Looking back at some past Stillers yoi! double yoi! cornerbacks that unfortunately come to mind for mostly the wrong reasons. You had -for goodness sake- Antwon Blake, Brandon - must be- Boykin -someone to even still be in the NFL, Justin -the factory of sadness -Gilbert, Crezdon- I served the wideouts passes like a - Butler, Joe -no not yet -Burnett, DeMarcus -yike! Van Dyke. And the laundry list of free agent scrubs and misfired draft picks goes on and on. I could be here all day thinking of shack snappy nicknames to go with the Steelers exercise of futility.

The jury is still out on Artie Burns, the Steelers 25th overall first round pick in the 2016 draft. Although last year he showed promise, he will be counted on in his second year to help improve a secondary that has been painful to watch at times. He will be fighting a history of Steelers draft picks that have been so bad, that the Canadian Football league should pay royalties for all the prospects the Steelers sent their way. Hell Artie wasn't even he Steeler first choice, as they had their eyes on a Houston CB that went to the rival Bengals. Thankfully this second choice, seems to be rounding up to be the right choice.

With Ross Cockrell's less than impressive showing in Sundays preseason game against a cast of never have been and perhaps never will be's..It has opened up the door for (4-teams in a short career)Cody Sensabaugh to get a crack at the starting lineup. And for Steelernation the hope is it isn't yet another colossal fail at a position of weakness.

While visions of the Stairway to Seven are dancing in many of fans heads, some fans still hope one of the plethora of Steelers wide-outs gets traded for the chance of a upgrade at the position. And I haven't even touched on William Gay's rapid decline, necessitating a hopefully soon to be change as well.

As Steelernation continues to grow impatient at the CB position, you have to wonder if the answer to musical chairs at corner-back will come at any time soon.

Hard to say but Hilton is going to be taking some snaps at the gay position. Could be an upgrade right there. As for the ****,...... Maybe a little rest could get him back to some of the stiff play we have seen in the past from him. MAYBE,....just maybe Sensi might surprise us and all his stars and planets along with the fear of a stiff **** riding his tail,.......... Might just turn the corner position into a safe place for him to be...

I'm still hoping on cut day someone comes available and is a imeadiately upgrade and a legitamite #2 in the NFL. A-N-D the STEELERS fron office goes after him !!!!!!!! (Noit Revis)

Salute the nation

Steelers should bring in Darelle Revis just like they brought in Willie Williams in 2004 as a seasoned veteran to help groom the young up and coming players like Ryan Clark & Troy Polamalu.

The fact that the lack of DB's is the one thing that can keep us from a Championship this year is something they need to address. Revis might not be the player he use to be but he's still a very capable DB and someone with excellent coverage skills who played through the season last year with a wrist injury which prevented him from jamming WR's at the LoS.

We need a DB who can jam at the line of scrimmage and throw off the timing passing game of the Patriots. Revis can certainly be that guy!

In a worse case scenario they need to take a page from Bellicheat and see if any of our extra WR's......DHB, Justin Hunter, Demarcus Ayers, Sammie Coates or Cobi Hamilton can flip from the offense to a DB position on the Defense! Heck Coates can't catch but he's super athletic......GET OUT THERE ON D SAMMIE!

I hate to admit it but I'm leaning toward bringing in Revis and seeing what he has to offer. Its a fan move... a what if.. . But if hes in shape and isn't asked to be "shutdown" corner everyplay.. idk.. Maybe some zone is what the guy needs?

Revis ain't happening folks.
First, there is a reason he is still sitting on the street. Second, it's too late for him to be acquired and have an impact.
The guy we just traded for is young and in football shape. Revis is older and not if football shape.
I just wish we could work a deal somehow for a starting CB. If we have to give up a premium pick - fine.
As long as you get a guy back that is worth it.

I wanted them to sign Revis months ago when it was a hot topic. I never understood the argument against it then, and I REALLY don't understand it now.

He has lost weight, been working with a new trainer, and is still barely just 32 years old. A lot of great corners play longer than that. He may have had a down year recently, but that doesn't mean he's useless, and it certainly doesn't mean he's worse than the slop we have on our roster. Bring him in, let the Jets or whoever owns his contract pay the salary. There is literally no downside. What's the harm when Cockrell is out there getting abused on every snap and Colbert is making panic trades for guys I have literally never heard of? Come on.

Really don't think this last trade is a panic move. We gave up a nobody for a nobody.

You really think Revis could walk in off the street and still be a top notch corner? He may be better than some of what we have but he was showing his age the last couple of seasons. We have a WR or two we could flip for a DB if push comes to shove.

This gets me going, along with that soft zone crap that the better Qb's slice and dice.

The NFL is a passing league, so why haven't the Steelers given the cornerback position priority in free agency or the draft until recently by picking Burns?

Why do we have cheap free agents or cut players playing prominent roles in the pass defense coverage schemes? Too many draft picks were spent on the short players with average speed, some of which can't even stay healthy.

Cockrell is a 3rd or 4th corner in a zone defense. He's not fast enough for the outside and can be man-handled by bigger WR's

Davis is a good blitzer, but I am still waiting for him to make more plays on the ball. These I'll stay off you then tackle you type of safeties aren't my cup of tea.

The only man coverage guy we have is Burns, and while I love his ability to guard his man and intercept the ball, he still needs some work on the mental part of the game.

Mitchel is far more likely to get a flag than a pick. I grow tired of his act.

Sutton better be able to play the slot or else an aging and slower William Gay will

And finally, Sensabaugh is now running with the first team. He was pretty much a low priority and cheap free agent, now he's starting the most important pre-season game. I think that sums the situation up.

To sum it up, we have Burns, a bunch of #3 or #4 corners type and a major question mark in the slot corner. We should have signed the guy New England did, a pro bowl CB in his prime, and be done with it. I also think JU-JU was a luxury pick. He might be a good player, but we are deep at WR and the opposite at CB.

The thing that bothers me is that we had a draft where they took 3 DB's, all of which seemed like pretty good picks at their spot and, at least, two created a lot of turnovers in college. WE have gotten zero out of all three of them. Two aren't on the team, one of those is out of the league, I think (Holliman). The other has done dick in Jax (Grant).

Golson is super frustrating because he appears not to have missed many (if any at all) college games with injury and hasn't been injured via contact. I don't think you can consider a dude a bust due to injury, but this is crazy. Overall an odd situation on which I don't think blame can placed on anyone. It just sucks.

Similar to Bell's first season. Workhorse in college, misses four games due to injury (which I also think was non-contact)

There's something wrong fur shur Ark, but what ?

wrong personnel
bad practice formats
bad coaching
lack of chocolate sprinkles
on field play calling
lack of proper locker room activities
unqualified physical trainers
helmets too tight

What ?

The plan is for Sutton to eventually be the starter opposite Burns. Worse case, he is the slot cb. I think Hilton or Cody will be the slot and Sutton the starter by midseason.

I wish I had an answer.

A couple of things I know:

1) That it something a bit more complicated than "Tombert sucks."
2) Sometimes **** doesn't work out, i.e. Golson. Lots of people here thought he was a reach, but there is no one that could have predicted what has happened with him. He may very well have sucked. Looks like we may never know.
3) Paying a dude $10m when he is worth $6m may fix that problem (doesn't appear to league-wide but I am sure it would work here) will cause you to have issues trying to preserve another player.

we got a steal in Sutton. he would have been a first rounder if he hadnt gotten injured his senior season (broken ankle).
Sutton and Burns will be our starting CBs for years to come.

Sutton - Burns - Davis ... all three will be anchoring the secondary. We just need to find a replacement for Bitchell.

After two pre season games no wonder concern. It hurt last year with the poor field position we had more than not when the defense could not get off the field giving up way to many third and long plays. Cockrill is still lost and really Burns hasn't been lights out for a first rounder. Davis doesn't play the ball well either. If we could find players that could see the ball would be an improvement, we never knock a pass down, then we give up to many yards after catch we have no hitters on the sideline coverage. Burns and Cockrill celebrate when a play is missed not because they caused it but bad throw or drop. We need to find some players in this position. We all hope Sutton can be a help.

How do you KNOW this???

And NO to the Revis dreams.

For you guys crapping on Burns, you guys realize that QBs don't look his way. They are victimizing ****, because he's a liability. He's not as bad as Blake, but Burns is locking down his side of the field. He will let up some plays, but I am certain he will make more plays than he lets up this year.

With an improved front that generates pressure our cbs will be better. Lots of ifs and hopes on that.

I think there is a three fold in place.

Burns improvement over year one
Dupree coming into his own.
Watt being a upgrade over Uncle Jarvis.

And that is without talking about what I perceive to be a improved D-line.

Now if we can somehow improve the gay **** combo, they might just be onto something............

**** is best as a nickel or dime zone guy, and Gay is getting older and slower.

Golson? I hear he has a new number, and to be honest I don't know what his old number was because I never saw him on the field. But the new number is 86'd

Our starting safeties had just two interceptions between them in 2017, that needs to change.

Sutton must be able to play the slot well. Otherwise, we have no slot defense.
