Steelers Alejandro Villanueva: ‘I Threw My Teammates Under The Bus Unintentionally’

On pages A62-63 of the league rulebook, it states:

“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition.”

And if Trump kept his fat yap shut about it, none of this **** would have happened. You tell these players to stick to sports, tell that orange pig to stay in his ******* lane.

**** that dude.

Oh, so the kneelers have a right to express political views, they are so brave, look at them, blah, blah.

Disagree with their position? Hatred, vitriol, threats, violence.

Brilliant discussion of the 1st amendment.

Dumb ******* kneeling during the National anthem are too stupid to realize they have the right to protest because of the thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of Americans who fought and died for the nation - them - and the 1st amendment. So they show their anger at racism, or cops shooting guys (12 out of thousands, but ****, racism, right??), or healthcare, or what-the-****-ever by kneeling as a sign of disrespect to the people who fought and killed for them and died for them to give them that right.

**** those millionaire cocksuckers who fake concern, cash their checks, and soak up the protection of the armed forces and police to protect their gated homes and $90,000 cars.

Somebody got to him, obviously, probably Tomlin put the screws to him

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Alejandro Villanueva says the national anthem ordeal got out of control and he is taking the blame.

“Unfortunately I threw my teammates under the bus, unintentionally,” Villanueva said. “Every single time I see that picture of me standing by myself I feel embarrassed,” Villanueva said in a press conference Monday.

Villanueva was the only Steelers player standing outside the tunnel for the national anthem before their game Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

The rest of the team remained in the tunnel.

“I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault, and my fault only,” Villanueva said. “We as a team tried to figure it out, but obviously butchered it.”

Nice ****** narrative. The war hero whos word is beyond reproach to you says what you dont want to hear so he was forced to say it by the coach.

I wonder what Vince Lombardi would say

“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. Would Cowboys have pulled that move if the game was in Texas?

I believe they stood when the flag came out. Something small before the flag, I have no problem with it. Just so they stand. Also we will need the media to STFU. If some how possible. And talk football.

**** you all speaking out about the president. That's as bad as sitting for the Anthem. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and if grown men football players need to be ******* with hurt feelings from the Presedent said that's their problems. What a bunch of ******* ******* on here all butt hurt WWwwwaaaaa! Trump has ever right to say what he wants in this country of Freedom of speech! It also holds a mirror up to the ******* who cry at the littlest criticism. Grow up America, find your balls again, you might just need them again.

What a little *****. Go back to the patriot thread you came from. No ****** handouts here. God stop blaming someone for freedom of speech especially the first President with balls !!!

Nope. I'm surprised because on Sunday night Jerry Jones said it 100% right, "The field is no place for a protest". Then he takes the field in protest with his team.??

I understand where Al is coming from, but i think it's really sad that he feels that he has to apologize to his teammates after what he has been through. As a vet or anyone really you should never in any circumstance have to apologize for standing up for your flag.

The rules&regulations only apply when they want them to. Much like politicians.

No Al. You did not make your teammates look bad. THEY made themselves look bad. All of them should have been on the field standing.

It should be any American. I doubt you will find many who haven't had a relative fight for America at some point in time. My grandfather fought in world war 2 in 101st, his uncle world war 1, several fought for the union in the civil war. And many men marched across Pennsylvania to join Washington during the Revolutionary war.

Play football. Don't have some giant flag spread across the field one week while you **** on it the next. It's just bad business and terribly misguided. Take some of your millions and do something positive. Put your money where your knee is.

Kudos to Big Al for believing in his beliefs and being able to understand and respect someone else's who feels differently

and still sticking by his beliefs too ! good man !

I'm not sure you read the actual article of the link you posted.
There are no pages A62 - A63 in the NFL Rulebook and the actual 2017 version of the NFL Rulebook makes no mention of the National Anthem at all.
The NFL Operations Manual is what's being referenced now but has not been verified at this point. But even the NFL employee referencing the Operations Manual says National Anthem MUST be played and teams MUST be on the sideline for National Anthem. Everything after that says the teams SHOULD.

Now I'm a stand for the flag no matter what kind of guy, and think it's an inappropriate time to protest disdain for the sitting president.
But I'm more a facts guy and want to disseminate fake news kind of guy.

You bet your *** he threw the rest of them under the bus. Maybe he’s more of an attention ***** than we thought. I know it’s hard for some of you to think but yes big Al made this about himself. Fine him.

Did Jerry Jones need help getting up after kneeling? What a putz.

As to the AV presser, the line that got me was when he mentioned disabled vets texting him about having to be out there for the anthem. Good for him. If I break my self-imposed boycott of purchasing NFL merchandise, it will be to get an AV jersey.

Again I hear they stood for the flag, isn't that all that matters?

This makes Tomlin and the organization look even worse than it already had. Villanueva made a statement yesterday, and now this one contradicts it, which shows he was forced to make it. I guess Villanueva does not have the freedom to honor our flag and this will be an even larger backlash than what has already happened. Too bad, but this is what happens when you have a lack of leadership on the team, which also shows on the field, as well as no PR person!

Did Ben change his tune and say if knew AI was in the tunnel he was going to stand with him?

Standing out there like a big selfish idiot saying look at me, look at how great I am. Going back on his word.
