Steelers - Doran Grant

Hard to believe Grant lasted as long as he did given how teams can't get enough CBs these days. But you could have said the same thing about M. Bryant last year and we should just consider ourselves lucky.

If Shamarko struggles in camp or during the season, I wouldn't be surprised to see them move Doran to FS and slide Mitchell over to SS. He offers more at that spot than Will Allen or Golden. Of course, that's assuming that he hasn't taken Cortez's spot on the outside.

Doran Grant is a decent prospect, IMO.

He reminds me of a guy I really liked last year in EJ Gaines. Grant is taller by 3/4" and was better in just about everything else by a smidge. Gaines is a bit more aggressive in run support and can get off blocks better BUT if Grant does as well as gaines did in year 1...we may have something. Gaines started day 1 at LCB and played every game til the end of the year when he got concussed.

After years of chasing height/weight/speed prospects (Shaquille Richardson, Terry Hawthorne, Crezdon Butler et al) I'm stoked we may have found not one, but two solid corners in this draft. The trick may have been to ignore physical traits and look for proven talent on the field. Both Grant and Golson should not only make the team but vie for quality playing time. Not much more you can ask for, after all the previous corners flamed out...
