With time running out for teams to designate a franchise player, it is expected the Steelers will do so with Le’Veon Bell by tomorrow’s 4pm deadline. The Steelers and Bell had been optimistic that a deal could have been done even as early as Feb. 20, but progress has staled. The sticking point most likely […]

Ridiculous just meet each other half way already, ****.

Bell is not worth the money or the risk. Let him go or trade him. With the cap space, we can re-load the defense, and draft his replacement or sign one for 1/5 of the price in free agency.

Bell can be cancer and a distraction. I still think he's an off the field risk. I promise whoever is running the ball will average better than 4.0 per rush.

Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock.

I expect a tag, the one that allows another team to take him for two first-round picks.

Might teams be re-thinking the franchise tag in 2019?. Half the time, the players are not worth it. For example the Miami Dolphins have Jarvis Landry. No way he's worth 18 million a year!

Bell already showed last year that he was unwilling to meet the Steelers on any way except for his way.

Look for a bunch of restructures today, and possibly cuts, to make room for Bell's tag.

I'm not sure they have to be in compliance until he actually signs it or not?

So we can expect him to show up for practice the day before the 1st regular season game.

He signed his tag/contract the Monday of week 1 last season. I would expect the same unless they can negotiate a long term contract before the deadline to do so with franchise tagged players. I can't imagine they will tag him 3 years in a row. This will likely be his last year in black n gold unless he signs a long term contract.

Toussaint wouldn't

This is why you aren't a GM of a team.

The only way you do what you are suggesting is if you have a succession plan in place. Currently there is none. Connor is a bit of an unknown, and there is no FA available that would even come close to replicating the skill set Bell has for this offense.

I see no team willing to give up 2 first rounders on a RB worth one only one contract due to age and miles.

Cope, I thought they don't have to be under the cap in compliance until the start of the new league year (when FA begins).

EDIT: Justin answered it right before I posted. LOL

Man I am so tired of this ****. Let it end 1 way or another

I believe the Steelers went past half way with their offer last season.

Well, now, here’s an interesting stat: since the #Steelers drafted Le’Veon Bell in 2013, they’ve played 66 games w/ him and 21 w/out him. They’ve averaged the EXACT SAME 25.3 ppg w/ and w/out him.

The answer is March 14. Have to be under the cap by then.

Thing is if he is holding out not signing, he costs zilch. Nada . Unless I am grasping it wrong. So the Steelers are under until that happens.

I get what you are saying, but Bell isn't worth what he wants. Someone will probably give it to him, but it probably won't be the Steelers. Bell's best attributes are catching out of the backfield and blitz pick up. As a runner, he is a dime a dozen, just slower. I don't know if pass catching and blocking are worth the 9 million he wants over the next highest paid guy. 12-14 million is excessive. I don't see any team paying him 17 million a year.

Not true. Once he's designed tomorrow it will count against the cap. Steelers will have until New league year starts (14th) to be in compliance. It was explained to me by someone in the know.

In all these debates one thing isn't mentioned often. It is he runs behind a damned good O-line. Not diminishing what he is as a player. I will let others do that. But if he were to go elsewhere he isn't guaranteed the same success.

Oh ok. That kind of sucks. Because he technically isn't under contract until he is signed but yet their is a cap hit before that. Someone needs to change that guideline.

Yeah, I kind of understand the NFLs point though. Teams could just designate someone to screw them from getting a shot at FA. Then recind the offer way down the road and it wouldn't of cost the team anything.

This is an important factor. Look at Zeke Elliot. The guy isn't Superman. You look a lot better when you get 5 yards down the field before you have to make a guy miss or break a tackle.

If the Steelers don’t franchise Bell, I predict he ultimately signs (with whomever) for considerably less than he would have received under the franchise tag. Franchising Bell is like something Daniel Snyder would have done 20 years ago when he repeatedly tried to buy a championship.
