Steeler vs Ravens and End of Season Thoughts

Zuttah for the Ravens got pushed back into the pocket a LOT more than our guys. So much so that he tripped Flacco twice for completely lost plays.

The Ravens still found a way to win.

Every player is not perfect every play. Good coaching is anticipating where the failures are going to occur most often and planning ahead to allow successful plays to still happen even when your guys get beat at their anticipated frequency.

Zuttah is a mediocre player. How often does Yanda get pushed around for the Ravens? Pouncey and Decastro are 1st rounders who should be dominating, like Yanda. I'm not expecting zero negative plays, but Pouncey and Decastro struggle with big guys too often.

The Steelers are wet tissue paper soft on both sides of the ball, as their best players on each front (Pouncey and Decastro on the OL and Heyward and Timmons on the F7) are finesse players vulnerable to strong, physical opponents.

I've shamefully become envious of the physicality the Ravens exhibit along both their fronts.

Since '07 Big Ben vs AFC North opponents, regular season:
vs Stains: 13-2
vs Bungholes: 12-4
vs Rats: 7-4

Big Ben in the post season vs AFC North opponents since '07
vs Rats: 2-1

Know when the Rats have had the most post season success? When the Steelers didn't make it there.

Well, not counting this year.

Well, not counting this year.

They're only in the divisional, let's not hand them the trophy yet.

You guys with all this Ratbird lovin going on are making it tough for me to root for them against the Cheats. They were 8-8 last year and needed help making the playoffs as a 6 this year. They got a bit of luck with Bell going down. I'm not ready yet to label them the baddest, toughest AFC team since Harbaugh's tenure. They have had one nice post season run but also have two post seasons where they got bumped by the Steelers and one where they got bumped by the soft Colts with Manning. Manning would have had them again if not for a DB brain fart at the last minutes. They got one trip to the show, good for them. All the other times the AFC participant in the big show has been Manning, Ben or Brady.

It's funny how last year the Steelers needed help to make it in, didn't get the help, and it was cause for us to burn down everything, start over, fire everyone, blah blah blah.

Our douchebag hated rivals are in the SAME ******* situation this year, but get the help they need, squeak into the playoffs and happen to beat us in the first round, and all the sudden we can't get enough of Ozzy and Harghbitch ****.

Some of you are strange ******* folks, I'll say that much.

Last year, the Steelers were 7-8 and needed three other teams to lose in week 17. This year, the Ravens were 9-6 and needed one other team to lose in week 17.

It wasn't the "SAME *******" situation. Had the Steelers been 9-6 last year, they wouldn't have needed any help at all.

The team that lost this game was the 3-3 team that started the year. The 8-2 team that won the division was not to be seen. Hey at least they got hats.

Yep, bad time for that version of this team to return.

Uh, needing help to get in, check. The only difference was this team GOT the help, and the Steelers last year didn't. But hey, let's just focus on the fact those AMAZING Ravens won one more game than we did last year, must be that totally ******* awesome team they had. Not to mention they were in last year too, cause they are just that ******* good with old Harghbitch and Ozzy, oh, wait, you mean THEY didn't make it last year either? No ****.

They've won three more games so far.

I for one can't wait to see that whiny smarmy **** of a head coach on our sideline throwing his ******* **** arms up at every flag, stomping around like someone just stole his ******* lunch money. Those will be awesome times.

Joe

Yep, never mind, you guys are all correct. So, do we make a run at the Ravens FO this offseason?

Joe

Tombert and this year's first round pick for Harbaugh and Newsome. Would the Ravens take it?

As opposed to "what's going on? Where am I?"?

Newsome signs Elvis Dumervill for relative pennies and trades for Eugene Monroe.

Colbert trades for Levi Brown and gives Jason Worilds 10 million dollars.

That's funny right there, I don't care who ya are.

Last year, the Ravens went into the final week needing just about the same **** the Steelers needed to happen. Steelers won their game, Ravens lost. Both at 8-8 and out of the playoffs. This year, the Ravens won 10 games while the Steelers won 11 and the division. They won the playoff matchup, kudos. Since '12, they've split the season series every year. I still don't see the huge chasm between the two teams. If the Rats go on to the show and win it this year, then I can possibly buy the argument.

I never said that the Ravens were "totally ******* awesome" or "AMAZING." I said that the Ravens needing ONE other team to lose in 2014, after being 9-6, was not "the same ******* situation" as the 2013 Steelers needing THREE other teams to lose, after being 7-8.

Putting yourself in the position of finishing 8-8 and needing three teams to lose is not "just about the same ****" as putting yourself in the position of finishing 10-6 and needing one team to lose. I don't see why this is difficult to understand.

I understood it. But the point I was making was that the Steelers and Rats were in the same position last year (needing to win and needing help to get in) and the Rats were in the same position again this year while the Steelers were not. So while they won the playoff matchup, I still don't see the drastic difference in the direction of the two clubs.

I'm not so sure. The Ravens were 36 yards away from a second AFC Championship game in 3 years, while the Steelers haven't won a single playoff game since 2010, and they remain the only home team to lose in the playoffs so far.

So, what happened to the Rats today? Doesn't look like they are going any farther after today, and watching that ****** ******* team try to lose to the ******* shitstains when they had their "I was just playing corner on the ******* practice squad" qb in then turn around and score that many on the Pats just goes to show, you just never know week to week. Steelers just need to do well enough to get in it again next year, and anything can happen.
