Steelers brought in ex Giants LB coach to work with the defense this week.

So, if they do nothing, we complain, and when they try something, it is shameful or an embarrassment?

This is a copycat league. Someone finds a blue print that is successful and others copy it until it gets stopped and then on to the next trend. Teams have been spreading us out and negating the 3-4 since Rich Gannon in the EARLY 2000s. Why the **** haven't we adjusted our defensive scheme against the spread offense?

Guess who beat the Cheats and ended that perfect season? The NY Giants. They got pressure on Marcia and gave him twinkle toes. You can't site back and get picked apart. You must blitz and bring 5 to hit his *** or he will find an open receiver. The same holds true for any QB who can go through his progressions. When we adjust to this and actually pressure the QB and force bad throws we will beat these teams. The Eagles figured it out last year but got derailed by all their injuries this season. That's the kind of football that won us Super Bowls with our OLBs creating pressure.

I'm just glad they are trying something, but anyone with half a brain should be able to see the 2 DL set gets killed vs good QBs, especially Brady, shouldn't need anyone to tell them that. All the top defenses in the NFL use at least 3linemen on all downs including passing downs. Yet we run 2 DL on the goal line some times

Was it Rooney that brought in the help? If it was maybe he is starting to see the problem.

yes. we can do both

The real question is what took them so long to do something like this?

Right? Running the same **** to the same **** result is insanity so at least someone is saying "hey guys, let's try a little something different maybe?" What blows me away is they (under Lebeau in 2011) did just that, and they dominated the game for the most part. Granted, the Steelers had a great offensive game plan that Ben ran to perfection that had them dominate TOP, but they were bumping guys at the line and playing a tighter man coverage scheme.

How they've never been able to duplicate that is beyond me. Do they not think they have the horses or are they really that stubborn?

Oh and the game I'm referring to is the Halloween game (I believe) in 2011. Heath and Ben went off I remember, just methodically shredding the NE defense apart.

It depends on what they try. You'd think that since Tomlin is a defensive mastermind and his DC that he wanted so bad that they shitcanned DL, that they wouldn't need someone from outside. It's weird to me. How can an outsider fix YOUR defense? IF that guy can fix it maybe he should have the job to start with?

It is nothing but a vote of no confidence in Tomlin , Butler and Porter. Of course this guy was a whopping 4-10 against the Pats and if he is not bringing Strahhan in his prime and a 10 fingered JPP all his talk is more bullshit. Just trying to make Tomlin not look like the do nothing POS he has always been.

If Shades was a defensive genius you'd think he'd figure out to cover the middle against the Pats*****. If I correctly understand what I heard on the radio, Br*dy's passing stats and QB rating versus the Steelers are the highest on record for one QB against another team since the 1970 merger.

This is a message sent to cool shades and company.
It's a friendlier slap in the face. I think Rooney is finally waking up to this bs product that Tomlin constantly puts out

Just fire Butler and Porter and make this guy the DC now.

I dunno. If you want to do that then put a $100 million bonus in his contract if he beats Belicheat and Br*dy.

Watching chargers vs Chiefs it is apparent as how to attack high flying offenses like the Chiefs: rush 4 drop everyone else keep the ball in front of the defenders. The chargers defensive coordinator is Gus Bradley who built the Seattle Legion of Boom, he mixes press coverage on the outside, safety over the top two safeties two linebackers... it fuking works. So much of the west coast offense utilizes receivers run routes side line to sideline, east to west, finding holes in zone coverages. The “boom” defense utilizes “sliding” linebackers and safeties, covering those holes confusing the qb. All you need is the few seconds of confusion to get qb out of his comfort zone. Everytime the qb lines up the offense he see 8 men in the box but not the old three linebackers and a safety he’s see something different every time he lines the offense up. He doesn’t know if it’s an extra safety, a db or linebacker or blitzer... which is why it’s also the perfect defense to zone blitz out of. Because eight men are in the box this defense is effective against the run and run pass option. This defense has its roots in the Tampa two and the Steel curtain. The 3-4 and hybrid 2-4 have been gamed. They are the biggest reason qbs like Brady, Brees, and the young guns are shooting up the nfl. Lame defenses. If bringing in Hermann is a step towards a 4 man line it’s a step in the right direction.

You guys are just mad because Tomlin has pulled out all the stops to releasing hell..

I don't see how this doesn't undermine the coaches. How can the players have confidence that the coaches know what they are doing if they have to bring in outside help to get it done?
Pretty sure our LB coach is the reason, but he’s great at being there for them when a fights gonna happen!

Okay, on the surface, this looks like a desperate move. But BB, when he signs a player from a team he's going to play soon that afterwards he cuts -- is that desperation? Or a guy who wants all the intel he can get?

It seems like nowadays this coaching staff can't do anything right. Let's see what happens Sunday and then make our emotional, alcohol-fueled decisions then.

Yur all just wasting a bunch of spit talking about this below average defense, they will never be any good no matter what coaching or schemes u try.

They are all a bunch of Average Joes, at best, without a single game changer. They will never win this team any games.

This team is all about Ben.

**** the defense, just try not to embarrass yur selves too bad and hold Gronk under 200 yds, lol

Good point, but in fairness, it seems like nowadays this coaching staff can't do anything right.

It'll be like that one Congressman said about rape, "You might as well lie back and enjoy it". I am under no illusions that they will win this game (although I'll be pleasantly surprised if they do), I'm just going to sit back and see how bad the beatdown will be. Upside, the worse it is the closer Mikey Cool Shades is to the exit door.

Pats***** run defense is among the worst in the league so look for Shades and Fictner to pass a lot since running the ball is just what they'll be expecting.
