Steelers acquire safety Wilcox from Tampa Bay

How good is he really? He's just 25 and both Dallas and Tampa have let him go.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

He wasn't fitting Tampa's scheme doesn't mean he won't fit ours.

He is a instant upgrade over Golden and that in itself makes it worth it.

The Bucs were high on TJ. Ward and after getting him it made Wilcox expendable.

When you are improving your greatest weaknesses, you are giving yourself a fighting chance to achieve something great.

More than likely up this will give Mitchell an extra week, possible two then GOLDEN is adios amigo gone by by don't let the door hit yaz where the good lord split yaz outtA here.

The thing is, he's a hard hitter but not great in coverage. In these days of the NFL, I think I'd rather my safety be good in coverage and just a sure tackler. I'll take him though.

interesting question though

was he signed to be a upgrade over Golden or because of a injury to Dangerfield or a still hobbling Mitchell

or a combination of all three?

What led up to the signing is irrelevent as to the bottom line is he will be an upgrade who makes us a better team and that is what it's all about.

Yinz put your right hand in, you put your right hand out. You put your right hand in, and shake it all about.

Colbert after signing his two year extension, taking a cue from LeVeon: "That's what happens when you pay me. Put the money on the table and I get **** done. I work like there's no tomorrow. I'll keep trading till I'm good and done. Who's gonna stop me? GM of the year *******, that's what this looks like. Two year contract? Two year contract for the Champ? Better make that a five year contract, *******."

Throws back a glass of whiskey and waddles off to some Tupac blaring on his earphones.

ONLY thing is he should be about done NOW. If you mess with to many parts you have a new machine with dial in time and we don't neccessarily have that time. Colbert & Co. Have done well and need to bask a little now.

So it is the Steelers VS the new Giant ****....rell in the SB.

Sound prediction.

3 years in a row adding a DB through a trade....

Meh Im not sold that the Steelers have let go of the idea that the safety position is a hit first priority... the priority should be coverage and ballhawking... and tackling... big hits arent the current way to win... and this staff has always overvalued hitters

They just drafted Sean Davis, Artie Burns and Cameron Sutton. Brian Allen looks like he could be something. Give them at least an ounce of credit. Adding Joe Haden is on a different plane than the Boykin/Gilbert trades, if you ask me.

We had a huge, gaping hole at safety so Wilcox is a much needed acquisition. Kudos to Colbert for making it happen.

Jury's out on JJ Wilcox, but kid looks big, fast and strong. Lethon Flowers approves, even if 'big hits arent the current way to win.' I think Wilcox is better in coverage than given credit for. And if on top of that he's willing to bounce some heads off the turf, I'll take it. Mike Mitchell's like that, and that's not a bad thing, imo.

At worse, TJ's got a new brother named JJ in the locker room. Can't be a bad thing.

I do agree they have been lacking at safety so Wilcox is a much needed acquisition. Kudos to Colbert for making it happen.

I was just pointing out that the Steelers have added dbs in the past that the team rarely played.... I don't know if this guy clicks or not, but our track record for first year dbs brought in from outside is pretty meh... even Mitchell wasn't great year one...

They have addressed every weakness

every.

They have to take it from paper and apply it to the field.

But as a fan they have done all I have asked for short of winning a recent SB.

The talent is there now to give it a shot.

All these aggressive moves show that that steelers believe they have a Super Bowl team.

For years, they have gone by a philosophy of building through the draft, developing your own talent, then only using free agency to fill cracks. Just look at all the time they gave to guys like Ziggy and Jarvis to develop. They still want to develop players like Burns and Davis but are not going to wait for guys who are "below the line".

Wilcox is a great addition because he is a starting caliber player who can be a great depth player if Mitchell returns.

This version is a talent upgrade that has proven it on the field. That alone should help be a difference in results this time around.

I remember him really standing out when the Cboys played us last year. He popped Leveon pretty good more than once.

We've made some great moves this year! Its the bizarro season.

This is a good move. If nothing else, it upgrades the depth at the position (which was awful prior to this move). Realistically, he's an insurance policy for Mitchell. Hamstring injuries are tough and it could be something that hampers him all season.

We could possibly see Wilcox playing more of an extra safety/linebacker along with Mitchell and Davis. The kid has experience in this role which could mean more legitimate man coverage.

What is a contributor to all these moves by the FO was the change to the cut down time frame. All these transactions are a representative of having all the cut players at once clearing waivers or being FA. During the 75/53 cut down, teams had time to evaluate and review more specifically players. Now it's a free for all. KC actually said he doesn't like the new cut down timeframe.
