted to make fun of last year.

Maybe they are making bell and his agent do the work. You know his agent is going to try to find him a deal. Exclusive rights or not.

I dont like paying him 14 mil / year.

Not worth it. But they may be mortgaging the future to get to the SB in this last few windows of bens career.

Under Dan Rooney, his *** would have been gone...

We've averaged 25 ppg with him and we've averaged 25 ppg in the 21 or however many games he's missed.

Everyone says you don't get anything by cutting him lose, you get 14.5 million in cap space

We could (Steelers) could buy a FS and a ILBer with the savings in free agency. Draft a RB in 1 and call it a day.

No matter what happens with Bell, we need to sign a LB, and draft one in round 1 if there's one there. You have to assume Shazier won't play again, and this is Williams last season under contract.
In this pass happy league I'm not drafting a RB in round 1, there have been so many mid round guys that have panned out.

I’m hoping the Steelers are merely buying time with the tag and intend to rescind it if they are unable to reach a long term deal, or are able to acquire other players via free agency and the draft.

Not the best for the organization unless you trade that value. That is provided you can't get him to sign. It is a fail with anything less.
They'll get a 3rd round comp pick. What team would give better than that in a trade? He's a RB that's had multiple seasons cut short by suspensions and IRs that wants almost double the market value per season for his position. On top of that, he's been ran ragged when they've had him healthy. He's a great back, don't get me wrong. He catches passes well on check downs and is a great pass blocker too but at this point in his career, you proceed with caution. I can't imagine any GM in the league giving up a 1, 2, or 3 for him when you can draft better value. The FO made the smart move in locking up AB instead.

I think you could ONLY suspend him for two games with pay. CBA

This is absolutely the truth and guess what............We would be a better team too !!!!!!! There is no guarantee to fully replace Bell but you don't need to. You need to replace about 80% of what he does. The other players on the team will compensate the rest. Our team is amazing on offense with the player power we have and can survive without Mr. Bell. Our "D" needs the help and slash has a great example of getting that help. Thanks

By getting rid of Bell you not only get the cap space but you get rid of part of the "me first" locker room cancer that has been apart of this team for the last handful or more seasons. In my opinion anyways.

With MB out next year, you just rid yourself of 99% of the drama.

Less drama =more winning. (when it matters most)

So here is my solve the problem layout

Tell Bell's agent he can field calls for a trade. Keeping the tag in place. When they find a suitor. For a 1 and a 3rd (similar to the Revis-Tampa trade) You pull the trigger.

Cut Mitchell, and Gay.

Money saved - cha ching.

Restructure like if Bell was still there.

You bring in a decent FS,RB, and ILBer.

You draft a RB FS ILB OLber WR -BPA - all within the first three rounds

your draft looks like this

round 1
round 1
round 2
round 3
round 3
round 5
round 5
round 7
round 7

So you have three RBs fighting for a start, three FS's fighting for a start (Davis is thrown into the mix) two ILbers fighting for a start.

Roster has been fortified.

THIS, it would be nice if they could let Mr.Bell negotiate a trade offer to see the market value of this ONCE in a GENERATION talent............ I'm for getting a value out of him because I don't think his heart will be in this coming season.

You don’t think they will get value out of him Drink? Why would a player De-Value themselves by playing down or not to get hurt. It’s not like he’s a WR or defensive player, with limited touches or splash plays. He’s as a RB is in the category with QBs. Production on a contract year, produces big results. His next contract is going to be based on his previous year results.

I agree. His best bet at anybody paying him close to what he wants is to take his 14mil this season and put up an mvp performance. Anything less is proving the Steelers right. And the downside is he'll be a 27yo back with a potential cumulative 1100 touches over his last 3 seasons. That won't play well with his durability as he approaches age 30.
