Steelers First Pick Will Be Best Defensive Player Available

Exactly what I'm thinking at this point. Either Alexander or Apple in rd 1 unless they LOVE Butler...which is very possible.
Imagine a guy at the NT position that can stop the run and collapse the pocket on pass downs. That would be huge for this defense.
In the end, I think we resign McClendon and negate the need for NT in rd 1.
I'm thinking our draft goes something like this.

1. Mackensie Alexander CB
2. Su'a Cravens SS
3. Josh Garnett OG
4. Dak Prescott QB

I know, I know...a QB this high? I would be upset by it too.
However, there is smoke with this fire. The STeelers have shown more than passing interest in him this offseason.
Along with looking at Kessler and the guy from Oregon suggests they are looking for a good future backup.

I'd be alright with Alexander in 1, mixed feelings on him but he's alright.

Cravens followed by an OG would be a D grade at best imo

Don't think there's a chance Prescott is there in the 4th for our pick, if he was I'd love the pick...think he may be gone before we pick in the 3rd.

1-25 CB Jackson III
2-25 SS K. Joseph
3-25-DT A. Johnson
4-25 OG C.Westerman

DB's will be going early and often. I think there's better value elsewhere in the 1st. But if they want a Good DB, this is where they are gonna have to take him.

1. Apple/Alexander
2. Joseph
3. OG
4. DT/DE

I could see us taking another OLB in round 1 if the value is there. Harrison hasn't officially said he's coming back has he, I'm sure he will, but he is 37, and Jarvis is garbage, 5 career sacks, so neither of them may be here next year.

I'd love to have a DT to push the pocket, but with them playing so few snaps, it's hard to justify using a #1 on that position. No matter what we do need another guy along the Dline to keep Heyward and Tuitt fresh. It'd be great to have a big guy to push the middle of the pocket and use a 3DL-3LB formation sometimes, instead of always only 2DL.

Yes Harrison is coming back next season.

Also you would of thought they would have thrown McClendon and/or McCullers in regularly to spell Tuit and Heyward last season but we hardly if ever saw it if it even happened at all. The exact reason why I hope we don't go DL in round one. To much depth at the position in the later rounds to justify a day one pick at NT for 18 snaps a game.

Jarvis stinks and Harrison has 1 yr left. Don't be surprised if we grab an OLB in rd 1, although I don't think we will. Spence would be interesting though. I would def take Spence in rd 2, but prob not rd 1 due to character.

Anyone know when Jarvis' contract is up? Probably pretty soon, I think. So that too can come into play, where they may not want to commit to him w a new contract, Deebo is gone, and there's a huge hole at ROLB. And we know it usually takes a year or two for a rook to get up to speed, so they may very well go OLB hunting in this draft.

Might be onto something Tibs, an OLB or OT wouldn't surprise me a bit...I'd actually predict one of those 2 over a CB in the first unless someone we have rated very high drops.

Jarvis is up after this year and 5th yr option will be 8 mil, which they wont pick up unless he has a amazing year...which we know he wont. That's why an OLB in rd 1 or 2 is not crazy.

1. Cb
2. OLB
3. Safety
4. Guard or DL

CB or if there is a star at Safety. NT not worth a first rounder anymore unless he can play most if not all sets/downs. Plus there is a lot of good DT's available so they can go round two there. If there is a slam dunk at Outside Linebacker I'd still take him. Harrison is as close to done as you can be and Jones is a never was.

We didn,t pass on Peters last year as he was selected prior to our pick....I was much happier with our lb pick than Jones at lb a couple years earlier ...
I've said this in several threads, go figure, and I too believe the pick will be on defense but the question is what position warrants the most need? Personally, I'd like an NT/DT but, Alexander has the skill set we passed on last year in Marcus Peters...that's too much to pass IMO. Is WJIII as good as Alexander? It's a good problem to have right now...
