Steelers Franchise Tag Bell

It doesn't matter what Bell thinks he's worth or what some other team might pay him or how much we want him to be on the team. What it is about are the STEELERS. The team, not the individual. With Shazier's injury and cap hit, we just can not afford to pay Bell 15+ million per year. We have other needs and we CAN win without Bell. We can not win without Ben. I really hope if they tag Bell, that they allow him to seek a trade because that tag almost guarantees we don't win it all this year as we will not be able to add any FA's to help improve our biggest weakness, the D.

Sorry its about both. I love the steelers too. But its not just about them. They have to do whats right for them and so does Bell.

Bell's a damn idiot then, because it goes by a players market value and position has alot to do with that. Any player can demand what he wants, it doesn't mean he's worth that.

Why is he an idiot smh..this **** goes in cycles. At one point the RB position was the glamour position. Not QB. He has every right to fight the devaluation of his position..sucks for us steelers fans but i dont blame him one bit. He can argue that he is just as important as anyone else and should be paid accordingly. And only he can deem what he thinks is fair. If he isnt worth what he thinks let him hit the open market and found out.

if the Steelers wanted to be creative and hush-hush about it, they could quite possibly do something rather stealthy. We've all seen the threadsssssssssssss of Cooch demanding the trade to Cleveland, but ... we sure don't want to play Bell twice per season.

I'd suggest, instead, we could look to see what the Giants would do.
Bell for their #2 pick, as long as Cleveland was not aware we were discussing this.

Of course, with the 2, we'd take Barkley.
Though we'd be taking the risk that Barkley is everything he's being touted to be.

QB has always been the glamour position

Well so far he's left 16 million on the table over these two seasons, so that's pretty stupid.
I'm sure if you decided that you were worth double what you were getting paid, went to your boss and said I'm not working until you pay me what I'm worth.
1-alot of people would think you were an idiot.
2-you wouldn't have that job much longer.

Bell needs to understand his position, too.

at 26, he's got just five more years of being efficient. He'll soon be 30 and that's normally when RBs start to fall off.
So he can get paid VERY ******* well until then and have a chance to win multiple rings before his career is over ... or get paid at the top of his profession for a year or two and retire without any awards.

I think they can allow him to seek trades if they do the non-exclusive tag. I think the exclusive tag means he doesn't go anywhere. I could be wrong on that but that's what I've been reading.

As much as I want him on the team, tagging him hurts the team more than it helps.

exclusive tag means he can not try and sign a free agent deal with another team....the team can trade him though if a deal can be reached.

Depends on if i was able to just negotiate with just my job or if i was able to talk to other jobs too now wouldnt it?? You dont know if he can get double or not? And a matter of fact the steelers kinda agree with him because they keep franchising him and paying him damn near double. Nor will they let him on the open market to see. Yeah he is such an idiot

Yeah, he could've signed last year for 42 million guaranteed, instead he's going to play for 26 million if he shows by week one the past two years, and will have added two years onto his age and a **** load of touches.

There was no 42 million guarantee

The whole problem is Bell’s belief that his floor is the FA tag of 14.5. It isn’t. The tag was created to keep team from not paying market value for a player’s services on a long term deal. If they choose not to then they have to pay the tag price. Which is an escalator for paying a player on a one year contract. He wants to set the market, Pitt was giving him 13/year last year. Market value isn’t the tag. The tag is a collectively bargained percentage. Not the market value for a position.

The issue I am having is Bell is all over the place with what he wants. First it was guarantees, which he was given a pretty good one for 3 years; then its per year amount. No team is going to set his value over his demands. They may pay him but his demand is not realistic for what the union agreed upon. He should blame them.

Funny thing was we paid Dwill 1.4 million. If Bell doesn't show then we'll cut his ***, we can take the tag off anytime I believe if it's not signed

This year will be a repeat of last year with Bell. He will skip otas and camp. He will play out his final season and move on. Any retirement or sitting out regular season will only hurt his value. This really is playing out for the best for the organization.

Not the best for the organization unless you trade that value. That is provided you can't get him to sign. It is a fail with anything less.

THIS, it would be nice if they could let Mr.Bell negotiate a trade offer to see the market value of this ONCE in a GENERATION talent............ I'm for getting a value out of him because I don't think his heart will be in this coming season.

Salute the nation

If he doesn't show up until week ten, I suspend him for the rest of the season for conduct detrimental to the team. We will have learned to live without him by then.

Correct but the Steeelers decision is about what's best for the Steelers and winning a SB. Now that we cannot sign any free agents, we can only hope they nail their first 2 draft picks and they can start day 1 and play like seasoned veterans all year long.
