Steelers Deserve A Forfeit Victory If The Bills Are Awarded One

I am reading that a forfeit means the players don't get paid. That is pretty huge news.

I heard on the radio something similar although it seemed to be also be tied to the total number of games each team played (something like 12 was the minimum) but I did not catch entire broadcast so did not get all the information. But, yes, players want to get paid I am sure.

Beyond that, as others mentioned are seeding/tie breaker concerns. What is the score of a forfeited game?

Draft order as well.

interesting point although the concern, I am sure, had to do with players having tested negative but are still contagious. It can take 5-7 days to show up in tests per Doc David Cho on NFL radio. That said, when we do play the makeup game, I would have no issue with the players who were tested positive for the first game were forced to sit out.

That very well may be, but if it takes an additional 5 to 7 days to show up, how then would you explain the Patriots/Chiefs game being played on October 5th, when Cam Newton tested positive on October 2nd, just 3 days earlier?

The issue with the Titans, is they never had a day without new positives. If the Pats or KC kept getting positves, they would have extended the delays. In the Titans case, with new positives every day, there is a chance to infect the team you are playing against.

Good point. Then the Titans should be held accountable, shouldn't they?

Just ran the numbers. If the Steelers have a forfeit awarded and they don't pay the players, they would earn about $5.5M against the cap.

That is 1/16th of their current salary total of $85.7M

I simply relayed information reported by a Doctor interviewed on NFL radio. I won't speculate as to the NFL's decisions regarding the Titans situation vs. the Pats situation. But, to be transparent, I think the Rog is awful.

the players should get paid but it shouldn't count against the cap

Said to my son last night I think the when games are "made up" that the team with COVID players that caused the miss should not play.
If a game is cancelled, the forfeiting team should pay the salaries of the other teams players.

I see no reason why they cannot insert another bye week right now for every team and like week 15-16-17-or 18. With no hockey until January and no fans, why not move the dates of these final couple games and use that bye to schedule any lost game from here on out. That would cover all teams except a team unfortunate enough to get more than one postponement. They could do this right now.

That would be PRO_action where-as the "rog" is only use to re-action.

6Lombardis, you definately have the right idea and I'd be all for inserting spacer weeks for all teams

Steelers vs Titans should not have been postponed. This is why rosters were expanded. They should have quarantined the positive players and just played with whoever was left. That's how it's going in college. I think VA Tech played without like 20 players last week. I know colleges have biggers rosters but Tenn didn't have 20 guys sick either.

The NFL can always take away the bye between the Championships and the Super Bowl. It seems doubtful that there will be a bunch of events like media day and such. Likely won't even be a full stadium of fans so players won't need all that time to deal with distractions of getting tickets and travel arrangements for friends and family.

The NFL should have given every team a 2nd by week this year. If you recall, teams did have 2 byes way back when bye weeks started but everybody hated it so they cut down to 1 bye week. For this season they absolutely should have done that to give more wiggle room.

Haven't paid attention, are all teams good to go this weekend?

I just saw this this morning.

Titans-Bills, Bills-Chiefs, Patriots-Broncos All Rescheduled
The Tennessee Titans matchup with the Buffalo Bills has officially been moved from Sunday to Tuesday at 6 p.m. Bills-Chiefs in turn has been shifted from Thursday night to Sunday. Patriots/Broncos has also been rescheduled from Sunday to Monday night.

My initial idea to quit watching NFL football may have been a better decision than the one I ended up doing. Watching just Steeler Football may not shield me from the total idiocy that will follow the game all season. My limited mental abilities are already being taxed by the decisions and their changes to the basic format due to virus rules, symptoms and schedule interruptions. I can't fathom what will be left to sift thru by the end of the season. The political scene already has me ODing on popcorn, so that is not an option.

Looks like I will need to make a choice between methylphenidate or Purple Haze in order to exit this season with my remaining facilities intact.

SteelChip, we are here with you on this. What ever you do.... Don't give us up here at STEELERNATION.COM as your contribution in these chats is greatly appreciated both in knowledge and humor.

I don't have the answers but sooner or later teams, the **** currently, are going to run out of re-scheduling room.

I suggest this.....

1). All teams give up what is known as a bye week.

2). NFL inserts spacer weeks which all teams take off EXCEPT those making up games, rest NFL gets week off

3). I can ONLY guess spacer week quantity but 4 could be the majic number. But float down the schedule and only schedule them when needed. YES, some may not get a week off at all but that would be due to C-19 AND we are in strange times.

YES, there are "holes" in this plan but what does the current plan have that is fair??? Current plan is headed for cancellation of games and possibly season.

At the moment, Tennessee is the major culprit, throwing a monkey wrench in the NFL gears.

While other teams may pop up as the season progresses, it started with them, the Titans should be done for the year, their failure to follow protocol needs to have a consequence.

I don't know DIC, this is progressing further and further into La-La Land. I read this morning that,,,,

Imagine your team losing a game over a 15-yard face-covering penalty. It could happen as soon as this week in the NFL after clubs were informed Friday that “any individual who approaches an official without a face covering is subject to a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, as well as possible fines, suspensions and forfeiture of draft picks,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.
https://www.outkick.com/nfl-refs-now-allowed-to-flag-teams-for-face-covering-violations/

That is the new normal ? Games and future draft picks will now be determined by mask and social distancing violations ? I thought the social justice warriors were the end but evidently I was wrong.

This new NFL looks to me to be following the California format. Piss people off to the point they no longer see the good in the sport but want to leave the area before they lose their own sanity.

And the Goodell minions keep spewing the same mantra.....

Well, football ain't like crack....at least not for me. My patience is waning fast and plan 'B' is sitting in the driveway.

Well said SteelChip, well said. If it wasn't for my LIFETIME addiction to the STEELERS, I'd be gone from football. Hell, it's not even real football anymore but just a ghost of the game. Integrety has been missing for quite some time now and the game has been manipulated for WAY longer than most will admit so outcomes are steered.

When I watch, NOT TV but limited highlight version (YouTube) of my STEELERS there is the memory of the good O'l days that come to mind. That allure is part of what keeps me watching. This place here is like family so I also LOVE that aspect as well and will keep posting here. I'm not ready to fully give up but have given up all but my beloved STEELERS or steeler related. (I do catch scores)

Everyone will make their decisions and fumble through but MOSTLY I hope each and everyone of you continue here.

Yeah, I hear ya DIC. This site IS special, Justin and the SN members have been very supportive of me and my family. Dumping this site for the NFL stupidity is not my aim. Like you I am a Steeler fan by birth and that was many many moons ago. I have said before that watching Steeler football surreptitiously maybe the best I can do for the team but leaving the SN is not in the cards as of yet anyway.

The NFL now...that's a whole different story
