The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering one of the most important free agent periods in their history. They have to get better, both in the short- and long-term. New head coach Mike McCarthy has been hired with the expectation of a "win-now" team. That aligns with the veteran roster they currently have in 2026. The team has to get younger however, faster, and do so quickly. They've wasted no time making moves already, cutting former Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith this week, and committing to tight end Pat Freiermuth. Addition by subtraction can work at some positions for the Steelers, as they did at tight end. However, this free agency class is not your typical class, and the Steelers will have to get creative to make any substantial moves this offseason.
