Steelers fans rated 5th best

I live in a small town in Wyoming. Our whole county is only 15k people. Lots of Steelers fans here. I've seen games in Denver, San Diego, and Phoenix. Away fans are better than home fans. Not sure why. Been to Heinz Field many times. Just a different vibe.

At Three Rivers Stadium it was more inconvenient to get up and go to the bathroom / concessions / place to watch areas than it is here at Heinz Field. Heinz Field has many places to watch the game that are not in your seat, this is a fact many forget about. Open concourses with TVs, the round abouts exiting, VIP boxs to name a few and people use those areas extensively. I myself went to a game when the OPEN endzone area was still there. I stood there 3/4 of the game. I got great photos etc.. So to just say the empty seats are people leaving is not fully true. I think people assume an empty seat is someone who has left when in reality it is just someone who is in a different place. I realize some have actually left but that % is no different than any other stadium.

Sadly the open end concourse is gone. It's filled with seats now. Loved that spot.

Also Green bay, win or lose, their fans never leave early.

I seen them leave early at Heinz. I know it is on the road, but close enough? lulz

Before I forget also I know some fans leave a little early to avoid traffic issues as Pittsburgh traffic can get nasty quickly....

So I'm sitting in the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium 1000 miles from Pittsburgh and I'm in awe from the 35,000 plus fans who have invaded that stadium top to bottom.

5th?..hahaha

uh huh

suuuure.

Loads and loads of Pitt-area people relocate to the J-ville area. And a lot of people who haven't yet moved there do after they visit by going to a Steeler game at Bank Field.

When you see all those Steeler fans at the stadium, most already live down in NE FL. But many of those who just came to visit end up moving there.

What year? Was there many times in early 2000’s every year got less and less cause the mayor had to tell fans not to sell tix to us
I remember my first Sunday night game there the whole upper deck was nothing but terrible towels flying.

Of course tailgate lot was 99 percent black and gold

The effort to NOT sell tix to Steelers fans was increased and ramped up a few years ago, and it worked. The eye test looked like Steeler fan attendance went from about 40% down to, ummmmm, 25-30%. It was a noticeable decrease of Steeler fan in total attendance. At the height, it was nearly 50-50. And, yes, Jag fan gets visibly annoyed at our presence tailgating.

We have better away fans than home fans. We're behind Green Bay, the Pats, and Dallas on the home front.

Empty seats, leaving early, quiet stadiums, and I'm driving from 200-300 miles out to scream my head off. Tried to get shushed by Yinzers saying I'm rooting too loud. I tell them to watch the game at home, where they won't have to worry about it.

This. I remember when I went to Heinz Field ,I got there 3 hours early and stayed to the end. I was shocked at how many fans started filing out before it was over. Now ,of course I spent thousands of $$$ to go to Pitt and see my team,so it was a little different. So when I see the road games with all the devout Steelers fans there,it is a little different as well. I would assume most don’t get a big opportunity to see the Steelers as often as they want,so they make the most of it.

Let’s face it.....the home fans get a little spoiled. If they really want to see a game they can go to any one....as long as they are willing to pay.
The excuse that the seats start emptying early because of traffic, yeah, like that doesn’t happen to any major event in any city.

As far as crazy home fans, from what I have seen on tv,I would say KC,Cleveland,The Bills and Green Bay must rank up there. I have been to several Seahawks games because they are the team closest to Vancouver. I can’t even imagine a louder stadium, fan base than this. Rain or shine. It’s almost too much, everyone standing and going nuts every frigging play.

Is it now closed up enough that the sounds don't escape? 3 Rivers was way louder because it was all closed in. You could feel the noise. Heinz? Not so much when I was there but last time was a few years ago.

Not to the same extent. Pitt is unique in that the city has 3 rivers enveloping downtown. Why it makes for a chilled out vibe overall, it makes it a mess to disperse traffic in a timely manner. All those bridges.

Jville has rivers too, but getting out of downtown after a game is way quicker than in Pitt. It pretty much moves steady but in Pitt you can sit still in traffic for a long time, not even moving.

Stop polluting the thread. It's about the fans. The closing in happened 4 years ago. You don't live here but you're a traffic spert. GG.

You said it right.!

Well,I think I will stand by my statement. I have yet to be to an event when you pump 50,000 plus people out in a city, and there isn’t major traffic. You should come to Vancouver. Surrounded by water and mountains, bridges only way out or in. Pitt is not unique in that situation.

It is louder, and the winds are more manageable kicking toward the 'open' end.

I drive from Philly and now Baltimore. I drive back home after the games, and I never leave early. Traffic moves, so that's not an excuse. Plus there are only 8 home games that matter. Plan your day. This is a Steeler day, and then you don't have to worry about traffic, you are there for the atmosphere!

I know it isn't what I do I am a stay to the end type. But unfortunately not everyone follows what should be the golden rule.

EVEN when I'm at my favorite "redhead's" establishment, I stay to the end, regardless of who's on top..............

Now for those of you with the "naughty" thoughts, just clean them right up. The STEELERS can be up by 20 or down by 20 and I stay to the end. Sometimes I'm the ONLY one left but I do stay. She happens to manage the Sport's Bar I watch all STEELERS games at.
