By Brandon J. Wallace SteelerNation.com PITTSBURGH, PA – Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger finalized a contract extension that locks the signal-caller in black and gold through 2021. Details of the deal have not yet been reported.  Ironically, April 24th also represents another significant moment for the future Hall of Fame QB and […]

Good deal. Hard to believe it's been 15 years....Seems like just yesterday he was drafted

Yep it's crazy! I remember going to watch my dad bowl in November and Miami (OH) was on ESPN at the bowling alley, I told my dad, I'd love for us to draft him. Leading up to the draft, thought no way in hell he'd be there. I was in the East Club Lounge at Heinz Field when they made that pick, you'd think we just won the Super Bowl, the place went crazy, except one guy who was extremely pissed stormed out swearing, haha.

I'm gonna be honest. I will gauge his desire to win another championship based upon the numbers of this contract. Certainly dont expect him to play for nothing, but it is two maybe three years. He has made his money. Now its about legacy. Very limited opportunity, but you better maximize. Especially next season.l

Hahaha Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb (aka Andrew Fillaponi and Chris Mueller) on the fan say extending Ben was stupid, should've let him play this final year, then if he played well, franchise him.

63 million dollars is the extension I'm reading on twitter.

As I said in the other Ben thread, having his numbers that high for only a 2 year extension will put a serious hurt on our cap for next year and especially the final year. We're looking at probably $30+ million next year and maybe over $40 million in 2021.

I don't see it that way. I think the Steelers will be fine cap wise. They know how to adjust when needed.

I would think the final year 2021 wouldn't be guaranteed in case they wanted to move on with Rudolph or someone else at that point, we should be clear of the guaranteed money by then, no?

I don’t like it. I would rather package a deal with Ben for draft picks. This team is rebuilding with so many needs. Realistically this team will be lucky to make the playoffs before before Bens contact is over. Add a lot of young talent now and go with Rudolph while he’s cheap.

what makes you think the steelers would have signed any good FAs if ben took less?
why should ben take less if he doesnt feel the team is doing their best to win?

They'll figure it out but at $68 million for 2 years, most will hit that last year. I don't think they have ever had close to a $30 million cap hit, let alone a $40 million hit assuming he plays that last year. They better have a damn good draft this year to sustain them through this contract as they probably won't be signing any free agents.

The QB is about 60-70% of what is needed to win a championship in today's NFL. If a team has one, they have a shot.

The Steelers have some weaknesses, but no more than most of the other teams expected to contend in 2019.

Sorry if I'm not all that thrilled. Extending Ben essentially extends Tomlin as well since Ben will keep him employed.

Whatever. I’d like to see some stats on this.

I feel BB has always been underpaid and has given this team the opportunity to spend money elsewhere. He easily could have been demanding top dollar over and over but didn’t. I thought we were ****** when he seen Bert get his 100mill. Could be completely wrong, but it just felt like he was giving the Steelers fair deals

Ben is STILL performing at the highest level and one could argue he had the 2nd best season of a QB last year.

Kobe Bryant got extended the final 2 years of his career, but was a shell of his former self. It was quite ugly to watch

Enjoy Ben while we can guys.....He is still rockin it & I look for this to be his best MOST COMPLETE YEAR

i wish tomlin would prove all his naysayers wrong. he should voluntarily quit and sign with a terrible team. he then could show his coaching awesomeness with no franchise qb or organization stability, and lift his new team to greatness.
